I just got two Midlake albums off a mate and I have to say Van Occupanther is one of the greatest albums I've heard in a very long time...is anyone else here a fan?
Somewhat...songs like Young Bride and Roscoe are really awesome, but there're a few duds as well.

horseypie 02-06-2008 03:24 AM

Bandits and Van Occupanther are my favourite songs at the moment...Roscoe was the first song of theirs i heard which got me into them

Zmev 02-06-2008 03:29 AM

Head Home is the only song I like by them.

Interstate 02-06-2008 04:56 AM

Funeral Diner - The Underdark
Kano - London Town - I think this is one of my favourites of 2007

samariah 02-06-2008 09:29 AM

Lilys- Everything Wrong is Imaginary

YourBiggestFan 02-06-2008 09:35 AM

holy crap.

Anybody see les savy fav on Conan a few nights ago? I just got around to watching it on my tivo.

freaking incredible. I really wanna go to one of their shows now.

Interstate 02-06-2008 01:44 PM

So far today:

Justice - Cross - I dunno how to do that stupid cross symbol on my keyboard.
Kraftwerk - Autoban
Jamiroquai - High Times
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica - I have tried listening to this many times and have always up till now, turned it off after about 4 songs but this has just clicked with me.

perriwinkle 02-06-2008 02:04 PM

hasnt clicked with me yet tbh

Iai 02-06-2008 02:15 PM

I listened to Trout Mask today too actually. That and Red Roses For Me by The Pogues, which is way overlooked.

Anxious 02-06-2008 02:34 PM

Trout Mask is a litmus test to see if you're smart enough to have good taste.

Neoteric 02-06-2008 02:42 PM

I like Trout Mask Replica, am I cool yet?

ATM 02-06-2008 02:42 PM

Safe as Milk and Bluejeans and Moonbeams rule as well.

Anxious 02-06-2008 02:47 PM
I like Trout Mask Replica, am I cool yet?
It means you're adequate.

Lick My Decal's Off Baby! is also supremely good.

Neoteric 02-06-2008 02:49 PM

I like Ice Cream For Crow but only really cause I find Beefheart's band really interesting.

Bordello 02-06-2008 02:51 PM

cbmartinez 02-06-2008 03:01 PM

is the old time relijun good? I downloaded a song off of pitchfork's top 100 of 07 and it was pretty sweet, what album should I get

Anxious 02-06-2008 03:22 PM

Probably Lost Light

Bukowski 02-06-2008 03:29 PM

Landing - Passages Through
nice music.

Beefheart is the man. Him and le band made 4 outstanding albums. That said, I am not too keen on Safe As Milk. I need to listen to that one again because it's probably just not clicked for whatever reason.

Bordello 02-06-2008 03:33 PM

the first time i listened to Trout Mask Replica i hated it. everytime after that has been <3

now i can put it on and its like the most casual thing
its fun

Bukowski 02-06-2008 03:36 PM

I hated all my favourite records at first. I even hated Daydream Nation at first

YDload 02-06-2008 04:00 PM

okay, to the people who wanted me to check out Didjits: what do they sound like?? they only have one track on last.fm and its a cover of Police Truck. this tells me nothing!

also the band has brothers named Sims are they related to David?

samariah 02-06-2008 04:07 PM

Slowdive - Souvlaki

Neoteric 02-06-2008 04:10 PM
okay, to the people who wanted me to check out Didjits: what do they sound like?? they only have one track on last.fm and its a cover of Police Truck. this tells me nothing!

Bukowski 02-06-2008 04:16 PM

just go to their myspace

The Offspring covered "Killboy Powerhead". That and Evel Knievel are my favourites on the myspace, but they're just a fun punk rock band that were on Touch and Go records. Rey Washam from Scratch Acid and Rapeman and the Big Boys and Ministry and probably loads of other great bands was was in the Didjits.

Anxious 02-06-2008 04:22 PM

Midnight Movies- Lion the Girl

I've seen these guys live twice but hardly listened to them on record.

They're much better live, really psychedelic. Plus the singer is hawt and they used to open for Bardo Pond.

Interstate 02-06-2008 04:25 PM

Ghostface Killah - Fishscale - Good, but not as good as Ironman or Supreme Clientele. Still I haven't heard his new release yet.

Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through The Grapevine
Marvin Gaye - What's Going On? - I can't decide which is better out of the two, I think What's Going On just edges it though.

Jawaharal 02-06-2008 05:36 PM

Gospel - The Moon Is A Dead World
this band disbanded way to early

Burial - Untrue
probs the most overrated album of 07.

asdf 02-06-2008 06:11 PM
I listened to Trout Mask today too actually. That and Red Roses For Me by The Pogues, which is way overlooked.
I should really get Red Roses for Me since I'm probably going to see the pogues soon. I'm really familiar with Run, Sodomy and The Lash but beyond that I don't know them all that well.

seamantis 02-06-2008 06:51 PM

Ive been listening to Queen- Queen II (not the greatest hits). This record suprises me. Queens best and most interesting. Theyre at the heaviest here and its great.

Give it a shot. I know its queen but since i bought this record when i was a kid it amazes me a bit more every listen.

Jawaharal 02-06-2008 06:58 PM

I don't see how anyone could not like Don't Stop Me Now.

negrodamus 02-06-2008 07:47 PM

Times New Viking - Rip It Off

It's like GVB with female vocals. Pretty good.

perriwinkle 02-06-2008 07:47 PM

my favorite queen songs are dragon attack and killer queen

dragon attack is from the game.. its usually one that people havent heard so you definitely gotta check it out if you havent, its so funky and it has a great drum solo

but i havent heard any of the songs in Queen II , just checked the AMG listing. maybe i should check it out
