My music teacher was one of the best Jazz drummers in Toronto while going to college,he's still only about 25) and watching his 10 min solos does not bore my one bit.
Exactly, from percussion solos, to ensembles we're always overlooked. |
Jazz drumming is some of the best.
|
One problem is people seem to forget a drum solo can be played in the music just as a guitar solo can be. They can be interesting on their own, but just as people are more easily bored by a guitar solo on it's own (sounds redundant but you get the point) People would probably usually be more entertained by a drum solo with the music. It's done, but could be done more often.

Percussion solos on Micky Hart's Rolling Thunder and Rusted Root's When I Woke are amazing.
|
I like the drum solo in In-a-gadda-da-vida.
|
Also Santana Drum solos. You get the whole band playing a different percussion item.
Drums, Congas, Timbales, Maraccas, Claves the fiesta is just there. |

Yea, When I Woke has some badass percussion. |
Ya, I really like santana drum solos, at woodstock was a good one. Or at the end of Aja (Steely Dan, drums by Steve Gadd), in rock me baby by steppenwolf is a cool one to actually.

I'm really digging The End by the Doors again.

Apocalypse Now anybody?? Such a great song for the beginning of that movie. *EDIT* Listened to Abbey Road as I went to bed, another great album. That and Sgt. Peppers are classics. One song I especially forgot about was Octopus's Garden. :) I'd like to be, under the sea. In an Octoppus's Garden in the shade |

Catchy lyrics, and some really nice guitar playing from George that seems to go kind of unnoticed. |

He's good a pretty good voice. Not as good as any of the other 3, but it's great.
|
His songs are just mostly fun sing-a-longs. They're cheesy but really fun to listen to.
|
What episode was that?
Isn't it the one where he bowls a perfect game? Anyway to catch up: drum fills > drum solos my favorite part of "Mountain Jam" is near the beginning, so I rarely ever finish the whole song. EDIT: Holy crap my postcount is all sixes. |
The only song I can think of is With a Little Help From My Friends with Ringo as the vocalist.
One song that I'm REALLY digging from Abbey Road is You Never Give Me Your Money. That little piano bit in the beginning is REALLY catchy.
Isn't it the one where he bowls a perfect game?
Yeeeaaaah!! That's it.
EDIT: Holy crap my postcount is all sixes.
TEH EVIL  |

I'm really diggin' maxwell's silver hammer. It's so upbeat and happy but it's about a guy who goes around killing people with a hammer ;) |
Yeeeaaaah!!
That's it.
Having high school friends (and college friends too...the more things change, the more they stay the same) who loved smoking pot and watching the Simpsons has made me somewhat an authority. It's not Beatles-related, but I've currently been diggin the first two Van Halen albums (stfu, they're very good cheesy pop-rock) and Bob Dylan's early albums (Freewheelin', The Times They Are A-Changin', Bringing It All Back Home). |

The first Van Halen was okay also. I haven't heard the 2nd one. |
I'm digging Neil Young - Sugar Mountain.
Such a nice song. |
Wow did I ever go on a little classic rock frenzy in HMV today.
Purchased: The Beatles-Rubber Soul -Let it Be Chilliwack-Greatest Hits Supertramp-Crime of the Century Jethro Tull-Aqualung |
I've been listening to Workingman's Dead lately (I'm trying to cover "Cumberland Blues"). And I realized that this is one of the few perfect (IMO) albums I have ever heard. Which would hold a position that Dr. John's Gris-gris and Calexico's Convict Pool also hold.
Do any of you have albums that you think are perfect (as in every song is fantastic and definitely 5/5)? |

And who can refuse early Dylan. That's when he was first bringing folk to the world, before he expanded to more genres. I love Abbey Road, the string of songs on the second side is music at it's best. I think Dark Side of the Moon and A Rush of Blood to the Head are perfect. I could probably think of some more, but there's usually one or two songs that aren't exactly 5/5. Possibly Abbey Road. |

Whoa, whoa, whoa
A Rush Of Blood To the Head...perfect? Let's not say things we can't take back. |

I've never heard the whole thing. But I know they had some really solid songs on that album. And yeah, I think A Rush of Blood to the Head is perfect. I could almost say Blood on the Tracks is perfect, although there are a couple songs that aren't exactly 5/5. Very close to perfect though. |
although there are a couple songs that aren't exactly 5/5
Yeah, most of them are 6/5. |
I tend to prefer Thick As A Brick over Aqualung as my favourite Jethro Tull album, although Aqualung has some truly great tracks I like the progressive influence in Thick As A Brick, that comes close to a perfect album for me. But I like all Tull material from their blues, folk through to prog.

I'm pretty excited, this is my first Tull album, and I really want to get into them. Besides thick as a brick, what albums do you reccommend? (please be specific, don't say all of them though I'm sure they're all good. :p ) |

Aqualung, Stand Up and Benefit.
A lot of drum solos are interesting to listen to. Like Ginger Baker's; I like his polyrhythms.
Bingo. The longest song on my playlist is The Other One by the Dead. |
