i've beat down some pretty big spaceships with my rolling pin...
what kids tv shows have a ska theme? i'm intrigued... thanks though, i love when people respond with 'yea well your a fag' and the like because it means i win.
Keep telling yourself all this, I didn't call you a fag I echoed popular sentiment. |
lol i agree. he may be a good song writer (i dont see it), but come on a fat white rapper out from the ghettos of rhode island is laughable thing.
I don't like Sage Frances, but what does his background have to do with not thinking he's legit? If he were presenting himself as a gangsta it'd be one thing, but he doesn't. I think rap stopped being an artform restricted to Blacks or people from the ghetto a long time ago. |

I back what you said hip-hop is for people of all races and backgrounds but if you'll take a look at Sage Francis and the people he runs with all of them suck. And the thing they have in common is that they're either white or from like, Minneapolis. |
Yeah, I agree that Sage Frances sucks, but it's not just because he's white or from Rhode Island, as that dude was insinuating.
|
I've heard worse than Sage Francis. But he's nothing I would go out of my way to listen to.
|
white or from Rhode Island
Well that's not exactly a recipe for success in any facet of life. |

What's wrong with mpls? |
Well Minneapolis has never produced a good rapper. Plus the Timberwolves and Twins are going to be pretty ass for the next like 2 years.
|
The Timberwolves will suck, yes. But the Twins? Oh no they wont... (Liriano)
|
Yeah but good luck next season in the AL Central... (Detroit Tigers)
|
and the success of their sports teams has ...what bearing on its relevance to producing musicians?
|
Minneapolis has produced Prince, the Replacements, and Hüsker Dü, though, so it has some merit.
But then again, it's not like major record labels are short on money (usually), so what does it matter to them? And the label would probably make more money from the band than the band would from the label.
This argument (that supporting a major label either by buying their product or being a band on their roster is a punishable offense) is fine, unless you shop at any chain "box store" (Wal-Mart, etc), ever buy gasoline, eat industrialized meat, etc etc etc, in which case the argument is nullified. We forget how many huge, immensely evil corporate powers there are, and how much we really contribute to them simply by living a normal, consumer-driven life. The "Music Industry" is horrible, definitely, and they really don't deserve any more money, but there are a lot more bigger, meaner bullies in the world that I'm worried about. |

It's called a joke, dick. |
So, do people generally like Against Me! with band and all, rather than the solo acoustic stuff?
|
I like ATEC the best, but the Acoustic EP is also awesome.

I'm going to quote myself, because I think I made a pretty valid point that no one addressed. |
I see your words but all I can read is "pay attention to me listen to my opinions dammit!'
Don't you have a vegan basement tour to be booking? |
Don't you have some irrelevant to be complaining about? What's a vegan basement?
|
I just dont support major label stuff because there is often very little that I tihnk is good enough to support. :-/
plus, I only buy vinyl now and very few huge major releases come out on vinyl. This post makes me seem worse than I really am. |

We're talking about the music industry and major labels, which makes the other things you mentioned irrelevant. Also, there's only so much in the corporate world that one can avoid. Obviously you can choose not to shop at Wal-Mart but there's really no getting around buying gas from a corporate bully. |
That's kind of my point. People make such a huge deal about a band signing to a major, when those people themselves (a generalization though this may be) take no real measures to avoid corporate allegiance or no real steps towards true "independence". You can't draw such a hypocritical line and vehemently accuse a band of "selling out", but then not apply those same ethics to the very life you lead, which is exactly what so many naysayers are doing.
(The "you's" in that paragraph are not referring to anyone in particular, so don't no one get all pissy). |
I see your point, but I just don't think that people should stop the hating on major labels just because there are even worse companys out there.
Of course, as long as our society runs like it does today, there are alot of (evil) corporations that we are kind of forced to support eg. gasoline. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't avoid supporting them when we get the chance. Personally I don't shop too much in the huge supermarkets (which I'm assuming that Wal-mart is, never been there), and I try not to buy products from coca-cola mcdonalds and stuff like that. I'm still a consumer and I definitely support bad things, but I try my best to keep it low. |
I have a forum for AM! fans, so join if you want :)

I'm seeing them in april supporting Dropkick Murphys. yay!
|
They're touring withe the Foo Fighters AND Serj Tankian now?
I'm even more disappointed now. |
im seeing them in two weeks, (not with foo or serj). they are playing regular shows in between the huge venues.
also, im "art" for against me is posted on there website =) |
I saw that someone uploaded Tom's first demo over the summer, but the file's expired. Can anyone re-upload that for me?
|
I can do that when I sit at the right computer. Just remind me again if I forget it.
|
I have a 1st Pressing of RAR on the way to my house at this very moment
|
That is amazing. You must have paid like 100. for that, haha. I can only imagine that it's only going to get more valuable.
|
does anyone know what cymbals warren uses, i know he uses gretch drums.
|
Zildjian cymbals. That was me who posted the demo tape in the summer, I can do it again if Henrik forgets. And I'd kill for a first pressing RAR!
Anyone see the newest AP? I bought it because Against Me! is on the cover and there's an awesome interview with them. First time I've heard Tom talk about the Tallahassee thing other than that video on Google. |
Yeah, I saw that magazine last Saturday when I was at the store. I wasn't that interested, ha.
|
Against Me! at Bonnaroo. Right along side of Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, and Willie Nelson.
|
The only one of those that excites me are Willie Nelson.
Am I healthy? |
What did he say, and what else did they talk about?
He said that no one got their head smashed into a counter, all that happened was that a drink got knocked over. And then he went on to make a joke about how they were pissed off at him, meanwhile they're a bunch of anarchists who "ran to the cops at the first sign of trouble" They also talked about how Andrew said he was going to beat the **** out of the guy who said he got his head smashed at the coffee shop. I don't know about you, but I would not want to **** with Andrew. They mention some stories about how they all met each other, and how they all wound up in Gainesville and such. Line up changes and having to record RAR a full second time. There's also an interview with Matt Flood (of BtMI!'s Asbestos Records) about his extensive Against Me! vinyl collection. |
Sounds nice. Is the interview available anywhere on the internet?
|

Not that I know of. If you don't get Alternative Press over there, I can always just scan some pages for you. |
Yeah, Cliche, do you think you could upload it?
Thanks, man. |
