hey guys, in about 6-7 months i am seeing the Stones live... Can you recommend me their essential albums since I only know some songs... thanx
Get Exile On Main Street and for earlier days get Aftermath, you could also go with Let it Bleed, Between the Buttons or Sticky Fingers, or if your more psychedelic Their Satanic Majesties Request is good. For certains songs on each album for Their Satanic Majesties Request I recommend: She's A Rainbow, Cithadel, 2000 Light Years From Home. For the album Sticky Fingers I recommend: Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Sway, Brown Sugar, Wild Horses. For Between the Buttons I recommend: Let's Spend The Night Together, Ruby Tuesday. For Let it Bleed I recommend: Gimmie Shelter, Country Honk, Midnight Rambler, Let It Bleed, Monkey Man, You Got the Silver, You Can't Always Get What You Want. For Aftermath I recommend: Paint It Black, Stupid Girl, Lady Jane, Under My Thumb. And for Exile On Main Street I recommend: Rocks Off, Shake Your Hips, Tumbling Dice, Sweet Virginia, Torn and Frayed, Happy, Ventilator Blues, All Down The Line, Shine A Light. But I recommend any thing pre-78 Stones. You lucky dog... I will probably never have a chance to see them live :upset: |
Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (people say this is the best 2nd wave BM album ever written, I disagree)

Check out these albums.
You won't regret it, I promise (unless you don't have an open mind)
Well that's not really fair to say. Having an open mind is not synonymous with liking everything you hear uncritically. I'm pretty sure I have an open mind, but there are definitely albums I don't like. |
True, I would consider myself reasonably open to music, but if I had a copy of Fungus Amongus by Incubus I would hit it with a hammer until it smashed.
|
I listen to pretty much nothing ,( Metallica, slipknot,SoaD,Extol)

I mean for the last months I keep listening to Nevermore, Opeth and Biomechanical. I am going to suggest checking out: 1) Wastefall, a Greek prog metal band which has all the good Nevermore and Biomechanical elements as well as some Pain of Salvation one's (go to www.wastefall.com and download their stuff). 2) Communic, a Norwegian prog-power band which is really similar to nevermore. Their first album got very good to awesome reviews in every European magazine. Have fun.. |
Agalloch
Adorned Brood Atheist Death Emperor Fantomas Finntroll In Flames Meshuggah Opeth
Best list ever. Threadstarter, these are all you need. |
Personally, I would stay away from about half of the bands mentioned here. Some of it is really good though, so you can decide what you like for yourself.
You'll probably like stuff like In Flames, Opeth, and Dark Tranquillity a lot. |
SlipKnoT
Ill Niño Stone Sour Probot Shadows Fall MurderDolls |
SlipKnoT
Ill Niño Stone Sour Probot Shadows Fall MurderDolls
= perfect example of what NOT to listen to. top of the heap are Opeth and in flames (old in flames that is, pre colony |
= perfect example of what NOT to listen to.
top of the heap are Opeth and in flames (old in flames that is, pre colony
Just because you don't like them doesn't mean he won't. He said SOAD, so I gave him some sort of similar stuff. I like pretty much every band stated in this thread, but theres nothing much similar to SOAD. Just helping the guy so stop being a dick and respect what people other than yourself listen to. |
Lamb Of God
Shadows Fall Arch Enemy Kataklysm Mudvayne (best nu-metal band IMO) Cradle Of Filth Children Of Bodom |
Well that's not really fair to say. Having an open mind is not synonymous with liking everything you hear uncritically. I'm pretty sure I have an open mind, but there are definitely albums I don't like.
Yeah, I actually thought about that when I posted it. But MX was acting up at the time, so I couldn't edit my post. |
Iron Maiden
Iced Earth Dragonforce Megadeth |
BTBAM
Misery Index Suffocation Norther |
Ok im stuck and its pissing me off for some reason I only seem to like 4 bands that I listen to frequently but I want more.
I want more bands like these, Nevermore Children Of Bodom Biomechanical Angra And please not Death/Black/Doom cause I really dont like those.
About the last line; why? ______________________________________________________________ Blind Guardian-Nightfall at Middle-Earth [it's the only album I have by them, but it's good] Dragonforce-Sonic Firestorm [if you like "crazy solos", then they certainly have them] Heathen perhaps? You can download two full albums from them for free from their website. http://www.heathenmetal.com/index2.html Into Eternity-Buried in Oblivion [I listened to Biochemical at their website and I think maybe you will like Into Eternity] You can download a few songs at their website. http://www.intoeternity.net/disc.php maybe Kiuas[I'm not real familar with, but they use keyboards doing something other than chords all the time] http://www.kiuas.net/ "Kalmah and Norther" is the general response to "bands like COB" |
Can somebody recommend me some Mercyful Fate and King Diamond?
|
How obscure? Do you know Arghoslent?

I want want some bands other people dont know about. No I have never heard of them. Are they good?
Yes, they're good. Exellent Melodic Death. one of the few I like |
Can somebody recommend me some Mercyful Fate and King Diamond?
If you want albums for King Diamond go for The Puppet Master (Not Master Of Puppets:p ), Spiders Lullabye or Abigail...all of them are amazing. For some great songs by King Diamond: A Mansion In Drakness The Candle No Presents For Christmas The Loa House Abigail Halloween At the Graves Omens Funeral I don't know much about Mercyful Fate so i can't talk about them. |
