Most people don't even know the real definition of a Hippie.

Most people think if you wear tye-dye and smoke weed, you're a hippie.

Pff.

jpj 05-24-2005 04:05 PM

Really the South Park guys seem to be against everybody. They don't leave anyone out when poking fun.

thickasabrick 05-24-2005 04:05 PM
They're against Hippies. So whatever.

While on the subject, other than doing a lot of drugs and being on the road a lot, the Grateful Dead are hardly Hippies judging by today's standards. They weren't politically active, they didn't usually write songs about peace, and they weren't vegetarians nor vegans.
Very true. But it's hard to nail down exactly what makes a "hippy," a lot of musicians/figures in the 60's were considered hippies, but when you actually take a look at their lives you would realize they really weren't. Jim Morrison was considered a hippy by a lot of (uneducated) people, but in my opinion...he's one of the last major artists of the sixties to be considered a hippy. Bob Dylan is even more of a hippy.

JonG 05-24-2005 04:23 PM

Kind of off-subject but I seem to be getting more and more into NRPS. I have the self-titled and Panama Red, other good albums?

Badmoon 05-24-2005 04:32 PM

They have some good live albums. I've only heard a couple of those, aswell as s/t and Panama Red.

And do not use their s/t album cover as an avatar. It has been used a million times. :p

/was the first ;)

Seafroggys 05-24-2005 04:44 PM

Hippies are more of an ideology than a lifestyle. The lifestyle is the stereotype, but whatever.

On that subject, we just had our Senior Class character awards, and I got Biggest Tree Hugger! :thumb: So hyped.

Were there many classic rock songs on enviornmentalism? I'd like to check some out.

Broken Arrow 05-24-2005 04:49 PM

And I resized it for you, so I thought I had dibs on it for at least a few days :p

But yes, it's been killed now. By me.

Badmoon 05-24-2005 04:56 PM

Schyma had it too.
And I resized it for you, so I thought I had dibs on it for at least a few days
That just makes me never want to ask anything of you :p

lunch998 05-24-2005 05:22 PM

Fine by me.

It is a great album though.

Broken Arrow 05-24-2005 05:57 PM

Good Lucille has such a beautiful tone.
I just got the Kids Are Alright, I'm excited to watch it.
Would you believe that at this very moment I am wearing my "The Kids Are Alright Tour 1989" t-shirt?

There is no real definition of hippie. Or for that matter beatnik, punk or any countercultrue groups of that nature. They defy definition

Badmoon 05-24-2005 06:04 PM

Well, there's no official definition, but surely you could tell point out or describe a Punk, Beatnik or Hippie.

I saw that today too.

I was embarassed for all three of us.

JonG 05-24-2005 07:42 PM

What? I'm open to all kinds of music, I don't only listen to Classic Rock. They don't continue to make new music so...

I think of anything is has to do with what music they listen to. Of course there will always be the average honor-student kid who listens who punk but doesn't look like they would, but if someone dresses like a hippie and listens to punk, they couldn't be a hippie, could they?

(Has anyone ever actualy seen a beatnik in real life?)

Broken Arrow 05-24-2005 07:53 PM

Rob Derhak is in second!!

I also posted 32 Things in the thread. Probably my favourite moe. song.

I listen to a lot of punk but I look like a hippie, and a listen to a lot of jam bands and psychedelic music too. :upset:

Edit- What would you consider a beatnik?

JonG 05-24-2005 08:05 PM

Punk gets boring.

I only like Millencolin.

Not side-tracking to punk..

What are some good moe. songs to get? I've got..

New York City
She Sends Me
Timmy Tucker
Mexico
Nebraska
Opium

so far.

Broken Arrow 05-24-2005 08:08 PM

I look like a hippy and may have indulged in pyschedelic drugs, but I really love meat. I'm also not usually political and, oh, I dont give a rat's ass about the earth.*

*acctually I kinda do

ledpoisoning27 05-24-2005 08:11 PM
Punk gets boring.
I got my roots from punk music. When I was little my dad would always play the Ramones or the Clash or the Stooges while I was in the car with him because he used to be a punk back in the 70's.
Right I mostly listen to Proto-Punk. Support the Proto-Punk Thread

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 05-24-2005 08:31 PM

Ever since I heard about salvia Ive been asking around but nobody knows what I'm talking about. Do shrooms grow in Canada?

I've heard about salvia. Isn't it the same effects of acid, but results are instant and the effect last only around 2-3 hours.
I've heard about salvia. Isn't it the same effects of acid, but results are instant and the effect last only around 2-3 hours.
Kinda. You can get real vivid trips but it depends how much you smoke.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 05-24-2005 08:42 PM

I thought it only lasts 15-30 min.

One of those poetry guys who has sunglasses, a goatee, and a beret, and they were striped mime shirts and sit in smokey clubs playin' the bongos.

Real cool daddy-o's.

Thats as long as trip as I've had. It was like one or two tokes.
I thought it only lasts 15-30 min.
I think most of the effects you can really feel wear off after 30 mins.

No! Read On the Road by Jack Kerouac and then tell me what a Beatnik is.
(Has anyone ever actualy seen a beatnik in real life?)
Tom Waits like to label himself as a Beat Poet, but the Beat generation died during around the late 1950's in San Francisco. Then the Folkies moved in, and then the Hippies.
