^Why in the hell did you ever forget how good they were?
haha. 123'd. I have almost my entire Pink Floyd discography on almost constant rotation. I do take a break from certain era's though, I'm on a bit of a Dave binge recently.

NP - Poles apart.

That is my favourite Gilmour-era song by a long way, followed by Coming Back To Life probably ... it's just that when Waters left the music kinda moved towards more peaceful themes ... if you know what I mean ...

Waters-era all the way :thumb:

It's hard to say. However, Pink Floyd aren't the most creative band I've heard from their era, and style.
I kinda disagree with this to be honest man; DSOTM for example is a completely unique album ...

6stringed 09-01-2006 10:03 PM

DSOTM, I agree it is a very unique album.

I've always liked High Hopes (the guitar solo is wow..) and Wearing The Inside Out.

Grant 09-02-2006 04:04 PM

High Hopes is the best song of the Gilmour led era, I refuse to accept any other opinion.

I'd say they were one of the most creative for their time but not for Darkside...etc; Piper of the Gates of Dawn was easily their most unique album.

Lunch 09-02-2006 06:46 PM

Well this could get interesting. PATGOD might be more unique because DSOTM has a similar style to WYWH, OBC, and some of their later work (at least more so than Piper's similarities with any other Floyd album), but does that mean Piper is more creative?

Riva 09-02-2006 06:56 PM

Their most unique album was probably Animals, really, because you have the pairing of Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and Saucerful Of Secrets.

You could also pair up More and Obscured By Clouds, Meddle and Atom Heart Mother, and concievably connect Wish You Were Here, Darkside Of The Moon, The Wall and The Final Cut, though perhaps in a bit more twisted fashion.

And it's easy to put A Momentary Lapse of Reason with The Division Bell.

But Animals has that unique kind of "vibe", that dark proto-punk imagery that you hear in a lot of Dogs and Sheep.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 09-02-2006 08:40 PM

I actually think Animals was one of their least creative albums. It sounds like any old Progressive band could have pulled that off. I think they lost a-lot of their uniqueness on Animals. Saucerful Of Secrets doesn't sound at all like Piper; a mere mediocre attempt at replicating a masterpiece. (except for the one Barrett written song)

deejuks2 09-03-2006 03:43 PM

Nothing is better than The Wall on Vinyl.

Strange, I've never looked at the albums in that way but I definitely see those connections now. I sort of unconsciously put Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Final Cut in the same group, even though musically they are quite different. It's just that they oppose(and yet mirror) each other in that The Final Cut was almost soley Roger Waters and MLOR was a complete lack of him.

It's not just the music though. It's the lyrics, and more importantly the concept of the album's rustic sound. Anyone could have made music like that, but did Pink Floyd.....?
Nothing is better than The Wall on Vinyl.
Dark side of the moon on vinyl in the dark while intoxicated.

Seriously, i've listened to some Floyd vinyls; the remastering on the cds completely sucks the quality right out of them. Same goes for most Hendrix and Zeppelin.

Lunch 09-05-2006 10:21 PM

This is so cliche, but Darkside really is an amazing album when your under the influence. I've been rediscovering it lately anyway, it's so incredible.

BludgeonySteve 09-05-2006 10:24 PM

I haven't listened to any Pink Floyd for a month. But it's just because I played the hell out of everything I owned before that. Next time I listen to them, it will be great again.

I haven't been listening to them much latley.. I do that every once in a while, go through a metal phase. Like latley I've been listening to pretty much Children of Bodom, Opeth, Black Dahlia Murder, Norma Jean, Necrophagist.. etc. Plus I've been working and going to school. I've had literally one hour to myself the last 3 days.

Riva 09-10-2006 07:34 PM

Heh, for me a dry spell of Pink Floyd is 70 songs in one week. :p

Maybe one day I'll wake up and say "I hate Pink Floyd". :-/

I did. I fell asleep listening to them and had these wacko nightmares.

Then I listened to them again andl iked them, but I'm not gonna fall asleep listening to em again.
I did. I fell asleep listening to them and had these wacko nightmares.
about what?

i hadn't listened to them for a couple weeks and put it on today... it really relaxed me. possibly because i was listening to shine on you crazy diamond, high hopes, learning to fly, etc. easy listening type stuff.

Lunch 09-10-2006 08:26 PM

My friend told me he would put on some Floyd before falling asleep to have cool dreams, he called the playlist "Pink Dreams". He was usually extremely high before doing so though.

Anglachel 09-10-2006 08:29 PM

I dont remember what the dreams were about, it was like years ago. But it freaked me out so much I remember being afraid to this day.

I went to sleep high once and decided I wasted weed.

6stringed 09-11-2006 09:08 PM

Thank ye kindly.

robo2448 09-12-2006 04:10 PM

I'd also recommend Pulse to the guy looking for a new album. But Meddle, Pulse, then Obscured By Clouds in that order I think.
