I got a question, What are you expecting from a new metallica album? Not what do you want it to be, what do you think it will be like, where will they go from St. Anger?

More rock and roll? more thrashy? Get even worse?
Either
1) Like Load, more country/rock
2) Like St Anger but with solos
3) Something totally different, maybe pop-punk
or
4) A total comeback thrash masterpiece. fetauring the ghost of Cliff.
4) A total comeback thrash masterpiece. fetauring the ghost of Cliff.
lol.

I think it'll be just like st. anger maybe they'll remove annoying drum sounds and add a few solos. Which would be a kickass cd.

Well thanks for narrowing it down and giving me a nice precise (sp?) answer

I think it will just be the same except back to solos coz of all the stick they got.

I really hope they go back to standard tuning, or maybe Eb. I hated the muddy undifined tone they have on St. Anger.

metalhead_matt 07-22-2005 10:44 AM

i hope they go back to there old ways, as much as I love albums like Load and the Black album, i want them to bring out a killer thrash metal album :p

Kill Em' All was a one time thing. Better get over it now.

I love Kill 'Em All I wish they had made more albums like it :upset:

Yeah, apart from the wierd guitar tone (that real buzzy distortion was a bit crappy) there were song really cool thrash songs on there. The Four Horsemen, hit the lights, seek and destroy are all classic tracks.

Ah 1981, i wish i was alive back then :upset:

Jev 07-22-2005 01:02 PM

I was looking through my Kerrang! from 1984/5/6(can't remember exact year) and it had Metallica tickets advertised for £3.

metalhead_matt 07-22-2005 01:08 PM

are metallica gonna do a gig in england? or they not doing that anymore

RustedPieces 07-22-2005 01:10 PM

They're recording a new album right now, so they aren't on tour.

I think all of us in this thread want them to go bak to there glory days in the 80's and erly 90's. But i rly hav no idea wut the next album would be like, becuz wen u look at the past they hav covered so many genres of rock and they always manage to make something totally brand new and different. But I am positive that these guys are gonna last well past 2010 and be long lasting like Marshall Tucker or the Stones

AM tryin to learn Master of Puppets at the moment any ideas to make it easier, and don't say practice

Don't downpick it all. Sure Metallica may downpick it but learning it like that will make your life harder so alternate pick it.

Go through it veerrry slowly, then speed it up

James is one of the masters of the downpick.

Drugstep 07-22-2005 02:30 PM

I could downpick Master Of Puppets right of the bat. I don't find it hard at all.

How about Dyers Eve?

I could but all of a sudden i can't. I think it's due to the fact i'm lazy and i got thicker strings.

Jev 07-22-2005 02:33 PM
How about Dyers Eve?
Not everything James does is downpicked.

Drugstep 07-22-2005 02:38 PM
How about Dyers Eve?
I can downpick the intro, where it's not too fast, and I can sure as hell downpick the verse.

THis sin't on the topic of downpicking, but I can't possibly play the first few bars of the solo. IN Guitar World Kirk had an article showing how to play that, but I haven't seen it. I'd like to see close up video of him playing the opening of the solo, becuase it's blistering.

Yea, the end of One is hell for downpicking along with parts of Dyer's Eve. I've never been able to get it. If you can downpick that fast, imagine how fast one could whack it. :naughty:

Bazarov 07-22-2005 02:41 PM
Not everything James does is downpicked.
Hmm, I've always been told that he downpicks dyers eve.

Yeah make sure you go slow because that spider-chord thingy can mind-**** you. I'd build up a good alternate picking and the work on your down-picking (I know that might sound dumb). Being able to down-pick fast and accuratly can come in handy.

DisposableHeroes 07-22-2005 02:45 PM

I think its humanly impossible to downpick that bit near the end of One, its alternately picked

Bazarov 07-22-2005 02:46 PM

I guess yeah those are pretty fast to down pick. It's just always what I've been told by other guitarists and Metallica fans.

\m/Pete\m/ 07-22-2005 02:51 PM

The only songs I down-pick on is the beginning of Damage Inc., Orion (rhythm parts), Master of Puppets, Creeping Death (a LOT!) and For Whom the Bell Tolls.

There may be more, but those are the ones I play the most
