Oh right, I didn't know that. I wish I was up to some etudes, but I'm still just starting out on piano really. The Liszt is really great though, and they're concert etudes, so they have musical substance for the listener aswell as providing the pianist with a solid workout. I'll try and upload it in the next few days then :)

My guitar teacher explained Etudes to me like this. You have two types of etudes. One type you play to learn techiniques and how to play other etudes. The other type of Etude you play to show off your skills.

Haha well that is true to an extent I suppose. These etudes would easily fall into both categories though. I would learn them for the technique, but once I'd learnt them I'd definitely want to play them to people haha. By the way I posted a link to a video of one of the etudes in the R&M video thread, first page I think if you want an idea of what they're like.

That took some doing eh.

gmoneyguy 04-17-2006 04:15 PM

I just realized that the example sheet music from the book I suggest to genuineimitation is the etude I am currently working on.

I would try to find a classical teacher because alot of it is very particular with technique, and phrasing. They are hard to pick up without someone knowledgeable helping you.

I have a teacher that knows alot about the jazz and blues as well as metal. I think he may know classical as well. I'll ask him on friday when I go to lessons.

If he knows alot about metal he should know some classical. Does he have degree in guitar?

Seconded. But then again I teach and I don't teach my students classical.

I can't afford both teachers and my teacher and I have a sort of chemistry together.

For all I know, he may not just dabble.

You should be fine untl you go to college. Didn't you say you plan on studying music? If you major in music you study with a guitarist who is a classical guitarist.
