So my old guitarist who i am always ranting about says he's straight edge now.

1. He'll never get involved in any scene with sxe kids.

2. He's 15...6 more years before he can even be let into a place where he can legally drink.

3. He doesnt know anyone else thats sxe, so basically he can drink all he wants to and nobody can keep him in check.

4. He doesnt have a tatoo or anything showing it. When he gets one, i can imagine him in a bar when he's about 23 getting drunk and making up some BS story about what the 3 x's on his arm mean.

This goes for all people that are my age calling themselves sxe. I think its a silly label. I wont drink for the rest of my life, or do drugs and have stupid sex, but i dont need a label to tell people that, i just wont do it.

I am straight edge, and I see no problem with it as long as the person is involved with the hardcore scene, and truly believes in it, no matter what age they are.

I understand your argument about not needing the label, but for some it offers a sense of unity. It acts as a reinforcement, especially if they are pre-disposed to drug/alcohol use, or are involved with others who use drugs.

Yeah, he doesnt have any older brother or sister, or actually, any friends that drink. I think he's doing it just so people that know anything about can say 'whoah, he's baddddd'. He's not involved with any scene. He said he's not going to shove it in anyones face that he's sxe, but then theres was no reason for him to say he is in the first place.
