You know, I never got that. Vader's supposed to be like the Emperor's Himmler, but in the first two movies Imperial officers are stupid enough to keep condescending to him. Of course he gets them back by choking them, but Vader seems to play a less important role in the Empire in the first movie than he does, say, in the third.

One of the things I've noticed watching Star Wars again after all these years is just how much the stormtroopers suck. They're just terrible! They stand still while they're firing! Terrible tactics.

I guess an authentic military behavior isn't really the point though.
