beatles - past masters

vol 1 is aight i guess; the problem is that--and i am aware that this is because it is a collection of singles--it gets very grating. i'm not actually a huge fan of too many of the songs that i hadn't already known from incessant playing during my childhood ('i want to hold your hand' (which rules), 'she loves you', 'love me do', 'from me to you') except for a few--'i want to hold your hand' b-side 'this boy' being one of them (love those harmonies!). 2nd disc (still 1st volume) is honestly full of songs in which it's much too understandable why they didn't make it onto an original album; i.e. they kind of suck. not horrific, but honestly worse than most of their early stuff on the actual albums anyway--which means that anyone who 'hates' early beatles will hate them even more with this. 'long tall sally' is good and i think i might be liking 'yes it is' and 'i call your name' (i posit uneasiness with this opinion only because they both need more listens), but overall the disc is quite lacking. so overall fun stuff for early beatles fans--of which i am in the 'kind of' category. not bad stuff, just not revelatory (and not quite fun enough to make up for that).

YourBiggestFan 05-03-2010 02:42 PM

2cool4skool cb. actually i saw them live once at a festival and was bored to tears. AND i had weed. i think it was only because they were touring behind that stupid acoustic album they put out though. . .

I've been srsly digging Fang Island and Drunkdriver and Ben Frost
