It's not good. Up the cuts is a decent song until the chorus comes, and Americans Abroad isn't so bad. Piss and Vinegar is okay and that's about the only songs that don't completely suck.

If you know anyone who sells dirty coke tell them to sell it to Tom so he goes into a f'ucking coma for a bit and maybe when he comes out he will write a better ****ing album. |
I said I wouldn't download it before it actually came out, but what the hell.
|
This album has no punch to it.

That's a good way of putting it. The music isn't bad, and it's a pretty ok album. It's just not at all aggressive like earlier releases, and not as fun to listen to. Against Me! aren't going to write another Reinventing Axl Rose. |
Yeah you know this album sucks because it has poppy choruses and they never did that before even in songs like "We Laugh at Danger" or "Pints of Guiness" or "Cliche Guevara" or hell even "What We Worked For"
God you all ****ing suck. |
Just because it has poppy choruses, and some of their previous releases had poppy choruses doesn't make the new songs good.
|
I think if you come into this thread defending Against Me you're missing the point.
|
Not necessarily. It's for discussion of the band, which is potentially praise/defense, but lately has been more attacking and criticizing.
|
Kids all over internet land are critiquing this record.
|
what else is new?
|
kids all over the internet are critiquing EVERYthing. duh.
|
How is it compared to SFAFC?
I know I could just download it myself and see but I kind of promised myself that I would buy every Against Me! realease. |
Against Me! was a fad.

In SHARP contrast, the new Meat Puppets album is really ****ing good. Lets see, they've been making killer records since the 80's in a similar vein as Against Me, but are way more creative and interesting than they could ever be. It was hilarious when the regs in here went crazy over them and then sold out like I knew they would. |
I never liked the Meat Puppets, will you commend me on my commitment?
|
Listen to Meat Puppets II and say that with a straight face.
|
I want to hear this album. but noone with it seems to be on soulseek. sadface.

Ok..? |
I have new Against Me! on soulseek. I'd say it's the same as SFAFC, at least in terms of how good it is compared to their other albums.
What's the name of the new Meat Puppets and where can I get it? |
Rise to Your Knees is the new Meat Puppets and its only available on itunes right now. Or slsk.

Dr. Funk Go to the room allthehubub. |
This album is almost decent if you listen to it at 1.5 speed.
The music doesn't flow like it used too. The choruses seem out of place, and the verses sound kind of choppy, short, and unfinished. Stop is pretty much a garbage song any way you look at it. It's more repetitive than We Laugh at Danger, and not nearly as good. Anyone know who's in Borne on the FM Waves? |
Their video for White People For Peace is available on their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/againstme
I don't get it. |

Tegan Quin from Tegan and Sara.
Their video for White People For Peace is available on their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/againstme I don't get it.
The two sides represent warring factions. They are portrayed as sports teams playing in a stadium to show that media interest in the war is basically used as entertainment for people ,and that interests in it dont go much beyond death tolls (thus the little sports counter thing in one shot). The cheerleaders represent blind patriotism cheering on war without really questioning the violence or reasons behind it. The cheerleaders bloody mouth even goes one step further to show that they actually ENJOY the violence and are cheering for more. The fat guy is a corporate nationalist who dictates the war to the soldiers in order for his own monetary profit. The weird acoustic guitar playing guy represents the individual who is against the war. He cant do anything (he is trapped in a dirty bathroom with a guitar) and is forced to watch it go on. He plays and screams as loud as he can, but the war just keeps going. He is trapped for good. Oh, and for those that didn't catch it, this is Gabel: |
I'm only on song number 6 but I'm going to just say that this album sucks.
At Least with SFAFC there were three songs I liked to varying degrees. |

It's sad that I thought Americans Abroad was the best song on this album.

I do disagree with you about White People being terrible live though, I rather enjoyed it. When it comes to live versions, I think Borne on the FM waves is better live, with James singing Tegans part. Oh, and if you're going by that guys review, ignore what he says about the song "Stop". I'm a huge AM! fan, and I have to say that Stop is my least favourite song. Which is saying a lot, considering the fact that before, I didn't have a least favourite AM! song. Overall, I'd probably give the album a 7.5/10. It would have been an 8/10 if they released Up The Cuts as the acoustic version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_ycPql-GIk |
