Alright, what new shit's good and heavy and not too techy.

Unrelated; best Devil Townsend release to start with?
Cough

botb 03-18-2012 08:27 PM

Terria's a good standout you could try, but pretty much everything he's done is awesome, including SYL.

Aaron 03-19-2012 04:18 PM

I love SYL. Gene Hoglan is a big influence. Literally.

Is his stuff meant to be ordered at all?

botb 03-19-2012 07:23 PM

not that i know of, my first solo devin townsend (or devin townsend band) exposure was terria and then accelerated evolution, but definitely check out everything.

ryan_n21 03-28-2012 04:09 AM

I can't stop listening to Woods of Ypres at the moment. Brilliant band.

As far as blackened doom goes;

Black Bile - Cloacal Meditation
Elysian Blaze - Levitating The Carnal
Funeral Mourning - Drown In Solitude

Juddybear 04-26-2012 07:24 PM

Angmar 05-01-2012 12:32 AM

Not looking for any specific musical suggestion, but if anyone would be so kind as to post some good/active blogs for music right now that I might not know about that would be cool. My downloading of new stuff has been a bit lackluster lately and I need to go on a spree, you guys have a general idea of what I like so I trust your judgement.

dUSK 05-03-2012 04:42 AM

What Hate Forest albums should I start with? Never really given them a listen.

Juddybear 05-03-2012 11:17 AM

the most ancient ones

jesuscrust 05-04-2012 02:19 PM

so like the first ones?

Juddybear 05-04-2012 02:49 PM

i'm fixin' to rape you

Ca5bah 05-05-2012 01:00 PM

I'm looking for more ambient/dark noise stuff similar to Tim Hecker and SoiSong.

Haz 05-05-2012 08:02 PM

never listened to either of those but some of my favourite dark ambient is -

Halo Manash - SYoMA
Archon Satani - Mind of Flesh & Bones
Dead Can Dance - Within the Realm of a Dying Sun
Lustmord - Heresy
Ben Frost - Theory of Machines
Current 93 - Imperium
Autopsia - Palladium
7 From Life - Souls Of Dead Sharks
Artefactum - Rosarium Hermeticum
Atrium Carceri - Cellblock
Moëvöt - Abgzvoryathre
:zoviet*france: - Popular Soviet Songs and Youth Music
Allegory Chapel Ltd. - Trip

Juddybear 05-05-2012 08:05 PM

i back moevot hard

DBlitz 05-05-2012 09:17 PM

tim hecker isn't dark ambient tho, dunno what the other one is. he has a pretty large discog though, so probably best to grab more hecker albums.

also check out: belong - october language

and maybe: yellow swans - going places

Ca5bah 05-05-2012 10:53 PM

alright, thanks. i'll take a peek.

Ca5bah 05-05-2012 11:15 PM

Haz 05-15-2012 07:16 AM
so far I'm really enjoying Atrium Carceri
check out other artists off of the Cold Meat Industry label

Geadom 05-19-2012 11:03 AM

Recommend me some weird / original but classic DM / Thrash. Something on the lines of:

Atheist
Death
Demilich
Nocturnus
Gorguts
Aspid
Coroner
Cynic
Watchtower
Meshuggah

etc.

Juddybear 05-19-2012 02:41 PM

sororicide - the entity

musicallgenres 05-21-2012 01:00 PM

Finding Clyde

Pretty sick band, I'd say. Check them out here on Facebook with their single "Get Higher" http://on.fb.me/KqEBVn

Morumbar 06-18-2012 10:47 AM

Can you guys rec me some "epic" sounding heavy/power metal with an 80's kind of sound and vocals that aren't super gay?

Tyler 06-18-2012 12:22 PM
Can you guys rec me some "epic" sounding heavy/power metal with an 80's kind of sound and vocals that aren't super gay?
Manilla Road. Vocals can be a bit peculiar but they're far from super gay, I'd say.

illmitch 06-18-2012 12:38 PM

fuck yeah manilla road

also try Brocas Helm, Omen, Attacker, old Jag Panzer

you could also look into NWOBHM like Satan, Atomkraft, Jaguar, Tank, etc

Morumbar 06-18-2012 12:48 PM

Cheers, dudes. I've heard a song or two from Manilla Road on Youtube before, but never looked into them. Same goes for Jag Panzer, I suppose.

Will check these out.

illmitch 06-18-2012 12:49 PM

Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction is elite as fuck

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inqhnv4i_3k

Morumbar 06-18-2012 01:21 PM

Sounds good.

Just realised I'd come across most of these and more in the same vein in this article a month or so ago:
http://www.pinpointmusic.com/tape-wyrm-xxi-uspm/

Think I'm just gonna go delve into USPM for a while.

illmitch 06-18-2012 01:45 PM

yeah that list is excellent

christsimpson 06-19-2012 05:42 AM

only slightly on topic but Manilla Road are amazing, especially Crystal Logic.

joeker19lc 07-28-2012 01:34 PM

Give Us Your Bones is a really new band with a free EP on bandcamp. They're all nice dudes too. It's kind of like At The Drive-In mixed with post-rock and some pop-punk, i know that makes no sense.

kitsch 07-28-2012 08:50 PM
I'm looking for more ambient/dark noise stuff similar to Tim Hecker and SoiSong.
dante augustus scarlatti

you wont be disappoint

HighandDriving 07-28-2012 09:14 PM

Kitsch, fuck you and think of a good american post-punk revival band to rec me, please.
