I found some Indian Summer on kazaa like 3 years ago.

im really into hardcore, especially lately, but i like to avoid the generic stuff and pretty much listen to the big guns, like the bands that really stand out and do something different, some of my fav hardcore bands are like shai hulud, refused, converge etc. if you get my point, what are some more bands like this?

Terror, dillinger escape plan, count me out, righteous jams. Dillinger isnt hardcore but good, Converge isnt either but good :thumb: |
I saw this and had to add my two cents, don't take this as me trying to slam you or anything of the sort. I'm sorry if you have gone over any of this, but here I go...
Hardcore is not Punk influenced music, it is Punk. Negative Approach, DOA, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Bad Brains, The Beastie Boys--all Hardcore. Bands like Terror and Hatebreed are often called 90's Hardcore, or, seeing as how it is part Metal and part Hardcore, Metalcore. Modern Metalcore takes even more from Metal, owing most of their sound to Melodic Death Metal such as At the Gates (Bleeding Through) and various Tech. Death bands (The Dillinger Escape Plan). On to Grind... Grindcore cannot be technical. If you took DOA and refined them--made tight and technical--they'd no longer be a Punk band, would they? Of course not, they'd be playing Thrash Metal. It's the same with Grindcore. A Grindcore band ceases to be Grind when it adds technicality; it becomes Death Metal. As for these newer "Grind" bands such as DEP, what is Grindcore about them? They use a blastbeat on occasion with intense vocals--big deal. That describes Death Metal, Black Metal, Grindcore, and some Hardcore Punk. Grindcore is Rot, (early) Napalm Death, (old) Impetigo, Gut, (ROP era) Carcass, and Regurgitate, not PsyOpus, DEP, The End, Pig Destroyer, and other bands of that sort. |
what about 'mathcore, or 'mathmetal'
eg. dillenger escape plan ect. |
I consider that Metalcore. Like most subgenres, Metalcore has subgenres.
|
you cant say dillenger are the same and/or similar to all/some of the metalcore bands, they incorporate so many genres in to one eg. jazz fusion, techno(sorta)
i mean.......come on!!! |
If all bands of a genre sounded exactly the same, it'd be a pretty boring genre, don't you think?
Crazy, I thought you were younger. I turn 18 in a week. I was going to go into journalism too, but at the last moment I backed out so now I'm just doing my general ed. I've been reconsidering it lately, but I have no idea what publication I'd like to write for. Definitely not Rolling Stone or Spin or any of the big magazines, because frankly they're just the magazine equivalent of MTV. The only mainstream mags I like are Guitar World and Revolver, but it's pretty dumb to go through college and get my major in Journalism and just hope that I get hired by one of two magazines. I'd love to write for a zine, but there's no way in hell you could live off of that.
Actually, I turn 18 on November 3rd--I can't vote! Anyway, Rolling Stone is certainly no the ONLY thing I'd like to do, but I think writing for a big time magazine would be really cool. I'd have no problem starting off writing for AP or Revolver. I'm a senior in a high school though, we have weird cut off dates. I have a month to do my early decision application too. |
I can't find any Indian Summer downloads. Do they have a site?
If you have AIM, you can IM me at Finchevelle73 and I'll send you some. |
Haha, I said he was going to be singing for With Dead Hands Rising.
I found out that they are from Minneapolis!!! I found nothing about Wes singing for them though. |

Awesome man. I went to this abandoned mental asylum today called The Skillman Institute in Princeton with my friends. Out of 30+ buildings, we went in about 8. First we went to the gymnasium, but we couldn't get in. We then went to like the visitors center place, and when we looked in the window, there were typewriters and office files just sitting there. Everyone just up and left. The place was abandoned in 1998. We then saw personnel housing, which was nuts. We saw their beds and stuff. Then we went to like this patient housing kinda place where we saw this old kitchen and then we descended into the bomb shelter. I was scared shitless. Then we go in this scary ass patient ward with these curtains and shit all over the place. Then these thick double doors that went into the basement. I didn't feel like going down there. So we went to the 4 sotry school house and dared my friend to go in alone with the video camera and flashlight and stick his head out the attic window. If he did it, he got $15.00. Well, the attic was unreachable but he stayed in there for about a half hour. We then go to this freaky as hell abandoned house with boarded windows and shit, and then the final place. The main hospital. By now I was shaken. So we cross this creek and go around fornt. Now in the basement, there's supposedly a morgue and crematorium, but did not find them. The first thing we saw when we went in was graffiti saying thinks like, "Help" and "The Gift Of Pestilence." We see some rooms and shit and then get the fuck out of there. It was a fun, but frightening day. I cannot imagine how people go there at night.

my friends and i were going to go to this abandoned mental hospital here back in the spring, but the day before we we're going to go, this 1 kid going got caught by a cop in there. they just took him home, but if we went and he got caught again, he would be screwed. i'm going to go back sometime. i looked at some websites that have pictures and stuff and it looks pretty freaky. supposedly satanic cults do some crazy stuff in there. there was a picture of a dead chicken hung from the ceiling and a dead deer in a hallway with a mask on it. the state shut it down 15 years ago because of how the patients were treated. it has a bunch of underground tunnels linking all the buildings.
|
Same with Skillman. It started as just an epilepsy treatment place, but soon sick and violent people were thrown in there. Patients often killed themselves, other patients and caretakers, and many of the guards supposedly raped the patients. The people in Weird NJ who went there said that they found nurse's gowns with blood on them, EKG machines, wheelchairs, files and other stuff. The guy who went to the morgue said the drawers were open and that there were candles all over the place. Oh yeah, I forgot the freakiest part of the story. When we were behind the hospital, we found a fucking skeleton. At first every spazzs and says it's human, but it was just a deer. It was still scary and it could have been a victim of cult activity, as Satanism rampant in NJ.

Last three posts are like a novel.
Yo Sk8Ska, do you read Weird NJ?
Yeah.

I remember reading about the Jersey Devil like 8 years ago.
|
Oh man, I used to be so into Cyptozoology. I ever wrote a huge article on the Jersey Devil. That was one b'itching monster.
|
Jersey rules. Besides like south jersey and all the poluteted parts.
|
New Jersey has the highest population per square mile of any state. Its amazing how much useless information you come across.
|
We are also home to the richiest county in the world. And it's my county!
Grindcore in its purest form consisted of short, apocalyptic blasts of noise played on standard heavy metal instrumentation (distorted guitar, bass, drums). Although grindcore wasn't just randomly improvised, it certainly didn't follow conventional structure, either; while riffs could sometimes be picked out, pure grindcore never featured verses, choruses, or even melodies. Grindcore vocals sounded torturous, ranging from high-pitched shrieks to low, throat-shredding growls and barks; although the lyrics were usually quite verbose, they were very rarely intelligible. Some bands in this catagory can also be known as Mathcore. Meaning they're more complex in the musical writings.
Grindcore bands: Napalm Death, Dillinger Escape Plan, Death, Carcass, The Locust, The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza
youre forgetting one of the best grindcore bands today...DAUGHTERS!!! their cd is 11 songs, and its just over 11 min...so so goood...also circle takes the square, but they have really long songs, and dual male/female vocals.....so crazy, only three people in the band, but it sounds like 5 or 6 they aren't true grindcore, but they would be melodic grindcore if such a thing ever came to be... |
I'd want to move to NJ for all the ghosts, hauntings, and monster stuff.
|
