Maiden is teh secks.

And it certainly sounds like you had a good time, thick.
 Good story

Maiden, I hate Maiden.
How come you don't like Maiden? The main thing I don't like about most metal, is the vocals (screaming and growling and all that stuff doesn't appeal to me)...and I honestly think Iron Maiden has probably some of the best vocals I've ever heard.

Badmoon 06-04-2005 11:45 AM

The music is so cheesy too me.

"Run to the Hills!! Run for your life!!" (If that's how it goes)

^I hate those lyrics.

Anthrax, there's a Metal band I can respect.

Why do you hate Maiden? I mean unlike alot of Metal bands you can understand the vocals, they don't overdistort their instermentals, and their basslines are more then just the root down on the B sting.
Unless your saying you hate the untire metal genre.

Listen to "The Trooper" for some good Maiden.

lol ya that's how it goes. I don't mind their lyrics, I think they were really the ones who started that whole "mysterious magical forest blah blah blah" type of lyrics that a lot of metal bands have. I actually really like lyrics like that. Stuff about dragons and the like.

I haven't heard a whole lot from Anthrax, I'm not sure whether or not I like them.

What's everyone's favourite Steppenwolf song? Last night they were play a lot of Steppenwolf, and it was awesome. I felt like I was back in the sixties just out for a groovy night on the town. I remember seeing a cop car, and thinking I should act normal...so I unrolled the window and sang "yellow chimpanzee banana" a couple times with an odd melody to it.

I explained my reasons. They just don't appeal to me.

I shouldn't say that I hate them, but I do dislike them.

White_heat 06-04-2005 12:13 PM

black sabbath and deep purple are as heavy as I go, also maiden and some of the prog metal stuff. Though prog metal gets preety boring after a while

Seafroggys 06-04-2005 12:22 PM

Maiden and Sabbath I all really like....my favorite metal though is 80s Metallica....songs like Sanitarium and Fade to Black are killer.

On a more classic rock note, I've rarely heard any Steppenwolfe outside of Born to be Wild and Magic Carpet Ride. However, on Easy Rider, the first song, i think it was called "Pusher", that was kickass, one of the coolest songs I have ever heard.

EDIT: Oh yeah, ^^^ Deep Purple. One of my 5 favorite bands, absolutly killer. I guess they can be considered metal to a degree, but usually when I think metal I think NWOBHM and further (Iron Maiden on).

White_heat 06-04-2005 12:34 PM

yeah deep purple wasnt dark enough to be called "metal" but they sure had a huge influence on the genre

robo2448 06-04-2005 12:56 PM

Lunch sent me a DP Greatest Hits the other day, it's good. I wouldn't consider them heavy metal at all, they kind of sounded like arena rock Who mixed heavier music like Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. I'd say DP is about as heavy as I go, as I can't stand the screaming and growling singing.

Born to Be Wild, Magic Carpet Ride, and The Pusher are great songs. They have tons of good songs though, Hey Lawdy Mama is one of my favourite songs by them. Another great one is Rock Me. I've got two of their albums (Live 1970 and For Ladies Only) They are both really good albums. I'd post some songs but I don't have any of their songs on my computer, they are all on vinyl.

edit- If anyone wants to download a song, I'd suggest Rock Me. You've probably heard it before, but it's still not as well known as their other songs. It's amazing though.

jpj 06-04-2005 01:13 PM

I just picked up MMT and The Doors Live in Europe 1968 at the wonderful place that is Wal-Mart.

Depends on what era you are talking about, thats what they sounded like in their 80s reuninon, and maybe in some of their 70s stuff, but most of their early 70s stuff is preety heavy stuff for the time.

jpj 06-04-2005 01:17 PM

Oh, and Deep Purple kicks ass. I really need to pick one of their albums up.

The Live in Europe DVD is awesome, I just wish it were longer than an hour.

I don't have any idea what I'm talking about, it's a greatest hits so I don't know what year the songs were released. Some songs sounded heavy, and I think 2-3 had some screaming in the background, but a lot of the other stuff wasn't as heavy as I'd expected. It seemed like hard rock rather than metal to me.

You don't have a Wal-Mart? Where the hell do you live?

robo2448 06-04-2005 01:45 PM

I live right outside NYC. We have CVS and A&P instead.

jpj 06-04-2005 01:46 PM
I live right outside NYC. We have CVS and A&P instead.
You live by New York and there's no Wal-Mart...wtf?

robo2448 06-04-2005 01:52 PM

There used to be one in the neighboring town about 5 minutes away, but it was replaced by another A&P. There probably is one somewhere, but I haven't seen any. 95% of the stores in the town where I live are girls clothing stores :upset:.

jpj 06-04-2005 03:02 PM

I don't even know what A&P is.

robo2448 06-04-2005 03:43 PM

grocery store.

PinkFreud 06-04-2005 03:59 PM

i like metal. i hate metallica though. it really depends on what mood im in.

ATM 06-04-2005 03:59 PM

Judas Priest \m/

White_heat 06-04-2005 04:08 PM

yeah judas priest was awsome, untill they got all synthed up in the late 80s

Broken Arrow 06-04-2005 04:33 PM
Judas Priest \m/
Haha, there good too, my dads a big fan. I have a few of there albums on viynl.

My favourite Steppenwolf song is definetly the Pusher. I still remember when I saw them live, what a cool bluesy/pyschedelic time. Awesome show.

Veteran of the psychic wars 06-04-2005 04:56 PM
Eddie Hazel is a genius!

I just got that album, as well.
Heh, I got that album recently too.

I'm digging it.

Veteran of the psychic wars 06-04-2005 05:00 PM
Dude, so what? You have to get up half way through the album, and you can't play them in cars, on computers, or put them on mp3 players. Plus if you don't have a nice system they usually don't sound perfect.
A CD encodes the music in a digital format. An LP has the music encoded in an analog manner. Our ears percieve analog in a much more more responsive way to digital. To the educated ear (sorry, I don't mean to sound snobbish or anything, that's just the best phrase I could think of), the difference is very noticeable. For example, my vinyl copy of Made In Japan (picked up for about £7) sounds far better than my cd version.

Yeah they do but I don't have any of their albums either :upset: I was at Wal-Mart today to buy an album but I didn't see any Deep Purple stuff there. I was really suprised. But it's ok because there is a CD store not far from my house.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-04-2005 05:42 PM

Deep Purple bores me to the point of sleep. (Not really but I really don't see what's so great about them)

So what does everyone think of Smile by Brian Wilson?

Albums obtained as of late:

Brian Wilson - Smile
Jefferson Airplane - Crown of Creation
Jefferson Airplane - Surrastic Pillow
Grateful Dead - Live/Dead
Grateful Dead - Skull & Roses

Yeah I'm not a huge Deep Purple fan either, I don't hate them or anything, I just have like a hundred other bands I'd rather listen to.

I've never heard Smile, but I've heard nothing but good things about it.

BludgeonySteve 06-04-2005 06:14 PM

I have Smile. Good stuff, I haven't listened to much yet though.

I dont own it, but i heard some songs. The songs sounded very catchy and infectous.

It's pretty good. Most like it more than me though; I know Med does.

How does it compare to his stuff with The Beach Boys.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-04-2005 07:04 PM

It's WAY better IMO.

robo2448 06-04-2005 07:28 PM

Well, I think I'll get it then. The Beach Boys are good summer tunes but get really old after a while and is a little too California poppy to me. I've heard it's kind of psychadelic, is that true?

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-04-2005 07:56 PM

I would consider it to be psychedelic so yes.
