I don't appreciate many writers. I can only name a few I enjoy like Auden, Clifton, Jarrell, and Eliot.
|
Atwood is pretty decent. Her use of commas erks me, but The Handmaid's Tale is good.
Paulo Coehlo! Read The Alchemist right now. |
hey, i'm gonna try and start posting more often, anyone got any suggestions for some good new writers to look for?
crimson hands, cool drummer guy, and magnus are pretty good newcomers.
|
Aye, magnus is definitely pretty good, and crimson hands seems to be fairly competent. I've not read anything by CDG yet though.
We've had a few decent n00bs recently, come to think of it - Mitch2oo6 isn't an awesome writer just yet, but he's working hard with his critiques and whatnot. Let's hope it continues. |
I noticed last night that there suddenly seemed to be a couple of new guys that were giving decent critiques...I was pleasantly suprised.
I've been impressed by magnus...I think I'm yet to critique any of his stuff though, I really should give him a few comments. Can't say I've looked into crimsonhands or cooldrummerguy's stuff in any detail yet. Timmy P |
effing hell... what's happened to this place?
I only posted my piece this time yesterday, and already I've got 5-6 good full critiques! (and that's not including black dots and crits owed) - this is a really good bunch of newbs we have here. Maybe this could be a turning point? *crosses fingers* |
Watch it go to hell now that you've said something. :)
|
ah crap.
RIP S&L |
Haha...I did notice that, everyone seems to have lots of crits. Pity no one's around in here though. We are meant to be a community!
But we can't complain...as long as they keep crit'ing everything's good! Timmy P |
Meh, I was here ages before I posted in the community thread. I guess it's kind of perceived as 'regs only'.
Plus there was that time I told a n00b it was a 500-post minimum postcount to post in the community thread. |
Fantastic!!!
*Looks at post count* :) |
Hello S&L. I hardly know ye.
I'm Joe. I write off and on. I'll do some good critiques, but expect that people would be willing to critique my efforts. The crowd here seems pretty nice. I guess I'll pull up a stool and hang around a bit. |
Just read the guides and try to help out.
Hopefully S&L will be better then ever in the coming months. |
Yeah, there's no shortage of repettitive, uncreative songs here.
|
Ha, you haven't been here almost three years. Trust me, it has rarely been any better. I'm making an effort to clean things up a bit now that I'm back.
|
I can't wait. By the way, I should be submitting something relatively soon. I've got ideas, I just need to force myself to write.
|
hey. I vaguely remember you from a while back. I don't think we ever spoke.
welcome back etc. |
A note: I merged my thread and ATC's. The posts in his thread have been temp deleted just in case there is some mass issue with them being gone, though they weren't really helpful in the long run.
|
hey. I vaguely remember you from a while back. I don't think we ever spoke.
welcome back etc.
Yeah, I've been here before. I had a sloppy folk-ish song that I did for the punk forum, but that contest never concluded. It just kind of............trailed off. I also did a song about Against Me!. More specifically, mocking the people who discredit Against Me! for making a mediocre album on a semi-famous label. My next will be better. |
I look forward to it. Although we've had a few decent new writers recently, there's still a lot of drivel, and it's a bit of a chore critiquing some of it.
Burt, a question: Any way of getting a copy of Realms Of The Unreal over merry old England way? I'd find some way of downloading it, but 56k=gayer than spandex dungarees. |
If you can't send it by snail-mail, I don't mind downloading it (I'm interested in a look), and sending a copy by post to Jason.
Welcome back Crack-Rock-Steady, I can't say I remember you/knew of you, but hey. Hope you enjoy your stay :) I'm finding it incredibly hard to write at the moment, I have all the inspiration in the world, yet I can't get it down on paper *tears out hair in frustration* |
If either of you want it, talk with me on AIM and I'll send it to you on transfer.
|
Tim, try rewriting some old stuff if you're struggling. That's what I'd been doing for months up until this week when the spark finally came.
Burt: I'll possibly do that at a later date - at work atm, so can't transfer, but if you've got the patience to wait for my 56k to chug through it, that's cool. :) |
It's not a problem.
New critting policy in the rules thread. |
Ok, cool.
Good call on the new critting policy, but do you not think one crit for every song posted is a bit on the lean side? |
Nick says we should start out slow and I can't say I blame him, since moderation will be difficult in the beginning. I advise our better songwriters to crit three times for one song, as that is what I and other vets will probably be doing.
|
Ah, that's fair enough. Does that mean we're going to start seeing a few more appearances in the main forum from the LC guys?
That'd be excellent, as it would improve the quality of the writing in the main forum by about 300%. |
They may. I always post songs from LC in here anyway.
The point is to get people actually interested in critting/reading other work. Hopefully it works out. |
Yeah, hopefully.
I think half the problem is apathy from the regs - if one or two lose interest and stop posting, the others get bogged down with constantly having to crit dull and samey songs from the less experienced writers every time they want to post one, and you get a downward spiral. If we can get a few decent writers posting regularly, then we can start building from there. |
Hmm... finally found my way in here.
Quick question, does the critique rule work retroactively as well? I've done roughly 50+ critiques so far; does this mean I can (over time of course) post 50 songs without having to do any more critiques? Not that I would stop critiquing of course, just playing devil's advocate. :) |
