I really like The Magic Numbers but I know a lot of people don't. I would go to them, from what I've seen of their live show, they do pretty good.

I would also go to the Isis one. Especially at only 12 bucks.

Jacaranda 03-07-2006 08:05 AM

I wouldn't miss Isis, Pelican or Pretty Girls Make Graves. But all those bands are good to great, except maybe 2.

ATM 03-07-2006 08:30 AM

Yea, I'm definantly going to the Pelican/Mono show. I love those bands.

pixiesfanyo 03-07-2006 09:11 AM

Skip Pretty Girls Make Graves.

I hear they're pretty bad live.

Am I the only one that loves the look of that acoustic?

What acoustics (if any) do you all own?

Apologies for the guitar talk.
I have a Taylor 410ce, and it's probably just about as much guitar as I can handle before the guitar is better than me.

ATM 03-07-2006 09:23 AM

I own a Washburn. It does me just fine.

But, I just got some nice loot back from taxes so I think I'm gonna get me a new guitar.
Brokeback Mountain. It deserved the hype and was a beautiful movie.

Crash on the other hand, was heavy-handed and clichéd. I would've enjoyed it a lot more if they didn't treat the viewer as an idiot, the film could've been greatly improved with a little subtlety.
Bleh, I didn't like it. The acting was horrible, I find (I usually like Gyllenhal (sp)?, and I don't mind Letcher (sp?), but the parts just wasn't for them. The accents... *shuders*). And, as for cliches on Clash, even if there were, Brokeback still had more.

I was rooting for Capote from the nominated, really. Crash wasn't even second choice, but I'm still happy Brokeback didn't win :p.

And Match Point STILL hasn't arrived here.

Jawaharal 03-07-2006 03:39 PM

Pelican Mono show would be so bitchin'.

YDload 03-07-2006 04:56 PM

Hey Nacho I like your avatar/location story thing. I'm guessing a Hoover flag is your pockets turned inside out to indicate that you have no money, right?

My friends recently drove around 150-200 miles to see Animal Collective, and they said it was a total waste of a trip. They even left early, which is pretty sad because a. Animal Collective t0tally rul3s and b. they were pretty big fans.

ATM 03-07-2006 05:36 PM

Yea, I'd imagine that they would be pretty hit/miss live.

6Stringer 03-07-2006 05:54 PM

Ever have those days when you get old rap songs from your youth stuck in your head? Today, I just randomly started thinking of that old DMX song that goes "stop, drop, shut 'em down, open up shop, oh, no"

I get Jump Around stuck in my head now and then.

DMX was after my time. It's all about Coolio for me :(

I'm thinking about coming out of hiding and writing a sputnik review. I want to criticize Musik Von Harmonia by saying it is wonderful. I don't know if I'll ever have the leisure time for that, though.

Has anyone read Hole in My Life by Jack Gantos? My friend recommended it to me, but we usually don't have anything in common, so I dont' really want to be deceived because he said it was a fantastic.

br3ad_man 03-08-2006 03:36 AM

Slug, The Magic Numbers are good live if you already like them. If you don't, their show probably won't change your mind. Go to Isis and Dalek too, that's a killer lineup.

DMX is so badass. "Y'all gonna make me looose mah mind!"

I saw Walk The Line last night a Reese totally deserved that Oscar.
SUN MAR 19- THE GO! TEAM $12 mainstage 8:30
Absolutely go to that, they're brilliant live. If you're one of those people who just stands there and watches with their arms folded and being all indie, possibly while wearing a beret, then don't bother. But if you like to dance, you'll have a great time. Fun fun fun.

Also check out the Magic Numbers. I'm not a huge fan, but they were nice live. Not amazing, but nice and sweet and smile-inducing.

Beware.
And I missed The Go! Team at the BDO. A guy I know could've let me backstage too. :(

Ali Farka Touré died :(

Iai 03-08-2006 10:38 AM

So I just found out that Greg Dulli, of Afghan Whigs semi-fame, once wrote a song for GG Allin.
