you build that?

That's like a mix of his Alembic from the 70s and what he played on his last 10 years (forgot what it was called, but it had the kickass Roman Numerals on it)

Thunder Fingers 01-15-2007 12:11 PM

no, a guy named Listerud makes it, to my specs.

And yes, i have asked it to be a mix of the Buzzard and the Spyder.
I found the coolest site. Its a huge vault of many concerts during the 60s and 70s, mostly from the Fillmore. They have two of the Who at Fillmore East, one from '68 and one from '69. Audio and everything.

Here's the link to Fillmore '69:

pretty cool site

Ephemeral 01-17-2007 03:52 PM

bump

JohnXDoesn't 01-17-2007 03:56 PM

yeah so how about that Who. next leg of the tour starts soon and if they swing back my way i'll give the old men another shot.

in other news check a few posts above for 1200 Who photos and i'll be posting other Who related stuff in the days to come :)

Seafroggys 01-17-2007 04:00 PM

my favorite pic was the one of John's bass collection.

Thunder Fingers 01-20-2007 02:06 AM

Hmm.

Biamping sounds a hell alot of better on CD than DVD..

now Entwistle actually have some bass at Live at royal albert hall, you can weakly hear that anoying "Treble Syntetic fuzz" but the bass overpowers it so it actually sounds good :p On the DVD you mainly hear the fuzz.

BludgeonySteve 01-20-2007 02:34 AM

The bass solo on 5:15 on that

Yep.

Good bass tone too.

thanks for the support, Lunch.....

......and since we are on the subject can someone explain to me what John did with his bass sound in the later years of The Who? i've read he changed his sound or switched from the all wood bass to a more refined/manufactured one and this affected his sound/tone adversely. less thunder and boom and more, well, refinement? i hear it, too. he doesn't seem to be as loud, and even when so not as powerful. he was an excellent musician but is it possible he may have "lost a step" due to his partying or is this simply something he thought was more becoming of a bass player of his skill. i really have no idea?

Seafroggys 01-20-2007 12:46 PM

that is.....by far the best avatar of all time.

I think John was experiementing with sound ideas, personally.

sportsfan4427 01-20-2007 01:33 PM

that avatar is pretty sweet

Lunch 01-20-2007 01:35 PM

Possibly his hearing concerns encouraged a change? I don't really know.

JohnXDoesn't 01-20-2007 01:51 PM

hmm... i didn't know john had hearing concerns. pete, yeah, and i know he made some changes on account. then i figured maybe john made some changes for pete, but i doubt his bass sound would affect pete onstage. i'll have to dig up some info, perhaps...
that avatar is pretty sweet
yeah i like it. and i gave up a great one for it. such is my love of The Who :D

Lunch 01-20-2007 01:55 PM

I remember reading a story once about a joint interview with Pete and John, when Pete was asked about his hearing problems. John didn't even hear the question.

Thunder Fingers 01-20-2007 04:29 PM

sounds like dry john humor not hearing the question..

atleast as i have gotten to learn of his instructional and "A ox's tale" DVD's... or his comments on "Live at the royal albert hall" for that mather.

"i wish i got a couple thousands of pounds each time i introduced this song...

OH! I have! haha!

MY WIFE!"

Seafroggys 01-20-2007 04:33 PM

hahaha that's hilarious! When did he say that?

Thunder Fingers 01-20-2007 04:37 PM

read the description :p

Right before "My wife" on "Live at the Royal albert hall" (his last who concert ever..)

its such a shame he became such big inspiration and mentor to me after his death, i would have loved to see the man live, he died way to young.

ah well, atleast he went out in true rock'n'roll style.

Seafroggys 01-20-2007 04:56 PM

I thought the Live at the Albert Hall was their 2000 concert, not the 2002 concert.

wanderer 01-21-2007 12:41 AM

I thought it was common knowledge that Entwistle had been pretty deaf for long time.
I remember someone talking about how John was on some UK TV "comedy quiz show" (?) long ago and couldn't almost hear any of the quuestions...

Seafroggys 01-21-2007 01:10 AM

Pete was the one that's famous for being deaf, not John.

I've heard of Roger having some hearing problems, but never John having any.

Thunder Fingers 01-21-2007 06:10 AM

huh, thats true, he died in june and the 2002 one was in february.

i dunno where i have gotten that the 2000 one was his last?

oh well, anyway pieces of his last concert is on the LIve at royal albert hall CD, as the 3rd "bonus" disc is from 2002.
Townshend said late bandmate John Entwistle also suffered hearing problems, causing him to play out of time at a Who concert in 2000
Jupp.

Pete is partially deaf and suffers from tinnitus. :chug:

JohnXDoesn't 01-21-2007 07:16 AM

yeah i guess you don't play in a band like The Who and come out with perfect hearing. guess John had the bad hearing as well. and roger must to some extant. small price to pay at the end, i suppose. but i know with pete it caused some pain, so that was unfortunate. and of course the tinnitus. pete has said recently that his hearing problems were somewhat exaggerated, though. even by him. or at least as of late, as he said he was pretty stable now and not deaf or threatening to go deaf.

still it did cause him to give up electric guitar in live performance for awhile and even now he only plays the Eric Clapton Signature Strat onstage, so thats pretty serious if you ask me. sure wish he could pick up that old SG or Les Paul for a go or two....

and.....i wanted to post these for Lunch...from the 1976 Oakland gig with the Dead...grabbed them from pete's site....and the last is a recent shot from a magazine. just funny, really. typical acerbic pete...

Wow, great pictures, thanks for those JXD.

I can't imagine what a conversation between Pete and Jerry would be like.

I have the Dead show from 10/9/1976, the first of the Oakland shows with the Who. Talk about a dream concert for me...
