The Netherlands, today and tomorrow, and I'm not going dammit
ticket isn't the problem, transport is, and I'm not going to Rotterdam and than having to miss half the show, because I have to catch my last train.

are you from the Netherlands  ?

Enlighten Me 10-10-2005 06:37 AM

Dude, I would see the whole show and walk home.

nowitzki 10-10-2005 07:23 AM

Hey, if you want to see the show that much you can always wait in the train station until morning, I've done it in the past.

the2stranger 10-10-2005 08:14 AM

I've done so in the past too, well it wasn't planned, but I ended up sleeping between homless people and heroin whores
yuck!
and walking home isn't an option, since the whow is a 3 hours drive from me

I will wait for next year, I went to Arcturus yesterday, and next week, Vader, Anorexia Nervosa and Rotting Christ.

I have a busy schedule :p

Yup, but why too Rotterdam, it's in Amsterdam ;) Well I'm lucky I live near Haarlem ;)

the2stranger 10-10-2005 09:06 AM
Yup, but why too Rotterdam, it's in Amsterdam ;) Well I'm lucky I live near Haarlem ;)
ohh, yeah, it's in the Heiniken Music Hall not?
I was confusing it with the Ahoy (which is in Rotterdam not?)

I'm from the southern part of Limburg, so for me it's a huge trip :(
are you going?
if so, enjoy, and post a report after the show

scenesfromatheater 10-10-2005 10:01 AM

yay, hopefully I'm going to all three England dates....and I'm loving it

Darkness 10-10-2005 10:23 AM
The only time you woudl ever, evvvvveeerrrrr hear SDV live is if they reunited with KevMo, and well that is highly unlikely.
Yeah I know.. I think they should, Jordans an awesome player, but man... those huge wank solos where he tries to be like Petrucci are just plain stupid. Kevin had so much more class... :(

GenuineImitation 10-10-2005 10:27 AM

Why did Kevin leave Dream Theater?

nowitzki 10-10-2005 11:11 AM
Why did Kevin leave Dream Theater?
The usual, musical differences

Darkness 10-10-2005 11:14 AM

Yeah, Kevin wanted to make amazing songs (Space Dye-Vest) and Portnoy wanted to make Honor Thy Father. :(

GenuineImitation 10-10-2005 11:15 AM

So he got kicked out, or decided to leave on his own?

kidthatplaysguitar91 10-10-2005 11:18 AM

I think they sound terrible.

red barchetta 10-10-2005 01:10 PM

kevin moore's solos on Take the Time > any solo by Ruddess

Darkness 10-10-2005 01:10 PM
kevin moore's solos on Take the Time > any solo by Ruddess
Agreed.

the2stranger 10-10-2005 01:34 PM

Ruddess is an awesome keyboardist, but I just like Moore's style more
Moore more  pun Intended.

the solo on Stream OF Conciousness and Dissapear rock though.
besides that I like Moore more

temporary 10-10-2005 01:43 PM
kevin moore's solos on Take the Time > any solo by Ruddess
Nah, Dance of Eternity > Most any Moore solo. Take the Time and Learning to Live to have some insane keyboards, though.
Yeah, Kevin wanted to make amazing songs (Space Dye-Vest) and Portnoy wanted to make Honor Thy Father. :(
Honor Thy Father is an awsome song

Darkness 10-10-2005 02:37 PM

I don't really like it that much...

nowitzki 10-10-2005 02:40 PM

Rudess is an incredible keyboardist and he probably was a big part of saving the band after the Sherinian era, some of his work on SFAM is incredible, how can you not love the solos in Beyond This Life.

If you like the direction of Kevin Moore that much more than what Mike and the others wanted to do then why aren't you ranting on about his solo albums (Chroma Key)?

KM was Great but I think in the long run it was best he left, it allowed the band to progress and I despite what some of you think I still think DT are an amazing band capable of creating fantastic music.

Darkness 10-10-2005 02:46 PM

Rudess is very good, yes. But I just hate when he wanks for no reason. At least Petruccis wank sounds good even if his is sometimes ponitless to (IMO)...

Triangle 10-10-2005 03:00 PM

I found this pretty amusing. http://jlbscream.ytmnd.com/

nowitzki 10-10-2005 03:06 PM

That's one impressive falsetto.

The_Riddler 10-10-2005 03:45 PM

I just bought Dream Theaters album "Awake". I have only listened to about half of it, I like what I heard but for some reason to me it doesn't compare to Octavarium. I loved every song on Octavarium because they all sounded so different from another, but yeah.

It's a good album, but maybe I just need to listen to it more.

GenuineImitation 10-10-2005 03:46 PM

Was Octavarium your first DT album?

I'm telling you now, that yes. You have to listen to Awake a lot more. On first listen, I thought it was average and thought Train of Thought blew it away.

How wrong I was...

I second that staement.

classicrockman 10-10-2005 03:58 PM

I like "Erotomania." It's a good Dream Theater instrumental that isn't 15+ minutes long. :thumb:
Was Octavarium your first DT album?
Yeah, I bought it after hearing a few songs on the internet and it pretty much blew me away on what I was missing for not listening to them.

nowitzki 10-10-2005 04:03 PM
I like "Erotomania." It's a good Dream Theater instrumental that isn't 15+ minutes long. :thumb:
I'd prefer to listen to one great 15 minute song than 3 average 5 minute songs, so I don't see why song length bothers people. (Oh and DT don't actually have any instrumentals 15 minutes long :thumb: )

Darkness 10-10-2005 04:05 PM

Same, length doesn't bother me at all. I think the longest instrumental is SOC.

scenesfromatheater 10-10-2005 04:17 PM

but we all know that the daddy of all intrumentals.....is the almighty Instumedley

classicrockman 10-10-2005 04:20 PM

Song length only bothers me a little. If it's well thought out, and deserves it's fifteen minute length...then I like it.

PS: I'm I the only one who actually likes 'Octavarium?' It's my favorite DT album...but no one seems to like it.

scenesfromatheater 10-10-2005 04:21 PM

so have you heard all of DT's albums then?

classicrockman 10-10-2005 04:23 PM
so have you heard all of DT's albums then?
I have:

Images & Words
A Change of Seasons
6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Falling Into Infinity
Awake
Live Scenes From New York
and
Ocatavarium.

scenesfromatheater 10-10-2005 04:27 PM

youve heard I&W, 6DOIT and ACOS, and you still think 8V is the best??? hmmm.....i dont see how

nowitzki 10-10-2005 04:28 PM

Octavarium is good, not up there with the best, but has some great moments.
