Could I get a suggestion as to what I should check out. I really dig bands like Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., dEUS, Broken Social Scene, among others, and I need help finding some artists.

Can someone give me a suggestion?

The Great Decay 04-14-2006 10:14 PM

If you like Pavement I recommend Silver Jews.

pixiesfanyo 04-14-2006 10:25 PM

Get.. the Tapes 'n Tapes release. It was pretty good after my first listen.

Try Sunset Rubdown.
They're new one Shut Up I Am Dreaming is good. Their self titled EP is more lo-fi/psychedelic. And I haven't heard the other one.

In this thread about different metal genres on another forum, I randomly posted this:

My favourite is pre-1800s post-blackened nu-troll war metal, but only the kind from the Northern coast of Fiji, from the obscure label 'Mongolian Wench Records', between the months of August and October, on 7". It just gives it that authentic sound. But their studio albums suck, I only like the b-sides.

But the b-sides can't be as good as this group of psych-folk-electrocore bands from Tonga. I have this one bands discography on vinyl, you can't hear a word the vocalist is saying since he's singing through a concrete megaphone behind six panes of glass. It's the most indie thing since The Bravery.

Alright, I gotta tell you guys about the show I went to last night:

My sister's bf was asked to tour with one of his buddy's bands, La Otracina, and he gladly accepted (even tho he has no money).

Well, I picked my sister up in DC (she just moved here from Boston), and we made our way to the show. It was at this little tiny apartment and all these people were sitting on the front steps when we showed up.

We made our way inside and it was a real freak show haha The bands were playing in this small living room area. It was definantly a hipster crowd. When La Otracina finally went on, they spent like 15 mins trying to get everything to work.

But then when they played, they destroyed that place. Matt (sisters bf), basically considers himself a noise guitarist, so I didnt really know what to expect. But once he started playing, everyone started crowding around the living room because it was extremely loud and extremely good. He was even playing with a screw driver at one point.

Anyway, all and all, a good night.

And I wrote too much.

Zappa 04-15-2006 10:41 AM

Last night I saw some bands, and this awful opening band played for like an hour and a half, because they had no clue. Then when the local band I came to see took the stage, only about 10 of us remained, because so many were driven away by the terrible band that preceded them.

Your avatars are extremely similar when viewed only with a quick glance. I smell a conspiracy.

I watched Run Lola Run and Full Metal Jacket last night with some guys a few years older than me. It was good.

Happy Easter everyone

The Great Decay 04-15-2006 09:57 PM

I just returned from the movies after watching Thank You For Smoking. Decent film, it definitely has it's moments.

Luxor 04-15-2006 11:31 PM

Happy Easter & all that stuff people say to each other.

Apparently I'm gonna have to review Run Lola Run for school soon. But I've been wanting to see it for quite a long time (since I saw that one Simpsons episode that is modeled after it, even has the same music in parts), so it's okay.

The Great Decay 04-16-2006 10:26 AM

Happpy Easter everyone.

Also, what does it mean if an album is "tagged"?

Glitterati 04-16-2006 11:26 AM

Happy Easter everyone.

Yesterday I had my whole family over for dinner. There's a ledge in my house by the stairs that overlooks our living room, and me and my two year old niece would run up there, and I would lift her up and she would throw a baloon over the side. Then we would run back down and do it again. She never got tired, but I was sweating like crazy and out of breath. Good excercise (i cant spell that word).

ATM 04-16-2006 11:28 AM

We are going out for Indian food today. My family is so underground.

Robert Crumb 04-16-2006 12:09 PM

I don't think Jesus would approve of that. Then again, who can say no to curry? Certainly not Jesus, that's for sure. Remember that time all the children/blind people/lepers were starving and Jesus turned to his Indian disciple Pardeep and said, "Yo nig, make these suckas some chicken tikki masala and those tortilla things 'fore I deport your ass," and everyone ate well and got mild indigestion?

Good times.

The Great Decay 04-16-2006 12:10 PM

Jesus was part Indian himself.

Robert Crumb 04-16-2006 12:17 PM

Jesus was part christian himself.

pixiesfanyo 04-16-2006 12:22 PM

Little Known Fact: Jesus was acutally the first human to ever grow a beard.

BillCosby 04-16-2006 12:26 PM

happy rebirthday jesus

br3ad_man 04-16-2006 05:25 PM

Finally saw V For Vendetta last night. It was sweet.
