I heard Converge after a lot of generic trash, but I realized how much better they were too.

DJTeeLay 09-10-2007 07:00 PM

Just because it's generic, that doesn't mean it's not good.
It just means it has a lot of space for improvement.

Converge is really good, though.

i am the robots 09-10-2007 07:05 PM

Indeed they are.

Dead Man In Reno is real generic, but I think improvement is unnecessary, but it would be welcome, like, holy **** welcome.

DJTeeLay 09-10-2007 07:09 PM

I mean, I think Norma Jean (Everything without Josh Scogin) blatantly ripped off Botch, but I like Botch, so in return I like Norma Jean.

Okay, they didn't rip them off, but the influence is too huge to be a coincidence.

i am the robots 09-10-2007 07:11 PM

That's how I feel on Norma Jean as well.

illpressureurhinges1 09-10-2007 07:31 PM

Norma Jean may have a very strong influence from Botch, but you got to admit its still some pretty good stuff

i am the robots 09-10-2007 08:17 PM

I like them.

As did I.

RunAmokRampant 09-11-2007 05:59 AM

I have officially found the worst metalcore band ever.

Drop Dead Gorgeous.

Yuck.

antihippy 09-11-2007 06:02 AM

guys, go listen to perth express.

I would only admit that if I were retarded and had 17% of my hearing.

Yeah, they're terrible. My friends asked me to come see them, and I was like, "that band sucks," and they were all like, "you're kidding right?" and I was all like, "nope, lol."

Intronaut on the otherhand is fucking awesome.

Intronaut! :D

i am the robots 09-11-2007 08:30 PM

They're so freaking good.

I never thought I'd hear a metalcore band that reminds me of Opeth at points.

ROFL

margin0walker 09-11-2007 09:02 PM

they were ok with their old singer but their new singer is a faggot

i am the robots 09-11-2007 09:02 PM
ROFL
I dunno dude, I sort of agree.

Txus 09-11-2007 09:07 PM

I'm a DEP fanboy so yeah...

Why don't you like them, Matt?

i am the robots 09-11-2007 09:16 PM

I dunno, I just don't enjoy them for some reason.

It's nothing specific about them.

Not very related Orphaned off of No Heroes is such a good song, it's like, Converge + Hot Cross guitarwork.

Txus 09-11-2007 09:27 PM

Any of you guys like RAMBO?

i am the robots 09-11-2007 09:28 PM

I used to listen to them, but I honestly haven't heard a song by them in like two years. One of the bands I forgot to redownload when my old computer died.

Txus 09-11-2007 09:31 PM

I just ralize they dont even belong in her, haha. I still need to download some more stuff from them, great band.

i am the robots 09-11-2007 09:35 PM

Yeah, crossover. But they're great. I was gonna go to their last show with an ex, but then she was like, lolz nevermind my dad won't let me, and she was my ride. :(

Txus 09-11-2007 09:42 PM

haha, i bet they are awesome live. Another band I love in the same vein is Limp Wrist

i am the robots 09-11-2007 09:52 PM

Eh, I wouldn't really put RAMBO and Limp Wrist in the same vein, but both are freaking awesome.

One time I saw RAMBO there was a kid in a wheelchair in the pit hitting people with a skateboard.

There shows were intense:

Also, my buddy Johny's old band This Bites used to play shows with them.

If you like Limp Wrist, check out Los Crudos.

Txus 09-11-2007 09:54 PM

Yeah, I love Los Crudos...they share members, right?

i am the robots 09-11-2007 09:55 PM

Singer. That guy has one of the best hardcore voices I've heard.

More people should imitate that style rather than tough guy trash.

2muchket! 09-12-2007 08:34 AM

Carpathian has the best hardcore vocals I've heard.

RunAmokRampant 09-12-2007 08:36 AM
I dunno dude, I sort of agree.
YOu heard the new song? He sounds different, more raspy.

RetiredAt21 09-12-2007 09:41 AM

RAMBO is good. Tragedy is better, though.

Sanford 09-12-2007 12:42 PM

Unearth is some good shit.
Great crushing melodic riffs and one badass drummer.

masscows 09-12-2007 01:33 PM

Unearth is good stuff.

DerMond 09-12-2007 01:35 PM

Unearth's too mechanical in their approach and their music's a bit too obtuse for me to say i LIKE them. i tolerate them.

RetiredAt21 09-12-2007 01:51 PM

Unearth is horrible.

masscows 09-12-2007 01:53 PM

I don't like The Oncoming Storm, but their other ones are good.

i am the robots 09-12-2007 02:19 PM

Zombie Autopilot son, y'all betta represent!

The most recent Unearth sorta bored me after a week though.

I remember listening to it on the way to band practice after school last year cause our guitarist was my ride, and it triggered me to burn him a bunch of melodeath because I got sick of the melodeath clone core bands.

masscows 09-12-2007 02:25 PM

that one's ok, and and opener is alright (the great dividers i think).

But Stings of Conscience is a fine example of what melodic metalcore should be like-imaginative riffs and songwriting that feels like it has direction (instead of the cliche'd verse-chorus-verse-chorus-breakdown formula that way too many bands use), great dynamics, lots of variation, well-executed breakdowns etc.

III: In the Eyes of Fire basically left most of their -core behind and picked up some thrashy and groove influences while still keeping their breakdowns in place. My main complaint about that album is that most of the breakdowns are almost exactly the same, unlike on stings of conscience, where the breakdowns never felt the same on any of the tracks. There are also like 3 songs on the album that are so bad I can't bear to listen to, but the rest are pretty sah-weet.

i am the robots 09-12-2007 02:27 PM

Actually, Stings Of Conscience seems terribly written to me, even if I love the album.

Bands like Opeth and From Graves Of Valor know how to write "unsctructured" but a lot of bands don't seem to.

I don't like the new one. =/
