I never saw what was so fascinating about The Stooges.
You like the Grateful Dead, though.

Johnny B. Good 02-16-2005 08:30 PM

What do you guys think of Chicago? I think that they are reallllllllllllllllllllllllllly gooooooooooooood. Terry Kath is seriously one of the best guitarists ever, his solos are awesome and incredibly fast(not sloppy either) and he can improvise better than Hendrix( and that's saying alot, listen to Liberation), Jimi Hendrix once told Chicago's sax player that Terry is a better guitarist than him, which is also saying alot. Their drummer is also really, really good, listen to the drums in the backround during the guitar solos

lunch998 02-16-2005 08:35 PM

I don't listen to them, and haven't heard much of their material. However based on your overly-excited paragraph from nowhere, I might check them out.

Jam2Me 02-16-2005 08:35 PM

My Mom is a big fan of them I've never checked them out.

Sorry, I'm in a weird mood. But you should seriously check them out
songs to look for
25 or 6 to 4
Liberation
Intoduction
Hard to Say I'm Sorry

Terry Kath also is thought of as the best guitarist by Townshend and Clapton.

lunch998 02-16-2005 08:40 PM

Cool, thanks.

Johnny B. Good 02-16-2005 08:41 PM

I forgot check out the stuff when they were named Chicago Transit Authority
early stuff is the best, the later is too poppy

Johnny B. Good 02-16-2005 08:44 PM

oh yeah, you have to listen to the songs all the way through, not ten seconds and done.

Listen2ska 02-16-2005 08:45 PM

i like chicago..but i prefer boston, tesla, 38 special, styx, the outfield, dokken, and lots of others

jpj 02-16-2005 08:48 PM

All I know about Chicago is that 25 or 6 to 4 has a catchy bass line. My dad showed it to me so he good play the solo and show off some more.
How come we never talk about Zappa in here? :upset:
/shruggs

Ulysses 02-16-2005 09:15 PM

Zappa it is then, what is everyone's favourite Zappa album. I like Hot Rats, Freak Out and the Grand Wazoo among many others. He released over 60 records before his death and I haven't heard even a quarter of them, it would be a good investment though as I am a big fan of Jazz-Rock-Fusion generally speaking.
You like the Grateful Dead, though.
Yes, they are a great band :thumb:

By the way, why is it that you must always be against what one says, and consistently negative? I left that Stooges comment, because I would love to see what everyone liked about them, not so I can have a basically irrelevant come back thrown at me.

And I'm sure you'll come back with an agreesive and probably insulting comeback, but whatever. Ease up once in awhile.

I haven't heard much, but my friend John has showed me a bunch of Terry Kath solos. Very impressive. :thumb:

I have a question...

...Who did the original Black Betty???

Badmoon 02-16-2005 10:08 PM

Perhaps Leadbelly?

which solos?

Badmoon 02-16-2005 10:24 PM

I'm not sure at all. He had just showed me the solos, I didn't get to listen to the whole song.

Sorry :(

Might have been Ramjam.

/heard it while watching Blow.
I never saw what was so fascinating about The Stooges.

Now The MC5, there's a good band.
Haha that's great.

I actually heard a Chigaco song come on the radio today, I didn't know who it was and I was quite impressed. I might look more into them...especially after Johnnys post.

I've only heard Ramjam's (one word?) version of Black Betty. Cool song though. And Blow is my favourite movie!

I have only heard one album, but supposably their other albums are almost equally as good :)

MC5 - Kick Out the Jams
MC5 - Ramblin' Rose
MC5 - Rocket Reducer No. 62

<insert snide, derisive comeback here>

Well, you heard what you wanted to hear, so let's move along.

Thing is, I'm as easygoing as they come, but because I happen to be more vocal when I disagree with something, people tend to think I'm some relentlessly angry young black man.

kath is awesome. he actually taught some wah tricks to hendrix. his best solo is in my opinion the song "oh, thank you great spirit". its a tribute song for hendrix after he died and kath sounds alot like hendrix. pity how he died. he was just about to release a solo album which would have undoubtably brought his guitar work to a bigger audience.

he actually released a lot more than that, as in somewhere in the multiple hundreds for rock and somewhere in the less but still multiple hundreds for classical arrangements. he was amazing. apostrophe and hot rats are my favorites. probably some of his most accessible too. many people have a hard time getting into him.
I left that Stooges comment, because I would love to see what everyone liked about them
i like them because of the raw energy they produced. i also like the guitar work and iggy's voice. they just get me really pumped up. mc5 is good as well. favorite song by them is "motor city is burning". but my favorite stooges song is "search and destroy". the music just clicks with me like im sure other bands do with you.

Classic,
dayumn, I should stop listening to Prog rock :upset:

magicbus 02-17-2005 11:30 AM

Ok good, got some discussions. Right now I'm listening to Waka/Jawaka. This cd is very, very cool. Has a real jazzy feel to it, especially the first song, Big Swifty. Its 17 minutes long, lots of trumpets and keyboards, and of course, Frank's awesome guitar playing. He is great a writing songs man. The other main one is track 4, and is 11 minutes long, and that things rules all the way through. The other two songs are shorter, but track 3 starts out as really funky, and then kicks into the pedal steel guitar at close to 1:50, and that gets really cool. Yea this cd rocks.

If it costs you 10 bucks to cancel the offer, then the iPod isn't free.

Get your facts straight ass.

You know what we should do a debate on?

Instead of artists, let's do albums. Maybe.. Tommy vs The Wall or Sgt Peppers vs Dark Side of the Moon.

Idea? Yes? No?
