Last two times I have seen them, one right before and one right after new wave, were still some of the greatest ****ing experiences ever. I still think they are one of the best bands to come out of the last few years.

Teeb 12-11-2007 10:13 AM
i still like new wave. i even like a few foo's songs. maybe they are big foo's fans, if i got offered to play with the chili peppers or something i'd do it even if it meant i had to play an arena...
no it wasn't their only choice to sign, but it was definately in their best interests as a band and like andrew said, it doesn't matter f'uck all as long as they keep making good music.
I can see how it was in their best interest to sign. I guess it all comes down to what they value more; money or ideals. Their early work suggested that it was ideals, but their later actions clearly show that it is money. This is where the dissapointment stems from.

Ghostfire3 12-11-2007 11:03 AM

Oh, they still have ideals. It's just that their ideals happen to revolve around making as much money possible.

mullets suk 12-11-2007 01:38 PM

lulz at white people for peace on a cellphone commercial.

SkaRobotArmy 12-11-2007 04:18 PM

i'm doing my best to defend them but they're making it really fu'cking hard. I know what you mean teeb, but the music still suggests these values exist, they're just going about it in a different way?

Teeb 12-11-2007 04:35 PM

I recognize that their ideals still exist to some extent, but i would say they're actions still suggest they value money more.

Converge#12 12-11-2007 04:53 PM

They were on the hills on MTV. They have officially been denied as a band with any morals or ideals

mullets suk 12-11-2007 04:57 PM

my questions is, how much of this is them and how much is the record label. some would say that they should just quit, but they cant, unless they want to get slapped with a lawsuit.
my questions is, how much of this is them and how much is the record label. some would say that they should just quit, but they cant, unless they want to get slapped with a lawsuit.
On the contrary couldnt they royally eff up and have the company break the contract if I remember right.

Pirate Satellite 12-11-2007 05:26 PM

It's astonishing that people are still so disappointed in the band. This isn't really a further deterioration of their former ideals, this is just pretty much the same sort of stuff that they've been up to for the last two records. Their music is played in American Eagle. They opened for Green Day. They are probably in Alternative Press and Rolling Stone. They have made it clear that they don't stand for the same things they used to. I could understand being upset about it two years ago, but really, I'm sure there are more deserving whipping boys...

I'm just miffed because I liked their old music better, but as for the people, I have no reason to believe that they were or weren't lying in the first place. They really have no responsibility to any of us.

Flagjacket 12-11-2007 06:03 PM

It is really silly to invest a lot of yourself in any musical act.

Having a strong opinion of Against Me! feels like a punk rock fashion trend to me.

Bukowski 12-11-2007 06:18 PM

Against Me's first two albums, and concurrent EPs, are ****ing great.

The last two albums have been ****.

I don't like them now because the music is boring, and they lost the lo-fi, raw, passionate sound which made them distinctive to me (at the time) within punk music. I don't care that they sold out, they're still great live and Warren has some excellent facial hair. HOWEVER, this band is done making good music. Time to stop flogging a dead horse. Move on. Find better music. When I am 50 I might put on Reinventing Axl Rose and reminisce about how much I loved this band when I was 15. About getting drunk and seeing them the night before my HIGHER MATHS EXAM. I was that punk rock.

I'm just surprised to see people still spewing the same **** about this band. How much can you say about them? If you like the music just enjoy it and stop bitching. Have some dip.

Twin Human Highway Flares 12-11-2007 06:20 PM

People are seriously still talking about this? People have been bitching about AM! selling out since ATEC. It's getting really old. Yeah, it'd be nice if they were still like they used to be but they aren't. Let em be what they want to be and leave em the f'uck alone.

mullets suk 12-11-2007 06:43 PM
they're still great live and Warren has some excellent facial hair.
i think we can all agree to this statement, more so the latter then the former. :p

Ghostfire3 12-11-2007 09:49 PM
i'm doing my best to defend them but they're making it really fu'cking hard. I know what you mean teeb, but the music still suggests these values exist, they're just going about it in a different way?
That was the poorest excuse for a defense I've heard. Just because a band's music "suggests" something doesn't mean they truly believe in what they're saying.

SkaRobotArmy 12-12-2007 12:57 AM

i didn't say that's why i defend them, i'm just putting stuff out there.

Win A Rabbit 12-12-2007 01:16 AM

My only question is, why did they have to put the "bop bop bop" part in Thrash Unreal?

I get embarassed when I hear them bop bop bop.

mullets suk 12-12-2007 05:17 AM

i like that part <<>>

SkaRobotArmy 12-12-2007 09:41 AM

yea, wouldn't be the same without it.
Oh, they still have ideals. It's just that their ideals happen to revolve around making as much money possible.
Ehhh. That's debatable, and by "debatable" I mean that's liable to have your head smashed on a table.
lulz at white people for peace on a cellphone commercial.
What? Gross.

Cliche 12-14-2007 07:50 PM

Pretty sure Daniel J. Travanti from The Briefs said it best when he said that signing to a major record label and taking as much money from them as possible is a much more punk thing to do than to just bitch about them.

TakeWarning 12-14-2007 08:21 PM

But then again, it's not like major record labels are short on money (usually), so what does it matter to them?

And the label would probably make more money from the band than the band would from the label.

Flagjacket 12-14-2007 09:18 PM

Yeah like when people say Rage was on a major but it was ok because they took their money and gave it to radical groups, it doesn't change the fact that they made Sony and it's corporate family like 500 times more than they recieved.

lynch_me 12-14-2007 09:45 PM

Tom gabel seems like a douche in this new interview:

The argument the punk scene is making about mainstream culture is totally irrelevant now -- technology is changing everything, and they're still talking about $5 shows and seven-inch records. . We wanted the album to be polarizing, we wanted it to break us out of being stuck as just a punk band, but it's taking some time.

18 year old tom gabel would hate the 24 year old tome gabel

Ghostfire3 12-14-2007 10:36 PM

No, not really. And when did I mention anything about them not being "punk" enough? I said that their ideals have changed, not that they stopped being "punk."

And that theory doesn't even make sense because they're not taking money from their major lable. They're making money for it.

asdf 12-15-2007 02:13 AM

If you told me all of this when I was 15 I never would have believed it.

obese_breasts 12-15-2007 02:40 AM

They're ****in' psychics, I swear

stalemate 12-15-2007 07:27 AM

I saw Against Me! in Oslo about two months ago, together with Future of the Left (which was really cool!) and Steriogram (Which wasn't good at all). Against Me! was really great guys, we hooked up and they put me and some friends on the guestlist because the show was sold out, and we got to talk a bit, they seemed really honest and down to earth, no rockstar to spot there. And the show was cool, mostly New Wave songs, 3-4 songs of Reinventing Axl Rose and some Searching For A Former Clarity, but the bumper at the show was a real asshole. Wish I got to see them on the tour with Sage Francis.

^ Saw against me on MTV and decided to check them out.

Flagjacket 12-15-2007 03:38 PM

Liking Sage Francis really should be a punishable offense.

SkaRobotArmy 12-15-2007 04:19 PM

because he's intelligent and thought provoking? or a great writer? or because he makes catchy music? i mean they are all pretty terrible offenses...

AndreTheHyena 12-15-2007 07:38 PM
18 year old tom gabel would hate the 24 year old tome gabel
I think the same could be said for me, or most people involved in the punk scene.

obese_breasts 12-15-2007 09:53 PM

15 year old me would seriously question my music tastes currently

Flagjacket 12-16-2007 09:09 AM

Yeah and five years from now the five years older you will probably think lowly of the you now. It's called growing up and changing.

Anarcho Poser 12-16-2007 09:44 AM

who cares, honestly.

my friend is a big foo fighters fan, so we're going. it will be good times with good people.
Yeah and five years from now the five years older you will probably think lowly of the you now. It's called growing up and changing.

i hope you hit this stage some day.
lol I hope you reach the stage where everyone stops thinking you're a fag.

And you dedicate yourself to ska, which is a genre of music that's found it's most long term impact in the format of theme music for children's TV shows. What growing up have you done?

mullets suk 12-16-2007 06:45 PM
Liking Sage Francis really should be a punishable offense.
lol i agree. he may be a good song writer (i dont see it), but come on a fat white rapper out from the ghettos of rhode island is laughable thing.

Flagjacket 12-16-2007 06:52 PM

Sage Francis has about as much to do with hip-hop or listenable music in general as rolling pins have to do with spaceships.
Sage Francis has about as much to do with hip-hop or listenable music in general as rolling pins have to do with spaceships.
i've beat down some pretty big spaceships with my rolling pin...

what kids tv shows have a ska theme? i'm intrigued...
thanks though, i love when people respond with 'yea well your a fag' and the like because it means i win.
