I have no idea what you just said...

People think Metallica sucks because so many people like them, roughly.

In my opinion the only overrated thing about Metallica is Kirk. I mean, he's really talented, but I just get tired of his solos. A bunch of fast licks with no flow that make them connect to the song. |
I think that on some solos but some are really good like Fade To Black.
|
He died at ...AJFA (Although he really did have some semi-decent solos on Self-titled) after that he kinda just got into the wah too much...
|
I wouldn't go as early as AJFA, I'd start at some songs on Black then go on.
|
yeah, the solo on Blackened is really cool
|
Now I'm not one of those "one" is god but that is a good solo.
|
I meant AJFA was the last album he wrote good solos on.
We already had a similar argument here a while ago, and the majority of people jumped on me because I don't really like ...AJFA (I didn't think it had any worthy solos), ultimately I was proven wrong though. :upset: |
O, well it just seemed that way, sorry to jump on you like that.
|
Nah, it's fine, I see how my choice of words was wrong :)
|
But I agree on that wah thing, but even that wah filled mess was better than no solos at all... sobs.
|
I can't really agree with that :p
I mean, at first it was something new for him, but over time, I seriously felt every solo sounded the same, just abuse. I liked the no solo approach on St. Anger, I mean, it would have been cool to have some solos, but not every song needs a solo just to be able to say it's got one. They should be done, but only when it's really needed, maybe changes the song, like how that first solo in Fade To Black shifts the rhythm a bit (Maybe other people don't see this, but I believe that first solo shifts the rhythm, at least helps, by taking the concentration away from James, Kirk allows him to change what he's playing, and it works so well). |
I can see that, going from disto to acoustic.
|

Yeah, I just learned the last solo, gotta work on my speed on one of the fast licks though. |

Thats the understatement of the century. |
I'm learning The Four Horsemen right now.
Go Mustaine, not E minor pentatonic!! |
Learned that last summer, really long.

Yeah, I've thought about learning Holy Wars, just never got around to it. Some of my favorite riffs come from The Four Horsemen.
|
I learned a lot off Peace Sells.

Holy Wars is great to improve alternate picking, as well as overall technique. I love Friedman's lead work, but then again, I love all of his lead work. |
What song originally came on Kill 'Em All that they had on the cassettes that they don't have on the CDs?

notice how after ajfa, they got a new producer and changed styles of rock? i'm not saying that it sucked after bob came into the picture, but the music became less complex and more simplified. it was still rock, but it was a different kind. so, kirk couldn't really write the same type of solos that he wrote while they were playing thrashier, more complex music, because it wouldn't fit. my point is, say that from their next album on they went back to their roots to play thrash again made it complex, who's to say that he wouldn't start writing mind-blowing solos again? just take that into consideration. |
After finishing learning a bunch of Metallica songs on bass, I have finally moved to learning Maiden. Metallica has given me plenty of hours of enjoyment though.

What do you mean? |
What do you mean?
I was referring to the wah wah comment. IMO and maybe a few others Kirk abuses the wah way too much. There's a fine line when to use it and when not to. For me he crossed it. |

I wouldn't go as far to say his solos pre-AJFA were mindblowing. One thing I don't enjoy with Kirk is his lack of flow in his solos. Theres a few that I really like such as Ride the Lightening and One kind of, but I don't find his solos mind blowing. Just opinion though. |
I think Kirk is really talanted,
and would some one please stab Bob Rock And yea mustaine is very talanted, but who do yall think has Better vocals? dm or jh>? |
