Yo Crumb, reccomend me some Beat Happening?
I like to recommend You Turn Me On because it has decent production and a couple of my favorite Beat Happening songs ("Bury the Hammer" and "Teenage Caveman," a fine paean to hormonal cavemen) but all their albums have great stuff if you don't mind lo-fi. First four songs off the s/t also make it worth checking out, whole thing is probably more evocative of their catalogue, too. So maybe one of those two. Folks might disagree.
I have Dreamy, and it's pretty good, but not mind blowing. 'Hot Choclate Boy' is a great song though. I need to check out some of their other stuff too. |
I have the first two Beat Happening records, cool stuff. Maybe I'll get the other album you recommended.

The Mountain Goats - We Shall All Be Healed

Just went to the library book sale and for 3.15 I got:
Celtic Frost - Into the Pandemonium Charlatans UK - Some Friendly Styx - Paradise Theatere (lol) Portishead - s/t Sidewinders - Witch Doctor The Jesus and Mary Chain - Barbed Wire Kisses Coil - The Snow EP Breakdancin' - Learn How... (this is the greatest thing ever) Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand The Kinks - Preservation Act 2 Sonic Youth - Dirty Freestyle Fellowship - To Whom It May Concern |
waste of $3.15

Toots and Maytals - Funky Kingston
Hands down the best reggae album that I've ever heard. I don't know why I didn't check this one out sooner. Frank Zappa - Over-Nite Sensation This is a solid release but in the ends it's a mixed bag. There are some cool solo's and humorous lyrics but it's kind of boring. "Montana" is awesome. |
Toots is amazing live.

I like some of his stuff but htis album is pretty boring. Best part is when he whistles. He's a good whistler.
|
hes a terrible whistler.
|
I missed an Andrew Bird concert last week because I was in missoula. Montana, I dig your city. It's nice.

Hot Snakes - Suicide Invoice
The Nation of Ulysses - Plays Pretty for Baby It's been way too long since I listened to Hot Snakes. They rule too much. And now I can see why Happymeal gets wet over Nation of Ulysses. It's some awesome shit. |
