They are pretty good.

Kingofdudes 02-15-2005 05:07 PM

Radio helped me to discover Floyd. I really really got into them after listening to Animals.

Distant Echoes 02-15-2005 05:44 PM

They play animals on the radio there? all we get is a load of songs from DSOTM and The Wall.

I couldnt enjoy listening to floyd songs on the radio, knowing theres a concept behind them...just like when i listen to an album, i always finsih from start to end, even if theres a song i dont like...which there isnt.

Riva 02-15-2005 05:49 PM

I found Delicate Sound Of Thunder in my mum's CD collection, which hooked me, then listened to Ummagumma, Obscured By Clouds and More on tape, which turned me into the Floyd fanboy I am today.

Nah, my first taste of Floyd was the radio, and after checking out Animals I was hooked.

Distant Echoes 02-15-2005 06:06 PM

After i got DSOTM for the first time, i hated it...but like LZIV, i just kept listening to it for some reason...and grew into it.

Probably wouldve helped if i knew what a concept album was all them years ago, wouldve helped me understand alot more, but what was odd was that I asked for the CD, and my parents or friends didnt just let me listen.

lunch998 02-15-2005 06:13 PM

My dad likes their early stuff, but that wasn't how I got into them. One day I just bought Dark Side, and you know how it goes from there.

Distant Echoes 02-15-2005 06:17 PM

Its been a while since i saw you on Lunch, including before the site crash. Rep ++

Its been so long im actually able to rep you :)

but my parents love all that stuff, but barely have any albums. Most is slowjam stuff.

I got a huge 24'x6' dsotm poster for the basement, after deciding not to waste my time painting it. very nice :thumb:

Distant Echoes 02-15-2005 06:29 PM

ive been trying that site when it was down...only got to level 7

pretty bad for somebody who got a 120 on the IQ test :(

but to stay on topic...would Obscurred by clouds be a good next album for me to bou by Pink Floyd. I have most of the post dsotm era, and want to go back a little. i know thats the next album back, but still have heard some good about it

It's really good. I think I'm the official OBC whore in here.

Kingofdudes 02-15-2005 06:32 PM

Obscurred by Clouds is a very good CD. Very mellow and relaxing.

DeusExMachina 02-15-2005 07:40 PM

I haven't heard much Genesis.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-15-2005 08:05 PM

I haven't heard Obscured By Clouds yet. I found this other kid at my school who likes PF though, so I'm hoping he might have some stuff I can borrow or have burned or something.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-15-2005 10:50 PM

I think I got hooked on Pink Floyd after I moved into my new house and discovered Dark Side of the Moon in my dad's CD collection. Then I got Animals, bought my dad The Wall for Xmas, and now I'm a full fledged Floyd fanboy. (I have more Floyd cds, but those were the first 3 I got.

EDIT: [/parentheses]

PeenkPhloide 02-16-2005 10:30 AM

I heard a song on the radio one day, I'm pretty sure it was off the wall, and I asked my dad what it was. I then found out he was a huge fan and hada buncha cds. Then we bought those ill3g7l russian mp3 cds..with just about every album on 2 cds...and iii love it.

A) I first got into Floyd because I heard Another Brick in the Wall a few years ago.
B) One of my friends told me that Comfortably Numb is about drugs. I laughed in his face. He's not heard the entire album, by the way, just ABITW (II) and Numb. Hence why I laughed. I then told him it's about the isolation that the album is written about, and he argued with me for a good 10 mins about it.

Your friend was right. Roger came up with the lyrics after having to play a show totally drugged up.

Have you seen the movie? Comfortably Numb is about drugs. The entire album is about isolation, sure, but it's heavily tied in with the effects of drugs.

guitarded_chuck 02-16-2005 04:52 PM

The movie is loosely based on a character derived from both Waters and Barrett. All the songs about war and childhood are loosely based of Waters childhood, when his father died in his war, his view of education, etc. By the way, doesn't Waters talking about war in music get repetive and boring? One of the reasons why I'm not a big Wall fan. The scene where Pink is just sitting tripped out with his cig burned down is taken right out of a time Waters walked in on Syd. And the scene with the groupie in Pink's house thing, when he is tripped out and then freaks out actually happened too.

Distant Echoes 02-16-2005 04:53 PM

Yeah, it becomes pretty evident its about drugs after watching the movie.

But the movie really didnt help me get a better understanding for the album at all. Trust me, i know what the album is about, but the movie was so crazy, i couldnt follow it. (and No, i dont need an explanation from anybody again)

but thats why their pink floyd :)

guitarded_chuck 02-16-2005 04:59 PM

That's true. The movie is almost just as confusing and hard to follow as following the concept from the album.

ledpoisoning27 02-16-2005 05:46 PM

i can't decided on which album i want next by floyd. I either want PATGOD or meddle want cd should i get.

Kingofdudes 02-16-2005 05:46 PM

I would say meddle

lunch998 02-16-2005 05:47 PM

Get both at the same time. No regrets then.

TerryThorne 02-16-2005 06:02 PM
