No, the amount of more money you would theoretically make with a Master's or PHD would be the incentive. GRE is basically the SAT, but for getting into Graduate schools. It's not actually that much more advanced than the SAT, but the grading system is beyond hellacious. You start out with a simple question (or, to be more accurate, what the people who designed the test consider "simple). If you get it correct, you are asked a more difficult one...if you get it wrong, you are asked a simpler one. The computer centers in on your score based on the difficulty of questions asked, becoming more precise with each question. What this means is that if you just happen to get any of the first 5 or 6 questions wrong, your score is completely shot, regardless of how you do on the rest of the test.
In other words, it blows.
Mm, I've taken several tests like that...Compass reading tests are like that, STAR tests are like that..Granted, I've gotten the highest possible score on the STAR test since 7th grade, but who cares, it works the same way as the GRE. |
I took the SAT today for the second time. I blew it on the math, because there were a lot of geometry-related sections, my weak point in math. I chewed up and spit out the algebra questions, though, and I think I did pretty well on the verbal/reading and writing sections.
Also, I did amazingly well on the PSAT, but not as well on the SAT. I just think it's a question of endurance rather than knowledge, seeing as how five hours is quite taxing when you're doing such repetative and boring excercises. |
I should have taken the SAT today.. but I'm really not ready at all.
The math section destroyed me on the PSAT, I scored 94% higher than everyone else on the critical reading section, and 96% higher on the other English section(which I can't remember), but I totally bombed the math section because of the huge amounts of Geometry(long story short: My teacher sucked and quit half-way through and my school never got a replacement, I passed because of the 20-point or so curve on the EOC), so I ended up with like a 1720 I think. Meh. |
I'm supposed to take the ACT next Saturday. They were supposed to send me my little ticket thingy, but so far, I ain't got it.

It's allright though, I'm not planning on going into the armed forces anyways, heh. I wish I was from the midwest. The ACT sounds a lot easier. :lol: |
You crazy Americans with your crazy examinations, why can't have something simpler like GCSEs so I can understand how it works.
...so were the listening parties real, or not?
|
F()ol Lp.
F()ol Lp.
It seems kinda wierd that despite the huge number of tool fans on mx spread all around the world in almost every english-speaking country, no one has yet posted saying that they went to one. |
Well, it's almost time for the LA listening party to start, and a lot of people have written in about the first three already. I'll get those emails up soon, but suffice it to say that everyone was pretty thrilled. Toolfan48 writes:
"Hey Kabir - i saw the post yesterday night and i thought ok obviously this is just this years April fools joke, especially when i called the venue and they said nothing was happening. so i cracked up thinking about all these kids lining up outside irving plaza on a saturday morning. but i live about three blocks from there, so i figured i'd roll by to maybe take some pics for tdn of the people who showed up. there weren't that many people there at first (like 10am), but there was a security guard there, which was our first hint that something was up. i figured they got him just to deal with any angry crowd that showed up, but he said he was there with Tool! by 1030 there were probably like 100 kids who had just rolled by, as they all said, just to make sure. and would you believe it?? the doors opened right after 11, and justin himself comes out!! he was totally shocked that there wasn't a huge crowd -- seems a lot of people 'believed in nothing' -- but was like 'whatever' and then we all went inside!!!" Most of this morning's emails are like this. Did you all really think this was an April Fool's joke? Zavlin (a member of the Opinion forums) noticed that the headline of yesterday's news post acronymizes to "F()OL LP", but I assure you, that is just a crazy coincidence. The real significance of yesterday's headline, however, remains to be discovered. §
I'm pretty sure it was fake, dude. Visit the 10,000 Days subforum over at Toolnavy.com and discuss it there. |
So I was at my local recordstore looking through cds, saw the Tool section and found something very interesting: A in-wrapping Peach cd :\
Are these rare? I've never even seen one before. I might have to pick it up. |
Shouldn't that have been under...Peach?
|
Nope, it was under Tool and said on the wrapper: FEATURING JUSTIN CHANCLER FROM TOOL!
(or I think that's what it said, I didn't get a very good look at it) |
It's probably the new Tool album :P
[04/02/06] - April Fools!
Well, well, well. April Fools' Day has come and gone again. There were in fact no listening parties for the new record in cities across the world. Some fell for it, some scoffed, but it seems overall a good time was had by all trying to figure out just what the heck was going on. A full wrap-up will be posted here shortly. Happy April! § [Posted by Kabir]
Dun dun duuuuh. |

Got a 32 without really trying that hard at all; could have gotten higher too, if I took it again, but there's really no point once you're above 30. Oh, and trust me when I say there's no standardized test that can test your aptitude for nuclear physics. When you see what it's really about....*shudder* |

awsome thanks..* listening to undertow now * its a rocking good album [the 10,000 days track] 'those shoes' |
^Yeah, i noticed that too...kinda strange because that is not one of the tracks listed for 10,000 Days at the Tool site.
|
Man, Jones sounds like a real jackass at some points in the article.
"That's what Tool is. Tool is MY band. I asked Maynard to play with me, so Tool is MY band." :rolleyes: |
Ok, so I read the article again and realized that 'Those Shoes' was more than likely a mistake done by GW. I'm pretty sure they were referring to the song 'those shoes' by The Eagles.

happy post - april fools day
