Heh, it's James Hetfield's 42nd birthday today (3rd August).
Happy B-day James! And about Sanitarium, it's interesting but I don't like those unless it really sounds like a rip off. Eventually riffs will be re-used and will sound the same after awhile The night of 1,000 we did about 8 pages. I left town for a week and we've done 4 pages since? Where is everyone? |
I was there when that happened it was about thirty minutes
it was about six people doing it Happy Birthday old man!!! you are my ****lin Hero since the day |
Cool, happy birthday to James.
Can one of you guitar experts tell me what/how to do a pinch harmonic? |
in Cliff'em All during that scene where the camerman (cliff? i dont know) , when he tells the band not to move while he gets more beer and they like dont move.
yeah i was wondering what song is playing during that part? |
Cool, happy birthday to James.
Cool, happy birthday to James.
Can one of you guitar experts tell me what/how to do a pinch harmonic?
Hey man, HELL YEAH NO ONE BEATS METALLICA, alright dude pinch harmonics aren't that hard, they just take a little practicing to get perfect, what u do is u just hit a note generally on either the G, B, or E strings those are the easiest to do it on, so try like the 9th fret on G or the 17th fret on B, those are pretty easy to hit, but its different on every guitar, so first dude turn that gain UPPPPP allll the way that makes it easier to get a good harmonic, so what your doing is u pluck the string and then very quickly touch your thumb just barely on the string to get a harmonic, and then to make it sound better do a vibrato after u pluck the string, ...but u cant just touch anywhere try hitting a note and just barely touching the same string with your finger above the pickups, try it on/between/and in the middle of the pickups, a few of these places will give u a harmonic, so practice all different places, and then u need to pluck the string and touch your thumb barely over that little spot that gives u the harmonic, if u have any other questions or need more details just go to google.com, and search pinch harmonics, u will get a good description from that, but ik its always hard to read something and do it, so if this is in anyway confusing just go to the nearist music store to you, and looking for some dude shredding on guitar, and usually their nice enough to show u a few tricks, its alwayyyyysss easier to be taught by another person instead of a computer. GOOD LUCK DUDE!! |

Can one of you guitar experts tell me what/how to do a pinch harmonic?
I'm no expert...but A good vibrato is always key, as is technique. Make sure you have plenty of gain. What I like to do is imagine that I'm "scooping" into a PH. I make a U shaped movement with my hand. The 6th fret on the G string is a hot one for me. |
the 7-9th frets on my d and g strings are good hotspots for ph's. It's different for all guitars, though.

btw, it was posted awhile ago that kirk did ALL the solos on KEA. if that's so, why don't they play the first horsemen solo?
There could be many reasons, it's played on 2 guitars for a start, it's pretty fast and that whole section just adds on to the song to make it drag on a bit. James shares his birthday with one of my mates :) |

Mustaine wrote 4 horsemen didnt he? |
Mustaine wrote 4 horsemen didnt he?
Not really. He wrote Mechanix, which James and Lars wrote The Four Horsemen with, if you get what I meant. They're very similar songs, but slightly different, The Four Horsemen, for instance is quit a bit longer, slower, and alot more melodic. |
They changed Dave's lyrics too. His were a bit lame if you ask me. I'm glad his songwriting grew up for Peace Sells though.
Metallica's lyrics for it kick áss though. |
Did you guys see Metallica are supporting the Rolling Stones on a couple of dates :amaze:

I think what let that song down alot was the poor recording/production, and his vocals, if he had have done some Looking Down The Cross style vocals, I think it would have been great. |
Well Megadeth and Metallica seem to have taken a similar path, the sound change on Symonphy(sp) of Destructon is somwhat like the Black Album, left fans a tad confussed about the less speed/trash sound, and Megadeths new stuff is goning down that path of a St. Anger album.

Unfortunately yes. |
I don't know i loved TSHF.
|
TSHF is rather different from St. Anger. It's much more of a classic metal album, like TWNAH, with touches of their earlier material. It's also very well produced and less repetitive.
|
Yes, Megadeth's St. Anger album would be Risk. So if Metallica is doing what Megadeth did, their next album will be awesome.
|
I think Crytpic Writings/Risk mirror Load/ReLoad because it was a change from the established metal sound for both 'Deth and 'Tallica.
|
Ahh very true..
Well, I would say Cryptic Writings is their Black Album, there are of course some exceptions to this (Metallica's Through The Never, Megadeth's High Speed Dirt), but both albums are a change from the band's normal, and just striaight into Heavy Metal.. I dunno, I haven't thought much about this... :p |
The groupings of the albums are very Similar
Group 1: Kill Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets - Killing Is My Business, Rust In Peace, Peace Sells Group 2; The Black Alcum - Countdown to extinction Group 3: - Load, ReLoad - Crytpic Writings, Risk After that my theory kinda dies As you can see, I've probably thought about this toomuch :p |
Hey if you guys like Metallica you should check out this forum. We need members!
