Yeah, I really like Oval. They take a bit of a different approach to things than most artists in their genre.
Other diggings: Cecil Taylor - 3 Phasis Anything I can get my hands on from Soul Jazz Records The Chills - Kaleidoscope World (everyone should hear the song Pink Frost)
Glad someone here has realised this. One of the spookiest and coolest songs ever made man. |
Depreciation Guild- In Her Gentle Jaws
This album is fantastic. So many layers. I think it's my 2nd favorite of this year, but I'll have to let it settle for a while first. Oh, yeah, its also available free. http://www.inhergentlejaws.com/ You should really, really check this band out if you're into any of those 4AD bands, or even dig stuff like Swervedriver.
Second this, everyone should get it. The title track is to die for. |
I've been listening to a lot of Richmond Fontaine - Lost Son. Really weird, narrative alt. country/punk rock, like if Uncle Tupelo's No Depression was covered by a post-hardcore band.

I'm listening to Flight of the Behemoth and trying to decide if drone metal is for me...

I recently bought every Lightning Bolt album except Wonderful Rainbow from a dude on ebay. Awesome.
|
well you probably shouldn't be forming opinions on doom based on Sunn
|
I like doom metal, and I like Earth's newer stuff, but I'm not sure if straight-up drone is my cup of tea. I do like the songs that have a lot of weird instrumentation and noise elements, but the songs that are literally just ten minutes of two droning notes makes me feel like I've got a concussion.
I can't wait to play this for my girlfriend. She's gonna hate it. |
Black One and Oracle are good and a lot more interesting than their other ****
