it's important on how you open your mouth when you sing also.
We need a song with growling...duh.
Advent, now.

Darkness 05-28-2005 10:07 PM

I have a really nice growl, but I can go only for a little while. My friend can go longer but his isn't as good. If you give me about 3 or 4 days I can do a whole song.

Note: I can't do clean vocals, I'm really monotone that way.

Grey Incision 05-28-2005 10:31 PM

guess what people. i can growl and do clean vocals half decent. My guitar playing is up to the mark too:) now................if only i had some recording equipment:(

Darkness 05-28-2005 10:42 PM

Oh yeah, I can do some guitar to.

RouteOne 05-28-2005 10:46 PM

Cowbell.....I can do cowbell.

Darkness 05-28-2005 10:48 PM

I can already tell you will be the most usefull member here. :D

Too bad not many Opeth songs feature the cowbell. :upset:

bball_1523 05-28-2005 11:18 PM

let's do the drapery falls....and let's all contribute to the song.

For example:

Intro Acoustic: person 1
Intro Distortion: person 2
Intro Lead: person 3
Intro drums: person 4
Intro bass: person 5
Verse Acoustic A: person 6
Verse Acoustic B: person 7
etc...etc...

Or we could select several people for one song (drapery falls) then several other person for another song and do multiple covers.

what do you guys think?

I'd definatly be up for that, if i can find a friend with some recording stuff
Pretty good.I can never play it that clean. How'd you get your voice to have that "telephone" effect?
I messed around with something called FFT filters.
Dude, go out and get vocal lessons RIGHT NOW. Your voice is PERFECT for this kind of stuff, and if you could just get it trained for intonation and projection, it'll kick ***. You have a very pleasent timbre to your voice but it's hampered by the improper intonation on the higher notes and also the shyness with which you sing. I'm serious, man. If you get that voice into shape, it'll rock.

And the acoustic sounds great. Very cleanly played. I'm quite impressed, my friend. :thumb:
Wow, thanks for the compliments..!.. And the critiques hehe, I'm getting vocal lessons as soon as I can afford them. Plus I'm doing vocal excersizes as often as I have the time.. Wich isn't often enough.

And I like how you both thought the guitar part was very clean, when it wasn't at all, I just drenched it in reverb so you couldn't hear the mistakes :p

I'll do some growls, I'll try and put up some clips of me tomorrow if I can figure out how to host ****. Also, I'd offer to mix everything if I had internet that wasn't 56k. : (

awesome, i want to hear how others sound when growling, i'm not sure where i'm at with it. If i can find some equipment, i'll post something ok?

denboy 05-29-2005 04:56 AM

I recorded a clip of me growling some of The Drapery Falls just for shits and giggles.. Excuse the guitar track, it lacks alot of punch because.. Well.. I still haven't gotten my electric restrung, so I played the riff on the acoustic! (Man, that riff is killer on the acoustic):

My timing is off, alot..

Right idea, just try forcing more from your gut, it'll make it deeper, but a good voice for melodic death metal maybe :thumb:

Darkness 05-29-2005 11:00 AM

Can I do the last growled verse in the Drapery falls cover?

Darkness 05-29-2005 07:15 PM

Or not...

Deth 05-29-2005 07:52 PM

I play bass, and I can play The Drapery Falls perfectly. I'll need to borrow a mic from a friend, and any advice on recording would be appreciated.

All of the offical threads should do a face off of covers.

RouteOne 05-29-2005 08:27 PM

I was listening to Master's Apprentice and around 5:38 till 5:58 there guitars make an interesting sound. Is that guitar effects or some media they put in?

Deth 05-29-2005 08:33 PM

Let me interupt my Dream Theater to find out.

I'll be back.

I need to get some dream theater......I don't own any. I hear they are really good though.

Deth 05-29-2005 08:35 PM

Sounds like effects. On the Lamentations DVD, Steve Wilson and Mikael fool around with a lot of effects to do stuff like this.

It sounds really errie I like it.

I hear that the new Opeth album will not be produced by Steven Wilson. Is this true?

Deth 05-29-2005 08:43 PM

'Tis True. Don't ask me why either, I love Wilsons production.

Kage 05-29-2005 08:45 PM

It was amazing on BWP. That album sounded so incredible. Wilson is a mastermind.

On Deliverance it was not as good, but still great.

TojesDolan 05-29-2005 08:46 PM

Ok I can make an acoustic... let me see which one and I'd love to contribute in some way. I'll record and put up a link in a few hours.

Personally I think Deliverance is their best album.

It sounds like a combination of e-bow created feedback and a little bit of wah or envelope filter or such.

Here's a little bit of Master's Appretices I threw together and changed a little bit. There's some weird timing issue with my drum machine, and some of the vocals aren't too hot, but I'm far too lazy to fix any of it. And also keep in mind my pop filter (read: a t-shirt) muffles the vocals somewhat.

Darkness 05-29-2005 09:17 PM

That wasn't bad, though it sounds like your holding back your growl.

Cardboard Headgear 05-29-2005 09:36 PM

That's mostly the result of me just half-assing that recording.
