I think Astronomy is one of their worst songs. Even if it is a cover. Right up there with Lover Man.
Cliff 'Em All DVD

I think Garage Days came out in 1987ish? It's just 5 covers.
Garage Inc. came out in 1998.

I like it. I did miss solos though. Why the evil face?

Yea he was. I just got his last solo from the YSI thread. (pg 111?)

That's better, imo

Astronomy? What cd is that? And I wouldn't put Enter Sandman in the top 5. Maybe for popularity...
I like the evil face! it screams Metallica

Britton 07-26-2005 03:24 PM

Yo dudes I just bought the coolest album its by Apocalyptica: plays METALLICA by four cellos........IT IS SOOOO COOL. Ive cn that we hav talked about this b4 but this album is really neat. The cellos play the bass, rythm guitar, another rythm guitar, and another transcribes the notes james hits with his vocals onto the cello. There are 8 songs:Enter Sandman, Master of Puppets, Harvester of Sorrow the Unforgiven, Sad but True, Creeping Death, Wherever I May Roam, and Sanitarium. In m opinion, The Unforgiven is the best one plus, the lead cello does the solos too!!

Track 2. MOP: all cellos are great my fave part is the interlude where the cellos play the ditorted lead/rythm guitar and on does james' solo!

Track 4. The Unforgiven: AMAZING, this fits perfectly for a instrument thats main music is classical. The beginning of the solo is great plaus they play the entire song thru, every part transcribed

These are the only two I wanted to write about cuz i havnt listened to the whole album and they spoke to me the most. This album makes you respect music at hits highest potential and my frends, there will always be endless possibilities in music

Joe 07-26-2005 05:38 PM

I've heard a lot of it and I really like it. It sounds a lot like S&M (and it could possibly be the reason Metallica had the orchestra, I forget when the cellos came out). It's actually very cool and extremely original. They should have done some songs instead of Creeping Death. They should have done Unforgiven II, Fade to Black, NEM, maybe some others.

They did Fade to Black didn't they?

Schecterguitarist 07-26-2005 07:49 PM
They did Fade to Black didn't they?
Unfortunatly no, I'm very surprised metallica doesnt like to do fade to black on some orginal things like S&M or suggesting to Apocalyptica. They only did it on RTL and live. And to amswer GOCAPS99 question, the cellos were released 3 years b4 S&M but it was not metallicas idea to play with the symphony, the conductor, Michael Kamen, came to them with the idea (this was sed by james on the S&M DVD in the documentary part of the DVD).

Joe 07-26-2005 07:51 PM

They don't suggest songs for tribute albums. They didn't do Fade to Black because "they couldn't find a good arrangement" even though that's bull because they did One. As I've said before, the two reasons to not buy S&M are Fade to Black and Sanitarium.

I noticed that inside of the lyric sheet of the kill em all album they say thanx to a former member Ron Mcgovney, not hearing of him b4 i did some research and he is actually the original ORIGINAL bassist to metallica. On their demo no life til leather he is the one playing the bass. I believe that he was Lars' roommate in an apartment

hethamulburton 07-26-2005 08:00 PM

You are correct, he was in the demo years, but quit cause music wasn't something he wanted to do as a career.

Chu 07-26-2005 08:36 PM

I have Apocaltypica or whatever doing Fade To Black xD

He wrote bassline for Hit The Lights, correct?

hethamulburton 07-26-2005 09:08 PM

I know he was a member when it was recorded for Metal Massacre. Hetfield wrote it, I don't know about the bassline, I imagine Ron would've.

emosukscock44 07-26-2005 10:25 PM

Who wrote And Nothing Else Matters. Im guessing hetfield wrote the whole thing.
Even all the parts and the awesome solo(s).

hethamulburton 07-26-2005 10:27 PM

Hetfield wrote it in Canada on tour, I think, on tour, but it was Canada. He presented it to Lars, who of course thought it was great, and boom. I think Kirk had solo responsibility on this one, not sure. But if Lars could, I know he'd claim responsibility that the song was his. Love the SN. :thumb:

Moses 07-26-2005 10:29 PM

Hetfield had the solo I thought.....

hethamulburton 07-26-2005 10:31 PM

Once again, I don't know, but I know he wrote the vast majority of the song, and since it was his song, yea, he prob. wrote the whole thing. In Canada, of course.

Thanks a bunch. Downloading it right now. 120 MB must have taken a while. It takes me like 45 minutes to upload a 70 MB file. :upset:

Travis I recreated the 40 years thread so continue good discussion in there if you like.

PepsiMetal 07-26-2005 11:12 PM

Just watched that drum solo, and thought lars was way better. James' drumming sucked. lol. The beginning when lars started was sweet. Why did you guys say James was better?
