I don't even want to take a stab at it.
|
i imagine jerry is trying to get pete to loosen up and pete is probably going on about troubles in the world and punk rock coming and "it" being all over. jerry is like "c'mon man, loosen up. have a shroom cap. life is good, man" and pete is like "i gotta stop drinking and write me another mini opera." and jerry's like " :smoke:"
|
Actually, that sounds about right.
|
Haha, I was thinking along the same lines.
|
I agree.....for the last concert of this tour, Pete needs to whip out the SG.
|
Pete is pretty happy with his Fender guitars and amp. And I would be too. Fender Strats>Sgs
|
im planning on seeing these guys in DC *crosses fingers*

blasphemy! At least play a regular Strat, and not some other guitarists signature model :P Naw SGs sound much better anyway. |
No, I don't post at thewhotour.com.
Pete's strat/"current amp" sound is the worst sound he has ever had. It's terrible. Also the man should be banned from using whammybar... I understand that one (both) Oakland show was filmed. I remember that there has been some talk about it... ? Also, Pete indeed played 'No Face, No Name, No Number' last weekend during Jim Capaldi tribute show. haha yeah he's not too good with the whammy bar....overuses it like hell.
|
Maybe it doesn't sound as good for his overdrive but his clean tone is much better. I'd rather have bad overdrive than bad clean tone if I was playing what they do. Lets face it, Marshall + SG sucks for clean in comparison but a Fender guitar and amp are fantastic.

New Pete interview. Good read. |
Nice link. Good pictures in that article.
|
yeah that was really well done. enjoyed it a lot.
|
Learning French.
Priceless  |
Haha yeah. Pete's always a comedian.
I like how honest he is answering the questions though. It's nice to see someone who's not afraid to be honest. Pete's honesty has gotten him in trouble before, because he never really knows when to shutup, but it means that his interviews are always entertaining, and here he's really honest and insightful without saying anything jerky and stupid. I like the stuff he said about Mehmet Baba a lot. And about being unhappy when The Who were at their peak. And about the current Who being different, not better or worse. And just about everything else he said. |
Hey guys, want to see my great Keith Moon imitation?

http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=4919919&q=hi
wow that was quite excellent. you nail it. i think that is my fave part of the song. i wish all the Who's drummers played it just like that on stage. something about it is just perfect for that segment of the song. its as if Moon understood he was to add to the suspense before Daltrey kicked in, not end the suspense with some big showy solo....i wonder if pete came up with that, though? i've never heard a demo for WGFA so i don't know....
Pete playing at Jim Capaldi tribute show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC4YovsKR18
thanks wanderer. nice performance. i also like when pete basically calls the heckler in the audience a cun.t. good 'ol pete....cracks me up.... |
I actually like what Zak does for that solo (and his is technically harder) but I know what you mean....Keith's version is ace in that it builds into the scream, rather than being a wankfest.

thanks wanderer. nice performance. i also like when pete basically calls the heckler in the audience a cun.t. good 'ol pete....cracks me up....
He was refering to person who shouted same thing at same building in 1974 during his first solo show. Threre's a great boot of that show. |
I just listened to Tommy, the first Who experience of mine.
I find it a really strange listen, i don't know how to feel about it. Certainly need a bit more time to appreciate it i think. |
Listen to it, very much. All the instrumentals rule :)
I just listened to Tommy, the first Who experience of mine.
I find it a really strange listen, i don't know how to feel about it. Certainly need a bit more time to appreciate it i think.
Tommy has never caught on with me. Studio, live, or otherwise. I'm not sure if i would recommend it to anyone as a place to start with The Who, althoguh picking a place to start with The Who can be a bit of difficult business. I like Tommy ok. I hear and realize its value. And I hate to say its overrated, I just think its merits are overstated. |
I've given in a couple of informal listens since, it's starting to click very nicely. I had a look at the story interpretation as well which i found interesting.
The first things that really grabbed me when i listened to it was the guitar instrumental at the end of Overture, the rhythmic pattern to Sparks, and a lot of Keith Moon's drum parts (you can feel the energy behind his playing i swear). Cousin Kevin really creeped me out as well. The rest of it seems nicely arranged as i listen to it again. I can see what you mean as perhaps a difficult starting point JXD. I'm liking it though. |
well i'm glad you find it challenging. it is that. and upon the first several listens (and beyond) it is an interesting album. still is to my ears, tbh. but it just never "clicked" for me like it has others. lately a little more so, but not quite completely. i kinda see Tommy as The Who's odd man out sort of album. doesn't quite fit them. although some say the same of my favorite Who album, Quadrophenia. which i think is "100% Who", however ambitious. so it goes between the Tommy and Quadrophenia Who factions....two sides of the same coin, we are....
|
yeah I'm a Tommy lover all the way. Quad took me awhile to "click" but it definitally clicks with me now.
I think Tommy is very cool to me is because the moment I completely fell in love with the Who was watching "SEe Me Feel Me" on The Kids Are Alright, it just clicked instantly and I was in love. |
You know which albums don't get enough recognition? A Quick One and The Who By Numbers. I really like both of them.
|
Both of those are next on my list, actually.
|
I like Tommy/Quad but not even close to 'Sell out'...
Here is great videos from 1981 Essen show It's such a shame what happened to Entwistle's bass sound in late 80s ?. He still had such great sound before that. I have never quite understoodd what happened and I still wonder if it had something to do with his hearing ?. Not to even mention Pete who sadly little later discovered the "joy" of the ridulous type of "soloing/whammybar obsession" thing that he simply doesn't have the technique to do and it' just bad.
