Deep Purple bores me to the point of sleep. (Not really but I really don't see what's so great about them)
yeah same here, i find them amazingly boring- its just drony little guitar riffs |
All i've heard is smoke on the water so I can't judge

Did you just find them in a box or something? Did you know they were there?
Who put them there? Who's are they? |
Oh yea? Well I just got Live Cream Volume I and Blow By Blow!
/ :upset: By the way, the Live Cream album's are great. I've seen some reviews that made me think they were very subpar, but that isn't the case at all. |
Did you just find them in a box or something? Did you know they were there?
Who put them there? Who's are they?
1) 3 boxes 2) I had gone through them before, years ago before I understood their greatness 3/4) My Dad's He takes really bad care of them, I had to dig though piles of dust and random jewel case parts and burnt CDs |
My favourite Cream song is "white room"
|
I'm probably gonna get flamed to death for saying this, but i prefer Dereck and the Dominos over Cream.

Layla rules, bell bottom blues rules :thumb:

/awaits flaming
I'm not going to flame you, but that sounds like a personal problem to me. /joking. Cream>All other Clapton projects for me. |
I'm probably gonna get flamed to death for saying this, but i prefer Dereck and the Dominos over Cream.
/awaits flaming
Well, I'm pretty even with the two of them. Although Layla is probably my favorite album. Besides Layla and Bell Bottom Blues, which clown_phobia mentioned, honorable mentions must go to Have You Ever Loved a Woman?, Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad? (I always promote this song, one of my absolute favorites), Anyday, Thorn Tree in the Garden and... er... Nobody Knows you When you're down and out (for that amazing guitar work). I just love that album. But, most people won't like Derek and the Dominos more because, well, as short-lived as Cream was, it was even more so with Derek and the Dominos. I think everyone here will agree that Duane Allman's death was a tragedy. And a shame too. I put them about even, but I wouldn't begrudge anyone who put them in a close second. They're different though, and hard to compare. From an outside viewpoint, Cream is probably better. I say why fight over it, and just listen to it all anyway. Heh. And my favorite Cream song is probably Tales. |
Meh he's overrated in my opinion. None of his side projects were that good I mean sure a couple of songs I like here and there but nothing that outstanding. His guitar playing isn't as good as you would think either. I don't have a clue why some of the users here give him the title "god" it's outragious.

It is really easy to say someone who is called god is overrated  I would have to agree with RobNY and say my favorite of all Clapmandom is Tales of Brave Ulysses |
Tales of Brave Ulysses>Almost all other songs. Besides, it's just easy and cool to say Clapton is God. It just seems right.
|
Tales of Brave Ulysses>Almost all other songs. Besides, it's just easy and cool to say Clapton is God. It just seems right.
I used to like "Tales of Brave Ulysses" but then I thought about how cheesy the lyrics were and stoped listining to it all together. :-/ |
Clapton is a good guitarist, but I think Gilmour is better...
and if anyone is god it is the beatles! |
I used to like "Tales of Brave Ulysses" but then I thought about how cheesy the lyrics were and stoped listining to it all together. :-/
Those lyrics are on the better side of rock lyrics. For good or for bad. I like the alliteration, personally. I actually like the lyrics, though. Although we probably have divergent ideas of good lyrics. What's your favorite lyrics? (And guys, let's try not to make this a "post your favorite lyrics thread." Just say the name of the song. :)) |
I used to like "Tales of Brave Ulysses" but then I thought about how cheesy the lyrics were and stoped listining to it all together. :-/
If those lyrics are cheesy then it seems a lot of psychedelic lyrics are cheesy. I think they're cool. |
The Gnome - Pink Floyd (Syd Barrett)
I want to tell you a story About a little man If I can. A gnome named Grimble Grumble. And little gnomes stay in their homes. Eating, sleeping, drinking their wine. He wore a scarlet tunic, A blue green hood, It looked quite good. He had a big adventure Amidst the grass Fresh air at last. Wining, dining, biding his time. And then one day - hooray! Another way for gnomes to say Hoooooooooray. Look at the sky, look at the river Isn't it good? Look at the sky, look at the river Isn't it good? Winding, finding places to go. And then one day - hooray! Another way for gnomes to say Hoooooooooray. Hooooooooooooooray. |
Oh yea, that's genious.
I just don't see how Tales of Brave Ulysses can be cheesy but Bike is not. And hey, I never dared to call Bob Dylan's lyrics cheesy. I love his songwriting. |
It's All Right Ma - Bob Dylan
Darkness at the break of noon Shadows even the silver spoon The handmade blade, the child's balloon Eclipses both the sun and moon To understand you know too soon There is no sense in trying. Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn Suicide remarks are torn From the fools gold mouthpiece The hollow horn plays wasted words Proved to warn That he not busy being born Is busy dying. Temptation's page flies out the door You follow, find yourself at war Watch waterfalls of pity roar You feel to moan but unlike before You discover That you'd just be One more person crying. So don't fear if you hear A foreign sound to you ear It's alright, Ma, I'm only sighing. As some warn victory, some downfall Private reasons great or small Can be seen in the eyes of those that call To make all that should be killed to crawl While others say don't hate nothing at all Except hatred. Disillusioned words like bullets bark As human gods aim for their marks Made everything from toy guns that sparks To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark It's easy to see without looking too far That not much Is really sacred. While preachers preach of evil fates Teachers teach that knowledge waits Can lead to hundred-dollar plates Goodness hides behind its gates But even the President of the United States Sometimes must have To stand naked. An' though the rules of the road have been lodged It's only people's games that you got to dodge And it's alright, Ma, I can make it. Advertising signs that con you Into thinking you're the one That can do what's never been done That can win what's never been won Meantime life outside goes on All around you. You loose yourself, you reappear You suddenly find you got nothing to fear Alone you stand without nobody near When a trembling distant voice, unclear Startles your sleeping ears to hear That somebody thinks They really found you. A question in your nerves is lit Yet you know there is no answer fit to satisfy Insure you not to quit To keep it in your mind and not forget That it is not he or she or them or it That you belong to. Although the masters make the rules For the wise men and the fools I got nothing, Ma, to live up to. For them that must obey authority That they do not respect in any degree Who despite their jobs, their destinies Speak jealously of them that are free Cultivate their flowers to be Nothing more than something They invest in. While some on principles baptized To strict party platforms ties Social clubs in drag disguise Outsiders they can freely criticize Tell nothing except who to idolize And then say God Bless him. While one who sings with his tongue on fire Gargles in the rat race choir Bent out of shape from society's pliers Cares not to come up any higher But rather get you down in the hole That he's in. But I mean no harm nor put fault On anyone that lives in a vault But it's alright, Ma, if I can't please him. Old lady judges, watch people in pairs Limited in sex, they dare To push fake morals, insult and stare While money doesn't talk, it swears Obscenity, who really cares Propaganda, all is phony. While them that defend what they cannot see With a killer's pride, security It blows the minds most bitterly For them that think death's honesty Won't fall upon them naturally Life sometimes Must get lonely. My eyes collide head-on with stuffed graveyards False gods, I scuff At pettiness which plays so rough Walk upside-down inside handcuffs Kick my legs to crash it off Say okay, I have had enough What else can you show me ? And if my thought-dreams could been seen They'd probably put my head in a guillotine But it's alright, Ma, it's life, and life only. |
Oh yea, that's genious.
I just don't see how Tales of Brave Ulysses can be cheesy but Bike is not.
Someone is itching for a fight. I think those lyrics tell a story about going shrooming. They're simple yet effective and they relate to me. What does "Bike" have anything to do with "Tales of Brave Ulysses" anyway? |

Well I know you love Syd Barrett, so I'm just comparing two psychedelic songs here. No I'm not itching for a fight, because this isn't a big deal, just a discussion. I just don't see how ToBU is any more cheesy than a Gnome and skies/rivers or a mouse named Gerald, etc. Obviously I'm very biased in favor of Cream, so maybe I'm missing something. |
The Gnome and Bike are playful and funny. ToBU on the other hand is on a more serious tone and talking about absurd stories I read in English.
|
Got robert plants new album for my birthday today. I've only listened to it once (while talking) but it sounded really good.
|
It just seems like a very personal style type thing, and I expected that to be it.
I won't dispute that Dylan is a great songwriter, though. :) |

Absurd stories = classic mythology that has stood a test of 3,000+ years. |

i think clapton is better IMO

Have you ever seen Troy? All of those Greek mythology stories are absurd (stupid actully) I'm sure you've read that one where the king eats all his sons and daughters. Right? |
It just seems like a very personal style type thing, and I expected that to be it.
I won't dispute that Dylan is a great songwriter, though. :)
I don't think anyone will either. That song is lyricly the best song I've ever heard. |

Oh yea, because Troy was perfect document of Greek Mythology. Sure it's easy to say it's absurd now that we know factually that there is no Minotaur or Medusa, and we no longer believe in Zeus and Mt. Olympus (in general people don't) but for 3,000 years ago those stories were an amazing accomplishment. People were attempting to explain things and teach morals, as well as tell entertaining stories. And the stories are still widely enjoyed today, such as the Odyssey, which is where ToBU gets it roots. |

I really have no problem with Greek mythology I agree they are rather enjoyable to read but to put into a rock song is just cheesy. (IMO) |
Fair enough, I can understand that. I'm just saying that calling Greek Mythology absurd is a big of a stretch, even if you don't care for the stories it's hard to deny their impact on litarature in the world as we know it, and the fact that they are still valued today in our society.

How come the Alt&Ind YSI thread owns ours so hard? I just got the Soft Parade Volumes I and II, Presidents of the USA s/t, Bitches Brew, and Madclap laughs in about 20 minutes.
Technically or musically?
I think clapton can play the blues pretty well, but pink floyd are just so much more enjoyable to listen to IMO. Just listen to "comfortably numb" :thumb: |
