I only use slsk nowadays. No spyware, you can find practically anything, mainstream or underground, on it. I don't know why people would use Limewire or WinMX instead. Limewire is okay, but I hate how only like 60% of your actual downloads end up finishing up.

NP: Atmosphere - When it Breaks [I'm still not sure if this is an actual Atmosphere song, I need to ask Chris]

Jom 09-10-2005 05:54 PM

I looked up the lyrics, but I never get directed to a lyrics page; instead, I get directed to a message board similar to MX :-\

I don't download music from WinMX, I don't need to explain further than that do I?

Haha, I think he was kidding :)

Just re-read the post, and think of the possible tones of voice he's using. It sounds like it's something a fake-angry person would wail, instead of talking down on you. Read the post aloud using the different tones. Isn't the fake-angry tone a lot more funnier? Yes.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I think Ollie's kidding, since he's talked like that to me on MSN before, and we have similar humour (omg international spelling, wtf?).

NP: Cradle of Filth - "Mannequin"

Lord Abortion 09-10-2005 06:23 PM

I was indeed kidding, I didn't know you'd "take it the wrong way"

also, awesome song, Jom

Heh, whatever man. I've been feeling pretty dense all day.

Does anyone here have any indie recommenations? All I've really heard are Pixies, The Decemberists, and Death From Above 1979, and I love it. I feel intimidated to start a recommendation thread in A&I :-\

Sonic Youth
Misson of Burma
Flaming Lips (probably not "true" indie, but whatever)

Kurtz 09-10-2005 06:28 PM

Thanks Ray.

Would Dinosaur Jr. count?

Illmatic 09-10-2005 06:30 PM

No problem.

and Dinosaur Jr. is definitely an indie band. You might also want to check out Husker Du and the Meat Puppets

Hey, Ollie, I wanted to ask if I could use your usertitle in a movie. I was thinking about it walking back from the pub this evening, and it gave me this funny idea for a fake movie trailer.

It's the name of a track from Cradle of filth's next album but...go ahead sir!

Modest Mouse, Kashmir, The Arcade Fire, Cursive (kinda), Death Cab for Cutie/The Postal Service, Minus the Bear, Pedro the Lion
It's the name of a track from Cradle of filth's next album but...go ahead sir!
Oh... Well, I'm going to use it anyway. Since it's technically a parody and will probably have absolutely nothing to do with the Cradle of Filth song, I doubt there will be a problem.

Eh, I like those bands, but they're pretty hit or miss, love or hate. Either way he ought to check them out.

TAF is good stuff though, indeed. Best band on my list is probably Kashmir though.

Jom 09-10-2005 06:45 PM

A brief sampler for you, Kurtz:

Death Cab For Cutie - The New Year
s53.yousendit.com/d.php?id=2D7CKBYI46XW03O6MHRVW9O004

The Postal Service - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight
s53.yousendit.com/d.php?id=36QI91UXNB0GSJSKK4KS7X1WS

Doves - Catch the Sun
s53.yousendit.com/d.php?id=QOE40337SO0K2Q8982ZZMC8WS

I'd give you some Modest Mouse, but I only have TMAA and GNFPWLBN, which is pretty much their most accessible stuff, which I'll assume you've heard, heh.

NP: Crash Test Dummies - Afternoons and Coffeespoons

Kurtz 09-10-2005 06:45 PM

Okay, thanks to anyone who recommended. I've heard of most of those bands, just never heard them, with the exceptions of Husker Du and Joy Division. And I think I remember Kashmir from when Vince uploaded a few song a long while back in the old community thread.

NP The Rolling Stones - Street Fighting Man

Spat Out Plath has the right idea;

http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167945

You get people (including pretty much all the best Alt/Indie users) talking about what music they've been listening to recently, and more often than not, unwarranted commentary from the rest of them! Just learn to ignore and filter the idiots, or things you're not looking for, and it's the perfect system :)

Personal recommendation, since I don't think anyone else mentioned them: Murder by Death. The name may provoke rolled eyes, but they take themselves very seriously, and come off all the better for it.

I'll keep it to just the one for now.

I overuse the little :-/, too.
I'm actually living in the same place (exactly - as in, same room) as I was last year, just with different people. It's not exactly halls anyway though; they're a separate private company, rather than being associated with the university.

Lord Abortion 09-10-2005 06:59 PM

Seriously though, the guy who used to sing for Incubus, is a backing vocalist on two tracks on Eaten back to life by cannibal corpse and NOONE mentioned it?!

So essentially it's like a halls, but run by a private company?

Hey Bartender, while you're here...

Is anyone going to care if I put up a few downloads from 30 seconds to mars' old album in my series thread about them? (By anyone I mean any mods and by care I mean in regards to banning)

munky_magik 09-10-2005 07:11 PM
I think so. Why?
Because I imagine that'll be the problem concerning your P2P programs.

Np: Sneaker Pimps - Six Underground

I think I'm off to bed now, I have a basketball game in the 'morn. This isn't going to go well :upset:

'Night all.

I won't, so long as it isn't anything approaching a full album. I can't imagine Superpeer or 307 being too bothered either (not spurred on to banning, at least), but I can't speak for any of the other mods. Everyone's still confused, I think.
You would think, but I've had trouble getting any to work at home, too. Plus it lets other kinds of transfers (some of them, anyway) happen without hindrance..

Anyway, good night. Good luck with the game.

Lord Abortion 09-10-2005 07:16 PM

I apologise to everyone I excited about this. It's not that incubus, it's another band of the same name. I feel so used :upset:

Certainly not, I was thinking a max of 3 songs, as most of their new album is on pv, but I'd like some of both albums on it. I guess I'll just go for it then and hope being constructive doesn't get me banned :-\

Now I just hope I can get it done this weekend, hmm.

Bartender 09-10-2005 07:18 PM

pv?

Anyway, so soon after the fact I think you could fairly easily avoid any serious consequences by pleading ignorance and confusion.
