I don't have slsk and I avoid torrenting at all costs.

Too much hassle.

Riva 11-22-2007 07:50 PM

Guys, leave Mappy alone.

Invicta_Veritas 11-22-2007 07:51 PM

That's Matt?

i am the robots 11-22-2007 07:52 PM

Jason, I hate you.

Riva 11-22-2007 07:52 PM

No I just felt like posting "Guys, leave Mappy alone." randomly, because I have internet Tourette's.

EDIT: It was pretty much the worst trolling I've seen on these boards, ever, Mappy.

Silenius 11-22-2007 07:53 PM

Shoulda guessed, the Mayhem reference should have given it away.

that was sort of the point

Invicta_Veritas 11-22-2007 07:55 PM

Dammit. The "As Blood Runs Black" comment makes sense now.

My next album is going to be a monumental modern black metal release. I just know it.

Why do you say this?

Silenius 11-22-2007 11:47 PM

This Elffor is really damn good. Summoning fans, go track down some Elffor! ;)
Why do you say this?
I don't really; I was kinda just being egotistical for a second.

The more I think about my music, the more I realize that it's not that great. I just don't know what to improve upon specifically.

It is getting better though.

Tyler 11-22-2007 11:59 PM
It is getting better though.
It is. Your biggest problem is you seem unsure of what direction you want to go on. That plus some technical hiccups are your biggest hurdles.

Silenius 11-23-2007 12:01 AM

Steps for improving your own music -

1) Listen to the music a lot after you record it (rough mix)
2) Make changes to instruments/add layers/change structures
3) Improve recording quality/invest in good equipment

This generally holds true though it is less applicable to black metal.

Invicta_Veritas 11-23-2007 12:06 AM

Since I made the changeover to black metal (breaking away from the melodic death of my first two EPs), everything has improved enormously and I feel much more comfortable with the material.

A big part of things is that I take everything seriously and am oversensitive to criticism. I think that's hurt the material a lot. Plus, someday I hope to find a drummer that's a human being and not a computer.

Silenius 11-23-2007 12:08 AM

Criticism is your best friend. Obviously you like the music you are making, but the only way you can get a somewhat objective picture of your music is by getting other peoples opinions.

Apocalyptic Raids 11-23-2007 12:12 AM

It would also really help if you got a drummer. Programmed drums suck.

NemesisDivina 11-23-2007 12:13 AM
It would also really help if you got a drummer. Programmed drums suck.
agreed 100%

i've only really liked one band ever that's had programmed drums.

Invicta_Veritas 11-23-2007 12:13 AM

^^^as I just pointed out.

It's been difficult to find a Frost-level drummer though. I refuse to rewrite my songs because I can't find a drummer that can play above 220bpm.

Silenius 11-23-2007 12:14 AM

Yeah but drums are really a lot more expensive than anything else so there are less drummers out there. Plus, have you ever tried recording drums? Biggest pain in the arse ever, you need shitloads of mics and great software to make them sound alright.

btw, you're not gonna find anyone who can play above 220 bpm on every song, those people will probably be professional musicians.

Let me guess Nemesis - the one band would be Summoning? :p

RiceMonster 11-23-2007 12:19 AM

I play with a drummer who doesn't play over 220 bpm. but then again, we don't want to play that fast 'cause that would be gay. Plus, we don't even play metal.

Invicta_Veritas 11-23-2007 12:19 AM

Exactly.

i am the robots 11-23-2007 12:19 AM

Vhyskt = really good programmed drums. The kid basically spends like hours writing the drum parts.

NemesisDivina 11-23-2007 12:21 AM
Let me guess Nemesis - the one band would be Summoning? :p
Whoops, forgot about them, haha. That would make it 2 bands then... Summoning and Crebain. And I like Godflesh but I don't really count them.

Silenius 11-23-2007 12:21 AM

I know tons of people who can program good parts. The problem isn't that, it's usually patching sounds and mixing them that is the pain in the ***, making it sound like a real kit for me.

pretentious post-faggotry amirite

RiceMonster 11-23-2007 12:23 AM

I've recorded tons of songs with programmed drums. it doesn't sound nearly as good as real drums. Even if you could get it to sound good it wouldn't be as good.
pretentious arty large bundle of sticks rock amirite
No way, ultra-super-mega-pretentious. duh.

Invicta_Veritas 11-23-2007 12:23 AM

Therein lies the problem.

Eliminator 11-23-2007 12:25 AM

bra have you ever been in a real band

Invicta_Veritas 11-23-2007 12:25 AM

I've been in several. I started this solo project because the last few bands I've been in were hardcore bands, and I wanted to do death and black metal. The other guys wouldn't budge, so I left time and again..

Silenius 11-23-2007 12:27 AM

I agree, I'm in an actual full band right now that has drums, bass, and two guitars and the real drums are definitely nice, paired with a good drummer being behind them.

Eliminator 11-23-2007 12:27 AM

did you quit because the drummer couldn't play at 220

Invicta_Veritas 11-23-2007 12:28 AM

No, as I said, I quit because they wanted to play hardcore or thrash (depending on which band we're talking about) and I wanted to play heavier/more extreme stuff.

Eliminator 11-23-2007 12:29 AM

xtreme tempoz

Niflheim 11-23-2007 07:25 AM

Programmed drums suck unless they are done well with good samples and buried or if they aren't trying to emulate real drums.

Pete 11-23-2007 07:47 AM

fück... i'm dead

What kind of **** are you guys playing? My band's just a three piece right now; drums/bass/guitar. We want to get another member when we find the right person, preferably keyboards.
