I don't see the big deal with any of the doom bands any body mentions lately....sounds like lame, sluggish crap to me...what happened to the stoner band chat?

pate 04-27-2007 05:44 PM

Most stoner is lame, slightly-less-sluggish crap.

Phototropic 04-27-2007 05:51 PM

hardly...i don't understand how they go in this thread thats all...theres kyuss, wizard, orange goblin, colour haze, nebula etc, all riffage, pyschedelic in parts but the stuff you guys talk about is very different from that...

repcak 04-27-2007 06:06 PM

don't you think that Anathemas song "Deep" is one of their best?

This thread is for stoner and doom metal, not just "stoner/doom metal"
Saint Vitus are awesome, Wino comes into my work all the time (which I have bragged about a million times) :D
Really? That'd be awesome, where do you work?

pate 04-27-2007 08:24 PM

Music store of some sort.

rippa32 04-27-2007 10:19 PM

Well, I guessed that, I was just interested in what sort of music store Wino would go to. Wow that sounded a lot creepoer than it meant to be.

Txus 04-27-2007 11:41 PM

Drawing Down The Sun is one of the best Doom albums I've heard.
don't you think that Anathemas song "Deep" is one of their best?
What album is it on?
I've only got Pentecost III, Serenades, Crestfallen and The Silent Enigma.
Can't go past Pentecost, that's a classic. Mine Is Yours to Drown In is a ripper.
This thread is for stoner and doom metal, not just "stoner/doom metal"
Yeah, but why were these genres ever grouped together as a thread in the first place?

Royd Rage 04-28-2007 07:48 AM

can someone post some music by the gates of slumber again?

i have been putting off downloading it and forgot about link in my rep disappearing. :(

Iron Bars 04-28-2007 08:01 AM
Yeah, but why were these genres ever grouped together as a thread in the first place?
Same origin, and overlap in styles.

Phototropic 04-28-2007 08:13 AM
Yeah, but why were these genres ever grouped together as a thread in the first place?
exactly my point

and i'd hardly say they overlap...they're nothing alike

Kyle, u still in Cardiff? u gonna see bomb the sun tonight?

Poofy 666 04-28-2007 09:24 AM
I remebered listening to their album some time back so I just listened to it again. They'll be on my to watch list for sure.

Drawing Down The Sun is one of the best Doom albums I've heard.
Yeah, I like the vocals. Very good album.

Royd Rage 04-28-2007 01:41 PM
Yeah, but why were these genres ever grouped together as a thread in the first place?
yeah if anything i thought that stoner would go more with sludge than doom.

pate 04-28-2007 02:42 PM

Sludge and doom are very close as well.

Royd Rage 04-28-2007 02:51 PM

goddamn confusing sub genres!

RetiredAt21 04-28-2007 03:27 PM

I love sludge. Noothgrush FTW.

one,i didn't even ask for an album, just some songs to get an idea of the sound. someone gave me the album without me asking.

two,if bands who are trying to get their music out there would have the ****ing music set to download than i wouldn't even have to ask.

****er.

 calm down...?

the bands that are on tiny independently run labels, depend on people buying the CDs to survive...so if you really like them its a good thing to do to help them out

Royd Rage 04-29-2007 11:41 AM

ARE YOU NOT ****ING LISTENING!

i haven't even heard anything by them. someone was mentioning them and i was going to check them out. i went to myspace but the player didn't work so i asked for a few songs. someone uploaded an album. i just want to see if someone can reupload it or can they just put up a few songs.

Wow...

Nepenthe 04-29-2007 11:48 AM

I think this problem runs deeper than music uploading.

Royd Rage 04-29-2007 12:03 PM

yeah it does.

way deeper...

i apologize.

ATM 04-29-2007 12:07 PM

Why are you getting so wound up over a forum? Relax, man.

Royd Rage 04-29-2007 12:11 PM

it is not about the forum.

I basically am going nuts.

sooooooo...

yeah this is not my blog so we return you to your regular stoner/doom talk now.

sorry again.

Phototropic 04-29-2007 01:05 PM

Kage 04-29-2007 01:19 PM

It's aight, Roy.

One of a Kind 04-29-2007 01:20 PM

pixiesfanyo 04-29-2007 11:41 PM

Jondur 05-01-2007 03:22 AM
You aren't the internet police. Piss off yourself.
No I'm not but I have experienced being in a band and trying to get the money together to record and release music. For example, the first MCD I did with one band sold well and the money we made from that allowed us to go to Academy Studios with Mags and record another one. The second MCD got much better reviews, more people came to the gigs, more people were talking about us and raving about the CD but yet somehow we sold less. What happened? Three years and Soulseek.

I know many people who run small labels (you know, the labels that we rely to release the music we love - not Nuclear Blast etc) and they've all told me how much sales have gone down and how much they're struggling to make enough money to release records now.

This stuff really gets to me - to me its the equivalent of seeing some pretty flowers in a garden, ripping them out of the ground to take home - yes now you may have some pretty flowers but next time you go back there won't be any flowers. Crap analogy maybe, but if you love the music then you really have to support it.

I picked on Txus then partly as a joke because if you don't buy "Drawing down the Sun" I don't get any royalties!

Roy: I apologise if I misunderstood you. I wholeheartedly agree that Myspace is gayer than Elton John's favourite vase and wish bands would go back to having proper websites. I reckon you can take a risk with The Gates of Slumber though - if you like proper heavy metal with doomy elements, cues from Manowar and Cirith Ungol then I promise you will like them.

Royd Rage 05-01-2007 04:39 AM

i understand. my interest though is not to steal music. i just wanted to hear something before i buy it and it is hard when they only have one place for clips and that place doesn't work for me.

i'm not one of these people that just downloads all and puts it on their Ipod. i have dial-up and no mp3 player. so most of my stuff comes from actual albums.

rippa32 05-01-2007 07:40 AM

I totally understand what you mean. I often download the odd song to get a feel and if I was a recording artist that would never bother me. But I have seen people download entire albums and discographies at a time (even dial-up for one of them) and it really pisses me off, and they reason that they have enough money already. But doom metal bands and other bands that arn't so mainstream are vary rarely "rich".

Jondur 05-01-2007 07:49 AM

But then again there artists who happily offer up their music for free download and in those cases you should go for your life. And here's a great example:

http://www.againstnature.us/BH/Artists/Argus/Argus.htm

Argus are the new band of ex-Penance vocalist Butch Ballich. Not wholly doom but all heavy metal with doomy elements and massive vocals. Enjoy!!

ATM 05-01-2007 07:56 AM

Sounds cool, thanks.
Mael Mórdha anyone? haha They're excellent Celtic Doom Metal from Ireland. I suggest you check out any of their ****, as all of it is good.
Yeah, I like them, very good stuff.
I enjoy the fact that it's not just celtic stuff, but also some straight up metal.
A lot of bands that wander off into a certain style (like Celtic, Gothic etc) seem to put the fact that they're metal in second place and just play with stylistic elements for the sake of it and not because it fits the music.

ATM 05-01-2007 07:59 AM

Hey man, how's Norway?
