well realy ur assumtions rnt too far.....as long as its not death metal heavy...
Then it'll be your style exactly.

I really think a common misconception of Death Metal is that it's all unrelentingly heavy. That is not true at all. You have Melodic Death Metal, which does have very loud and decidely random patches, yet it has a softer, gentle, and even more acoustic side.
I would honestly check some out.
Can someone recommend me some Burzum?

THX
Seen as Johnny already gave some, how about Burzum/Aske ? It's an E.P, and it has around 8 tracks on it. Each very eerie and atmospheric. Failing that deffinitely Filosofem, it's one of the better Black Metal releases.

Failing those, just get Mayhem's De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, it's one of the best Metal releases ever.

Johnny, you dark horse! :p
If you want tr00 black metal style, get the self-titled album, with Det Som Engang Var being similar, but a little more atmospheric, and frankly listenable. Hvis Lyset Tar Oss/i] is is a four track, 45 minute album that has a more atmospheric feel to it, and it's probably my favourite album by Burzum...but if you're a fan of a rawer, underproduced sound than their earliest albums are what you should go for.
Thx dude. I've been wanting to check out this album, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, because i've heard some really good comments on it. Ill download their stuff right now.

Master Of Puppets is not a concept album.

But here is one
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway

Daven 08-23-2005 07:09 PM

Aslo a lot of Pink Flyd.
Rush-2112
I respectfully disagree...I'd say that the overriding concept/theme holding it together is the idea of power, control, and how these can be abused by those holding them. There's no formal criteria for a concept album as far as I can tell, but I'd definitely count Master Of Puppets as one.
And besides, it can be looked at like this:

Battery: Childhood abuse
Master Of Puppets: Turning to drugs
Eye Of The Beholder: Falling into madness
(Welcome Home) Sanitarium: Being treated for madness
Disposable Hero: Either joining the army, or being abused by the powers
Leper Messiah: Realising the reality of religion
Orion: Death, and a search for peace
Damage Inc: Being dragged into Hell

I really don't think MoP is a concept album at all :-/.

Anyway, add Iron Maiden's Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, Porcupine Tree's Voyage 34 and In Absentia, A Perfect Circle's Thirteenth Step, Iced Earth's Dark Saga and Night Of The Stormrider and Mastodon's Leviathan to that list.

Eye Of The Beholder is on And Justice For All. Track 3 is The Thing That Should Not Be. Plus, Orion doesn't really have a meaning, what with being an instrumental and all. And Damage Inc. is about nothing in particular.

Sorry for the double post.

flamesofbodom 08-23-2005 07:43 PM

Orion was a tribue to Cliff. That's meaning.

Kingofdudes 08-23-2005 07:48 PM
Orion was a tribue to Cliff. That's meaning.
Cliff was alive when the song was written, so wtf?

A great concept album : Age of Silence - Acceleration

Thanks man. I think when I get home from vacation I'll download a bunch of their stuff. I heard Masturbating the War God, which was a really cool song. It sounded like he was growling through a pillow, but everything, other the vocals, was excellent.

I had Thing That Should Not Be in my head as I wrote it, I just mixed up the titles.

And something that is an instrumental definitely has meaning. This is the idea that I came up with after listening to the album.

Lateralus23462 08-23-2005 10:01 PM

Sorry for the double-post, but this addresses something completely different.

Concept albums are different from theme albums, and Master of Puppets is a theme album.

For the guy who asked about Melodic Death Metal, I'll suggest a few songs for you:

Punish My Heaven by Dark Tranquillity
Cathode Ray Sunshine by Dark Tranquillity
Artifacts of the Black Rain by In Flames
Square Nothing by In Flames
Blinded By Fear by At The Gates
The Chainheart Machine by Soilwork

What Entombed album should I start with?

Iron Bars 08-25-2005 04:25 AM

Wolverine's blues, it was one of their first albums I think and realy shows you what kind of sound they want to have and it has the track Wolverine's blues on it wich is one of my favorites by them.

Could someone recommend me some Brutal Prog? Im really getting into Behold the Arctopus but its really killing me i can't find any of their tabs.

loathed 08-27-2005 12:23 AM

can anyone recommend me some good ballads. ballads as in, slower, mellow and some sort emotional songs by metal bands. as in, the intro and verses are acoustically done or on clean tone. then when the choruses kick in, the distortion comes in...thanks :thumb:

loathed 08-27-2005 02:23 AM

anyone has any other recommendations of ballads?
Could someone recommend me some Brutal Prog? Im really getting into Behold the Arctopus but its really killing me i can't find any of their tabs.
now depends on what you mean by brutal prog. Some bands I think they'd fit are Spastic Ink (powertabs.net), Spiral Architect (powertabs.net) Dysrhythmia and PsyOpus

MarkOsullivan 08-27-2005 12:25 PM

hey dudes, i've heard good things about Kalmah, would anyone be able to reccommend me some of their stuff?

dUSK 08-27-2005 12:36 PM
anyone has any other recommendations of ballads?
Try:

Faith No More - Easy
Opeth - To Bid You Farewell

However, I think Guns N' Roses really do set the standards with ballads, with songs like Patience, Civil War, November Rain etc. If you like the ballads you've heard by them, try Velvet Revolver - Fall To Pieces and Loving The Alien.
