Im sticking my neck out here due to not hearing it, but im seeing all those who didnt like Lateralus are the ones complaining about the single the most. Thankfully everyone here loves it, and thats the important opinions i'll listen to.

Toolshed is the biggest conglomerate of idiots I've ever seen outside of [URL="www.stormfront.org/"]Stormfront[/URL], so I really don't care how they feel about anything, much less the new single.

I've never posted at Toolshed and only lurked there a few times. I prefer this thread, it's got more of a community feel and less idiots.

I'm kind of disappointed with Vicarious. It's kind of predictable. It seems too familiar, like it's just another Tool song, which is great, but... I don't know, I think I was expecting too much. Maybe I haven't listened to it enough and it'll grow on me.... maybe.

I went in a chat room at Toolband once, all I remember is something about pedophiles. It was a pretty stupid chat.

So I just downloaded that .wav version of Vicarious and burned it to a CD-R to play in my stereo system. It sounds so f'ucking awesome. Maynard's vocals don't sound so much in the background, they are much louder.

Don't worry man, that video isn't the Vicarious one. It's a Chet Zar animation used on the Lateralus tour that's been looped. Someone's put the song on top, and claimed it's the real thing.

What were you expecting? It is another Tool song.

Like I said, it didn't kick me in the teeth. It's not as intricate as Opeth, or as frantic as the Mars Volta, or as cold as Dark Tranquility, or, etc. etc.

It's Tool, and it's the single, and it made me feel good listening to it while taking my dog for a walk around some fields. I still don't think OMG THATS AMAZING, but it is what i've been waiting for, and I'm really glad I have it, and I still want to listen to it. It's a good song, good atmosphere, good message, headbangable, what else do you want?

People with expectations like they'll feel like when they first got into Tool will probably be disappointed.

Its better to not have any expectations and just let the song be what it is, but that can be a little difficult.

What was I expecting? Progression. Like from Undertow to Aenima, or Aenima to Lateralus, I need that progression, but I don't hear it with this song. It wasn't a step up, they just kind of stayed where they were. And yeah, it's the single, and I really shouldn't base how I'm going to feel about the album as a whole on this one song, but, well, I can't help it. Eh, whatever, we'll see. It has been better the last couple of listens, but it still kind of bothers me. I dig the vocals though, and Danny still kicks my ***.

And yeah, I expected that feeling. *shrug*

I feel the same way. It might not be an amazing song, but it fills that void I expected it too. I feel good listening to it.

Chongi, as far as progression goes, I don't think you should try to think about it much right now. You can only begin to judge the progression once you hear the album in its entirety.

After checking it out, I completely agree with you.

So i've listened to it like um 4 times?

And deleted it off my comp, slightly by accident but then i could have redloaded it but chose not to.

I found myself humming it earlier, its pretty catchy. I'm not gonna listen to it again till i hear the whole album o_O

And i can see why people at TDN are moaning, the vocals are strange and it does sound like they have used parts of other songs. But still those bastards are being picky, this track is fresh and is only the single...which means better stuff is still to come :D

Because Tool is completey different experience :p . Some people just want to wait and hear the entire album as a whole and take it all in at once, I guess. I tried really [I]really [/I]hard to wait but failed miserably...I cracked last night at like 3:00am! Hehe.

Yeah, no kidding...Some of those people are so anal about everything and hardly any thread ever gets anywhere without it going to sh!t. I've been a long time lurker of that site only because they seem to be on top of things though...there's always new information surfacing over at those boards (though half of the time it's all bs).

I just heard this song. I gotta say I'm not impressed by it at all. It's listenable, and not too shabby, but the drums aren't nothing like previously, ie. lateralus, aenima, eulogy, etc... Guitars are way too high, and guitars were never the greatest part of tool. Bass and drums were. :( Maynard's vocals are different, not bad though. But just like how I enjoyed Metallica's St. Anger, I'll probably enjoy this album too, although I'm still hoping other songs will be better than this one.

Not bad though, hoping for better. :)

If this new Tool album puts them back on a pedistal, then so be it.
