The projection crashes are not that thick at all. Medium-thins.
|
Anyone ever heard of Saluda cymbals if so tell me what you think about them...
Thanks Snarz |
My 18" Projection takes an arm of steel go get a full sound, I don't really like it much, has a really high profile/bell.
|
the projection crashes are really thick. the stage crash is a thinner cymbal. might not meld. the dark crash im not sure about.
ok, last question (AGAIN). So, you know that cymbals fit together when their thickness is similar? |
Which one: K custom ride, K ride, or Paiste Rude ride? All 20". Needs versatility.

id go with a k ride, k heavy ride. |
ok, last question (AGAIN). So, you know that cymbals fit together when their thickness is similar?
not necesarily. but generally cymbals of the same size and thickness will meld together abit better. some people like bigger or smaller cymbals though. i personally like 16" thin crashes. 16" aaxplosion 16" HHXtreme 16" HHX evolution etc etc, like that. it all depends on what you like the sound of, versus the feel of the cymbal, versus the type of music you play. heavier music will want brighter, softer will want darker tones. etc etc. |
Which one: K custom ride, K ride, or Paiste Rude ride? All 20". Needs versatility.
the paiste rude is totally different sounding than the other two. the paiste rude has lots of projection with a whole lot of ping, the k customs are more tonal rides. |
^and it ain't to versitile(the rude) 22'' K Heavy ride ftw
|
whats ftw stand for?
the heavy ride has nice overtones, but i dont think its prominent enough in the music. |
i belive ftw stands for For The Win, or atleast that is my understanding
|
How would this crash setup work?
15" K Custom 16" HHXPlosion 17" HHXPlosion 18" Stage 19" Vault 20" Stage |
sounds very nice to me HHXplosions are great, stage crashes are great, i love big vaults, and i'm not to sure about the 15'', but i know K customs in general are good, so i'm sure it won't suck
|
How would this crash setup work?
15" K Custom 16" HHXPlosion 17" HHXPlosion 18" Stage 19" Vault 20" Stage
do you mean the HHX stage crashes? if so that looks like a great crash setup. Probably wouldnt be as good if they were AAX's so id say HHX :D. |
i would probably raise the k custom to a 16"
thats about it. the stages are a good bit louder than the other crashes. |
heavier music will want brighter, softer will want darker tones. etc etc.
are you serious? I guess I better look for brighter cymbals...
i belive ftw stands for For The Win, or atleast that is my understanding
mmmhmm, that's what it's for. |
are you serious? I guess I better look for brighter cymbals...
mmmhmm, that's what it's for.
Yeah, but its a bit of a paradox. For heavy music, you're not gonna be able to hit them very hard at speed, so what I'd suggest is bigger, but fairly thin cymbals, like 18", 19" Vaults, Stages, etc. |
i have a k custom 18" crash, and my next buy will be an a custom proj crash.. they sound very alike..
|
^Not in my experience!
|
are you serious? I guess I better look for brighter cymbals...
its not a rule or anything just guidelines, heavier music usually wants the drumming to stand out abit, where in jazz and etc its abit more about expression. im not very happy with my 20" projection crash, mighty loud, but it doesnt meld with any of my other crashes. sure there HHX evo's. but thats not the point  its a nice aux ride though, ontop of it being a good crash with others of the same size. just not the most manuverable crash ever. |
Ok, let's try this again, but only with the crashes:
18" A Thin Crash 17" AAXplosion Crash 16" Vault Crash Opinions? C&C appreciated |
Im looking for a much cheaper alternative to Mike Portnoys Max Stax range. Are there any cymbals or cymbal stacks that could produce a similar sound but for a much lower price? I also think that MP's stax are heavily eq'd on the albums and that the psund in real life is fairly different so im looking for a sound similar to the DT albums.

stack any 2 cymbals and youll get that sound. Just stack some cheap wuhans man. wuhan 12inch china on top of a 14inch crash or something. |

18" A Thin Crash 18" AAXplosion Crash 16" Vault Crash Opinions? C&C appreciated
fix'd |
the projection crashes are really thick. the stage crash is a thinner cymbal. might not meld. the dark crash im not sure about.
I never noticed this post before. Projections are Medium Thin, Stage's are Medium...
|
fix'd
ok, so the main crash is gonna be the AAXplosion and the crash on my right would be the a thin crash and the crash on the left of my hi hats would be the vault. Good enough? |
I never noticed this post before. Projections are Medium Thin, Stage's are Medium...
No, Stages are medium-thin also, according to their 2005-2006 catalog. |
I never noticed this post before. Projections are Medium Thin, Stage's are Medium...
my 20" is a good bit heavier and thicker than a rock crash man. stages are probably more medium thin than the projection's. |
Hmm... I stand corrected, I always thought it was Studio = Thin, Stage = Medium. I guess I need to read up a little more on Sabian, don't know them quite as well as Zildjian I suppose. Sorry for posting information that is apparently wrong guys!
|
i forgive you. your a canadian, so all is well.
|
 Styler man, thats mean
|
shuttup you brit!
ilu DAMMIT! i keep missing my posts. i hit 2000. dammmmmiiittt. |
Then whats the difference between Studio and Stage? and isnt Projection a Zildjian title
|
stack any 2 cymbals and youll get that sound. Just stack some cheap wuhans man. wuhan 12inch china on top of a 14inch crash or something.
I know it sounds stupid but whats the correct way to stack cymbals? Do you literally just put 1 on top of the other or do they need to be seperated by felt? And how would 2 crashes stacked different from a china/crash combo? |
i dont know the difference off by heart.
www.sabian.com if you wanna find out. projection is a zildjian type of crash. there isnt really a set way to stack them. if there cheaper cymbals removing the felt might get a more desired sound. if there higher quality more pricey cymbals you might wanna put the felt on them just to extend the life of them. |
I tried sabian xs20s 2day. and i didn't find anything wrong with them. whats your opinions?
|
I tried sabian xs20s 2day. and i didn't find anything wrong with them. whats your opinions?
When I started I got XS20s. They were ok. Then when I upgraded to AAs and AAXs I realised that I should have just bought them from the beginning instead of wasting $300 on the XS20 pack. They are decent for starting out on though. Better than B8s. ProSonix would be better but I think they might have discontinued that line. |
A ping ride below 600$$ Australian
A ping ride below 600$$ Australian
What is your question? |
well, either he wants a link to a place where he can get an A ping ride for under 600, or he wants to know a good ping ride for under 600, in which case i recommend the Zildjian A Ping Ride or sabian's neil peart sig paragon ride
