It's pretty damn good for being a single. |
Hey i found some lyrics someone tried to peice together
Eye on the T.V. Coz' tragedy thrills me Whatever flavor It happens to be Like ['bout?] a husband Drowned by the ocean/ Shot by his own son He [used a?] poison [probably inaccurate, I know] [Lines missing] Its my kind of story Its no fun till someone dies. Don't look at me like I am a monster Frown out your one face But with the other Stare like a junkie Into the T.V. Stare like a zombie Whi-le the mother Who holds her child Watches him die Hands to the sky crying Why, oh why. Coz' I need to watch things die from a distance Vicariously I live while the whole world dies [lines missing] Why can't we just admit it (x2) [lines missing] I need to watch things die from a good safe distance Vicariously I live while the whole world dies You all feel the same so why Why can't we just admit it. [several lines missing] |
"Vicarious" is one of the best songs I have ever heard. Holy crap.

Here's what I've revised from what a previous poster had tried to do as far as lyrics go...
I've only added a few words here and there that I got. Still a lot of missing spots. [I]Eye on the TV cause tragedy thrills me Whatever flavor it happens to be Like about a husband drowned by the ocean Shunned by his own son He used a poison It’s my kind of story Its no fun till someone dies Don’t look at me like I am a monster Frown out your one face, but with the other Stare like a junkie into the TV Stare like a zombie While the mother who holds her child Watches him die Hands to the sky crying Why oh why Cause I need to watch things die from a distance Vicariously I live while the whole world dies Why can’t we just admit it Why can’t we just admit it We won’t get -----until the blood is flowing I need to watch things die form a good safe distance Vicariously I live while the whole world dies You all the feel the same So why cant we just admit it [missing] desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men Pull you hair on out [missing] We all fear a tragedy [missing] vampire [/I] I get the feeling its about renunciation from the world around you. "Vicariously I live while the whole world dies". Not allowing the world to affect you as an individual, a sense of identity separation from the world. "Stare like a zombie into the TV". Maynard has often expressed his dislike for TV, which is also the source of all media/bullsh'it that keeps young minds closed and such. It also reminds me of previous ideas in Lateralus. The idea of being eternal. Anyways thats my short little summary of the meaning I'm getting from it. I just couldn't help myself...I had to say something about the meaning. |
...I...don't know what to say..
I hope this single dominates the commercial world, and makes it bow to it's truth.. This is just a piece of what many have been thinking for a while I'm sure. Or at least thought about.. This song *will* own, and ride off on the commercial worlds women.. |
Either way, this is all i'm going to be listening to for the weekend.

Haha, that's awesome man. I'm glad I'm not the only one getting those sorts of ideas from it. It almost seems like a post-self awareness song/album. While Lateralus focused on self-awareness and philosophies, etc., this seems to focus more on taking those ideas and applying them to your surroundings and such.
Man oh man, finally new material to sift out it's meaning.
Definantly man im looking forward to unravelling the messages the whole album delivers hey..i love the way maynard can write with meaning like that hey
Didn't they say that Maynard was doing a new style of singing for the new album. If so, what do you guys think of it? I personally like the way he sings the "da daa da" part in the song.
Yeah this song has got me very excited about the ideas that other songs and the album as a whole will throw at us.
I didn't like Maynard's new style of singing at first, but it's really grown on me now. I think it's very strong, and I like how it sounds sort of distanced and even more in the background than usual, (if anyone knows what I'm talking about.) It reinforces the idea of Maynard's voice just being another instrument and part of the Tool collective. EDIT: New thought-- does anyone else feel the first lines "eye on the tv/casue tragedy thrills me/whatever the flavor" sound a bit sarcastic? |

maynards vocals are definently behind the music again in lateralus they were a little more prominant i suppose but it will grow on me more |
I wonder if Isis had any influence on his new style of singing, like the being buried by the instrument's sound.
Toolfreak, you and I think very much alike.
Remedy, I don't think ISIS had much influence in that aspect. It just seems like part of Tool tradition. I remember first hearing them and wondering why their singer couldn't sing louder. |

Yeah, and now that thought seems so ridiculous. I don't even notice his "low singing" anymore.
Yes, I mostly thought of that because i knew they were freinds with Isis. I first noticed that in Stinkfist.
So have any of you guys put in a pre-order for the new album?
No, I would rather like to walk into the store and find that it's been sold out, but i really should pre-order it.
I might go reserve a copy at Best-Buy the day before or something. But I'm not gonna pre-order because it ships on the release date, so I wouldn't have the album until after May 2nd, and I can't wait, especially when Best Buy is two minutes from my house.
I thought it came out May 2nd?
Well they would ship the album ON May 2nd, so I wouldn't get it for at least 2-3 days.
Yeah, that would be my biggest fear to. Reserving is your best action, I wonder if any stores would have a release party?
see jb hifi in oz are letting people pre-order for 20 bucks rather than paying 30 lol
Best Buy is selling it for 14.99.
Anyways, I'm still listening to Vicarious and good god it has some amazing drumming. |
