I've branch out a lot in the last 4 years i liked classic rock from acid rock to early punk (Velvet Underground, Iggy and the Stoogies) to folk (Bob Dylan) and i like most any bands that can be considered classic rock now of days.
I love the Velvet Underground, Iggy and the Stooges, MC5, Patti Smith,
you happen to be one very cool person :D

Badmoon 02-16-2005 04:16 PM
I know. There are clearly exceptions to every rule, of course.
It still nicely fits my theory.
Hmm,
I just read the first page of this thread again,
who do you think are fore-runners for 'modern' classic rock?
The only bad I can see who isn't emo and doesn't suck are Queens Of The Stone Age,
RHCP?

IAJP 02-16-2005 04:20 PM
RHCP?
Well I dunno,
they're more funk orientated than a lot of Classic Rock,
personally I'd say QOTSA

Well Gov't Mule is the obvious choice on this topic but it was already said.

thanks reps++
I've only gotten into them around in the summer because i moved and all my neighbors are mostly all punk ( i mean real punk, not the emo type) so they told me a would be into these bands and i loved it, we started a band that played that type of music, but are guitarist/singer, got a girlfriend and is always hangs out with her and never wants to practice, he's gone emo. we got another guitarist but no one can sing, the best singer in are band is now me, but i play drums i really really can't sing and play. :upset:

Nah. They they just don't suck.

Against Miik! 02-16-2005 05:26 PM

Soundgarden, Guns N Roses, stuff like that i'd say. Although I really don't know what you mean by modern classic rock.

Jam2Me 02-16-2005 05:28 PM

I never got into Zeppelin, I don't think I ever will either.

I started out liking Queen, then instead of Queen I liked mellow stuff which led me to Traveling Wilburys...and then I just went crazy from there.

i like the Hives

Jam2Me 02-16-2005 05:30 PM

I hope someone posts before me so I don't do the horrid double-post...but I was gonna say I think most jam-bands are "modern classic rock" because of their influences. And as you all have said I agree Gov't Mule would take the cake...Black Crowes kinda pops up in my head too.

Woodstock 02-16-2005 05:32 PM

yeah their has been a lot of punk influences on my music it seems. i never liked much of rap, except of some 80's rap like Public Enemy, which are alright.

I was never too keen on The Roots, actually. They strike me as being kinda "meh".

If you've heard of The Stooges album, Metallic KO, I was impressed to find out my Dad was at the concert it was recorded at. It was The Stooges' last live show.

Illmatic 02-16-2005 05:49 PM

Did not know that.

If I had rep left to give I would rep++ for that.

Woodstock 02-16-2005 05:51 PM

He said he got so much Iggy-sweat and beer thrown on him. What an honor.

Beats me. Zappa is an excellent musician, but a little wierd. Steve Vai started his career off with Zappa
