Quiet One is awesome. It rocks real hard. Pete's soloing is at his best (unlike now ;) )
Summertime Blues was also killer. One of the best versions. |
i just watched these also. thanks wanderer.
Another Tricky Day is a top five fave Who song for me. and yeah, SB and Quiet One sound great. i've said it before and i'll say it again i believe the '79 to '81 Who is as good live as the band had ever been. not as spontaneous, but something is there that is great. they just sound, play, and perform so good.... |
Listening to The Amazing Journey :)
Just gotto love that one :) |
I'm going to try posting here a bit more. : (
|
Amazing Journey>Sparks is still what it's all about, even after all these years.
That and the Sell Out album. |
The Punk And The Godfather>Dr Jimmy is still what its all about, even after all these years.
That and the Live At Leeds album. |
Except those songs don't even come close to following each other

But...but...there's no ">" if the songs don't follow each other... |
ok i haven't heard many bootlegs but that is the best live version of 5:15 i have ever heard. it also reveals what a huge loss Entwistle was. he and Townshend just smoke on it. and Jones keeps pace. i don't even know if Pete could summon the energy to play like that night after night these days. his lead at the bridge is great!. Pete is a good player and one of the best in rock, period.
EDIT TO LUNCH:: foiled again :upset: |
nope, it says what a loss Entwistles bass sound was after late 80s. It was never great again after that.. same with Pete
|
I am officially in love with The Real Me. I have never known of its absolute awesomeness, but **** its awesome.
|
I think The Who By Numbers has my favorite bass playing of any Who album and some really good song writing, and I'll never get why no one listens to it. Sure, it has Squeeze Box on it, but only once.

you could say that about any Who album that isn't Tommy/Leeds/Next/Quad. |

Just felt like posting that. Maybe my favorite "live" performance ever. |

I know, that's why I had "live" in quotations.
It's still a cool performance though. |

i don't think thats quite true. among fans i think its very respected and widely listened to. and i like Squeeze Box. :(
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xZOrWK6d4g Just felt like posting that. Maybe my favorite "live" performance ever.
ah that really is great. i love when pete takes tommy's little guitar at the end and bangs it to bits. it seems for a moment the audience is silent as if to collectively think "omg they are seriously breaking things."
All Essen vids so far...
thanks dude. i downloaded all those Essen ones. made a nice little bootleg tape. man the guys were good at that show :) |
man just played (drums, not listen) through The Real Me, I wanna get my band to play it.
I'm exhausted :thumb: |
Well i feel like pontificating on Thr Who but don't know what to say. Trying to get back into the old stuff and what the band was before all this new stuff. I mean I like the new stuff. But its not just about music. Its just like they put this unexpected chapter at the end. I thought I knew how I would remember The Who. Or at least perceive them. But now that has changed...
I wonder if this makes any sense to anyone but me.... |
Here we go again....
Naw, just messing with you. The Who should end total rock 'n roll style. I mean, both keith and John died that way, while The Who were touring and kicking and stuff. |

Actually, the remastered version has Squeeze Box twice. There's a live version tossed in at the end. But I like Squeeze Box, especially the live version, so it's all good. I agree, it's a fantastic album. It was what changed me from a casual Tommy and Who's Next fan to a nut. And then Live at Leeds just made me think "wow these guys are the best ever." And that was that. How Many Friends is probably my favorite on Who By Numbers. Fantastic singing, good lyrics, great guitarwork, and Entwistle is all over that fretboard. |
I have the remastered one. It was more of a joke, really. The live version isn't that bad, but then again when has The Who ever been bad live?
123 on your points, too. How Many Friends is great. |

I mean, both keith and John died that way, while The Who were touring and kicking and stuff.
nah pete and rog can't go out like that. they were never like that. even John was "the quiet one". i was sort of surprised he went out like that. i mean i know he wasn't a saint and enjoyed "the good life", but he was just dignified somehow. great musician, expensive wine, planes, women. never on his back in the hospital or at rehab. and then he just goes and dies of s coke induced heart attack. he had a bad heart, anyway. i heard he took meds for it sometimes. he knew coke use could kill him. and he just tosses it all away. sort of unexpected. i really didn't know he had a "problem". keith was different. but still never a "junkie". he did dumb shi.t like drive cars into pools and photograph his trashed hotel rooms. or make lite of it. he just did everything different. he didn't do it to rebel or be cool like all these posers. he did it because it was funny to him. and he meant to do it, he did everything with humor. the drunk klown. he did pills and shi.t. and drinking was his major thing. also to be fair he died clean. drank water that night when he was out. and pete? classic "artist" alcoholic. workaholic alcoholic. got into drugs late in the game for a couple years and got out early in a rehab in Malibu, California. Spiritually rebirthing on his All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes album. thats 100% pete. who else with that bullshi.t? he can't go out like that. rog? um, yeah..... i'm afraid we are stuck with these old farts :( |

yes, I know that. It was really sad. For The Who's very last concert, there needs to be a massive explosion or something. |
great who thread. i'll be around....
