The case. I know it's replaceable but it pisses me off.

nowitzki 10-07-2005 03:42 PM

Does anyone have the song Raise The Knife? I really want to hear it.

Lord Abortion 10-07-2005 04:14 PM

i like them, especially Biaxident. but i dont really like the 'Jam' songs in LTE2. they bore me.

the2stranger 10-08-2005 06:44 AM

LTE II is an amazing cd, the first one seems a bit too random and jammed to me.
but thean again, thwey just came together, had a jam, and LTE was the result.
I wish I could jam like that :p

I've only heard Acid Rain, but I was amazed by it.

bassmancrv 10-08-2005 09:13 AM

images and words was my first DT cd, but i soon bought as many as i could get my hands on.. any one heard "hollow years" live version on the live at budokan album.. unbelievable guitar solo.. really touching, you can just feel the emotion petrucci puts in it.. its amazing, you dont find to many bands now a days that can effectivly manage to put emotion into their songs, its one thing to be able to play a song.. its another to actually be able to PLAY it... if you catch my drift

elbassio 10-08-2005 09:25 AM

I like the way the bassist out of Liquid Tension Experiment plays the Chapman stick aswell as the bass.Actually, does he even play the bass? Obviously I don't know them that well, but I think they're pretty dam' good.

the bassist for LTE is Tony Levin, and he is awesome indeed, he plays Chapman stick, but mainly Bassguitar.

but this dosn't mean John Myung of DT isn't on par with Tont.
Myung plays Chapman Stick too.

and I want to play it too, but I have been old it's difficult like hell, but I play Keyboard, so I might have an advantage

Actually in LTE I'm pretty sure Levin plays Champan Stick nearly all the time. He is truely amazing on this instrument, for more proof check out some King Crimson, like the album Discipline.

The only time I've know Myung to play a Chapman Stick is on New Millenium, which appears to be very simple compared to some of the things Levin plays. While Myung may be just a good a bass player I reckon Levin is miles ahead with the Stick.

I may be wrong here but did Levin invent the Chapman Stick? I guess it was more likely to be someone called Chapman, but I'm sure I read he did somewhere.

red barchetta 10-08-2005 12:05 PM

i believe the chapman stick was invented by Emmet Chapman

the2stranger 10-08-2005 12:09 PM
i believe the chapman stick was invented by Emmet Chapman
yes, you are right.

the site, which I forgot:confused:
has nice clips about the stick

I really want to play it, but it's not easy methinks

scenesfromatheater 10-08-2005 12:38 PM

I think metallica should have got a chapman stick player instead of rob....that would be interesting

YAY!!!! TODAY IS AN OCTAVARIUM NUGGET!!!! 08-08-05. My brother realised not me, I am not that sad

scenesfromatheater 10-08-2005 12:50 PM

OCTAVARIUM DAY....maybe - 08-10-05

the2stranger 10-08-2005 01:07 PM

Octovarium for teh win ( only the track, the rest of the cd,meh)

MAthiAS 10-08-2005 01:15 PM

Yeah lets celebrate the true mark of a band that's out of ideas.

Lord Abortion 10-08-2005 01:17 PM

I celebrate some brilliant ballads and some meh heavier stuff.
Yeah lets celebrate the true mark of a band that's out of ideas.
as much as I love DT, I think you're right.

I propose a toast to many good releases in the past, and that DT end their carriere with dignity

I hope by ending their carrer with dignity you don't mean they should finish now?
They are still an amazing band and Octavarium is one of the best songs they have ever written so I don't think anyone can say they are out of ideas.

Yes, they are. Lets look at 8vm:

1) Root of All Evil - Continuing an epic type thing... yeah, whatever. The songs in this thing are getting progressively worse, and do no justice to the original.

2) The Answer Lies Within - Trying to rewrite Another Day. Failed miserably.

3) These Walls - Pretty good song, crappy lyrics. They've done much better, but I can't really knock too much on this one.

4) I Walk Beside You - U2 suck.

5) Panic Attack - Cool intro, that's all that's good. Boring heavy song, we've all heard it before.

6) Never Enough - Muse are good. But please... write your own music.

7) Sacrificed Sons - Meh.

8) Octavarium - See track 6, but insert Pink Floyd and Megadeth.

My favourite tracks on the album, I dunno why people dislike it, it's the ballads, man.

scenesfromatheater 10-08-2005 01:35 PM

all true apart from...

8) Octavarium - one of the greatest songs DT have written and is awsome

I think another 8vm would ruin the image they held so high for 10+ years

I'm a huge fan, and I would really love to see them keep on touring, but no new stuff, unless it's on par with early stuff

MAthiAS 10-08-2005 01:52 PM

Its really not worth it for them to keep touring... they're so boring live, and they don't even play their good stuff anymore.

I like ballads if they're good. These aren't.

good review. Octavarium is overrated.

I'm sure some people thought that after FII, but they pulled it out the bag, recovered and made arguably the best album of their career. I'm always interested to see what they're going to do next, every album they've ever made is so different you just don't know what to expect.
Its really not worth it for them to keep touring... they're so boring live, and they don't even play their good stuff anymore.
What do you mean they don't play their good stuff?! I don't know where you got that idea, but they play a huge selection of songs from all periods of their carrer every night (although obvoiusly some are played more often than others).
and if you don't enjoy watching them live don't go and see them, because theres still plenty of people who do.

classicrockman 10-08-2005 02:57 PM

I'm I the only one who likes 'Octavarium?'

Aberrationbass 10-08-2005 04:12 PM

i still think its pretty good they still own most bands out there
panic attack is my personal fave the middle riff and solo sections dominate

http://www.stick.com/method/greg_howard2.wmv

These are chapman stick vids.

And as far as DT 'tributing' other bands, theyve been doing it a while now, at least since TOT and whether you call it a tribute or a ripoff, we are not getting true DT. i wait for the time when DT makes its own music again

LTE, OSI will by my music of choice til then

nowitzki 10-08-2005 06:13 PM

Those videos are great, but it does look very difficult to play, and it's hardly the kind of thing you're gonna be able to pick up cheap at your local guitar shop and give it a go. But a very cool instrument nevertheless.

Dragon_Prince 10-09-2005 03:49 AM

8-)

I'm seeing DT tomorrow

who's jealous? ;)

beaNN 10-09-2005 03:53 AM

Me :< Whereabouts?

Dragon_Prince 10-09-2005 03:55 AM

I'm going to see them in Holland ;) Heineken Music Hall, not the biggest palce, but the place is build only for concerts so the sound is superb

Enlighten Me 10-09-2005 05:24 AM

Then you are even luckier, although big shows are also quite an experience.

Triangle 10-09-2005 05:53 AM

I'm going to see them two nights in a row this month. Yay!

Jasarn 10-09-2005 05:56 AM

The Glass Prison riff is... oh god.
