I need to buy some band shirts. I want a Drones one.
Band shirts are overrated.

Buy the music instead, unless it has a sweet design like the Converge shirt I bought.

Luxor 03-13-2006 02:45 PM

I just bought a Taken t-shirt and poster. Good stuff.

Kyle 03-13-2006 03:08 PM

I'd like some more band shirts, but I find most of them have really high necks. I hate wearing t-shirts with high necks....

I have a Clash one which I never wear, it has a high neck..
If there's one movie that almost REQUIRES reading the book beforehand, it's 2001: A Space Odyssey. I understood the ending perfectly but a lot of people didn't, and I realize that it's pretty bizarre to the uninitiated.
Incredibly, I have neither seen the movie nor read the book :upset:.

Glitterati 03-13-2006 04:48 PM

When I first saw the movie it blew my 11-year-old mind.
When I first saw the movie it blew my 11-year-old mind.
I saw it when I was 11 and fell asleep. I still think its the most boring movie I have ever seen.

ATM 03-13-2006 08:46 PM

Argh. I got a parking ticket today. 60 bucks :-(

JonM 03-13-2006 10:48 PM
I saw it when I was 11 and fell asleep. I still think its the most boring movie I have ever seen.
If you make it to the end, you won't think it's boring anymore. If you're baked, you'll think it's terrifying, and it's probably pretty upsetting in general, but I wouldn't know.

br3ad_man 03-14-2006 01:29 AM

The 'death of HAL' scene is amazing. Scariest scene ever.

I find that movie incredible. For some reason, I don't really NEED to know what happened at the end. I'm quite content not to get it.

YDload 03-14-2006 01:35 AM

I can tell you though! It's really not that complicated at all!

br3ad_man 03-14-2006 01:47 AM

Go for it.

Okay here's what happens (SPOILER ALERT!): Dave gets sucked into the black monolith just outside of Saturn (or Jupiter, book/movie have different locations), right? And a bunch of trippy stuff happens? Well when he exits that little wormhole, he's in the home galaxy of the aliens who first sent the monoliths to Earth in order to make the intelligent monkeys into humans some 500,000 years ago (beginning of the film). Well, these aliens have long ago evolved beyond the need for bodies, so they're just kind of PRESENT while Dave comes around to their world. The aliens read his mind and replicate a suitable habitat for him (the hotel room thing). Dave realizes he is sort of a pet or zoo creature to them and decides to just submit and live in the little hotel place. Now here's where the fun begins:

In the book, Dave lies on the bed and goes to sleep. In the movie, the aliens warp time so that Dave dies of old age first. Either way, when Dave sleeps/dies, the aliens take his mind out of his body and create the next step in humanity with him: the StarChild. That's the ominous looking baby who appears next to Earth at the end of the film: it's Dave reborn. In the book, a nuclear war is imminent on Earth, but the Starchild stops the missiles and in both versions, it is just left wondering what to do next with its new found power.

So that's what happens. Obviously, Clarke has a very clear and easy to understand writing style, but when teaming up with Kubrick on the film, they decided to make it more ambiguous so that it would raise questions and make audiences think. Hope this has been helpful.

Snow Day, bitches.
Snow Day, bitches.
It must be ridiculous if there is a snow day in Michigian.

Zappa 03-14-2006 08:57 AM

Yeah, we really never get school cancellations. It has to be a plague of locusts or some shit.

JonM 03-14-2006 08:57 AM
Okay here's what happens... ... ... Hope this has been helpful.
THANK you!

ATM 03-14-2006 08:59 AM

So I am now on my quest to listen to all my mp3's in alphabetical order. I have 18,000 or so left :-D

Zmev 03-14-2006 09:04 AM

You'll be busy for 50+ days.

ATM 03-14-2006 09:04 AM

I just have too much stuff that I've downloaded and never given a proper listen.

JonM 03-14-2006 09:05 AM

I owe it to myself to do the same thing. I have SO MUCH music I haven't listened to.

ATM 03-14-2006 09:10 AM

Yea, and then after I do this I want to delete my crappy music, like you did at one point.

JonM 03-14-2006 09:14 AM

Yeah, it might be time to do that again, in fact. Although I have begun to organize things in a new way that makes filling up the iPod a lot easier, even with more music than it can hold. But I'm sure I've still got some truly bad music taking up space.

Zmev 03-14-2006 09:16 AM

I have both Mars Volta albums on mine, it is deletion time.

JonM 03-14-2006 09:16 AM

When I saw that you posted after what I said, I thought you were gonna make an Iron & Wine joke.

ATM 03-14-2006 09:17 AM

What kind of iPod do you have? I got the 2gig nano, which generally holds just under 400 songs.

Zmev 03-14-2006 09:19 AM
When I saw that you posted after what I said, I thought you were gonna make an Iron & Wine joke.
Ok.

I have stated numerous times that I dig Iron and Wine and love Creek Drank the Cradle, what the hell?

Oh yeah, and I have a 20 gb piece of crap nothing specal ipod.

ATM 03-14-2006 09:21 AM

Ok, to go to school or not to go to school, that is the question

Zmev 03-14-2006 09:22 AM

I didnt go to 4/5ths of my classes yesterday so I have to, only go if you cant get the notes from this class or have a D or lower.

ATM 03-14-2006 09:22 AM
