I thought that Confessor band sounded a lot like AIC but they were more metal.

Jason, I think so...

this week
you: Total Plays: 881
me: Total Plays: 257

I don't listen to music all the time, but I don't think I've ever reached anything near 900 listens in a week.

I'm a nerd.

Jason: Hey don't worry. After looking at most peoples weekly charts on here, I an more like the odd one out.

Also, I love MS excel, that's pretty nerdy.

Iron Bars 01-16-2007 05:07 AM

I find this to be a lot more disturbing. Not because of the band but because of the amount of listens.

1 ▲8 Pink Floyd 1,907
2 ▲5 Kent 38
3 ▼1 Memfis 26

Jason seems pretty normal compared to this.

Riva 01-16-2007 05:42 AM

Yeah, there are some odd ones out there. Like the top listener for Metallica.

On topic: I listen a lot of music, but not just on my PC, that's why I never have very high scores.
average is about 30/40 for my number artist of a certain week.

Riva 01-16-2007 06:39 AM

Well, if I'm downstairs gardening or doing work, or I'm out and about, I'll have my mp3 player, and when I'm driving I've obviously got my car's CD player, but other than that, it's always my computer that I play music on.

Haha, there's no way he actually listens to all of that. According to his recent tracks he literally listens to them 24/7 - there are four pages for every single day.

Kage 01-16-2007 05:32 PM

He yearns to be the top Metallica listener so bad that he prolly just runs the music all the time with the volume all the way down and listens to his actual music on a different media player.

 What a loser.

Riva 01-16-2007 06:35 PM

I've always wondered that also, Lee's Friend's Journal.

I can understand the people who like to listen to music whilst they sleep, I've done it once or twice, but who are you proving your awesomeness too by leaving the music playing whilst you leave the house, listen to other music, etc. It's just bizarre. The most useful thing about audioscrobbler to me is that I can track my own listening habits and see what I like, etc, not show off to the rest of the world.
Yeah, there are some odd ones out there. Like the top listener for Metallica.
I'm sure there are people who are like "I need to prove my undying love for Metallica" so they just set their media player on repeat while listening to Metallica for a week straight or something.

EDIT: Late.

And I agree with Jason. I want my last.fm to be accurate for my own sake. If there was an offline version of some tracker like this, I'd definitely use it.

blueyxd 01-16-2007 07:38 PM

or they could just be 32 long second tagged files, I think that is the minimum length for a song to register in last.fm
hmm, this guy has several minutes between each song so .. he's still a loser

Riva 01-16-2007 07:41 PM

I think Stop by Pink Floyd gets noted, and that's 0:30 on the album.

It depends on the length of the song. Dream Theater's A Change of Seasons (24 mintues) will take longer to register than Speak to Me (1:24) by Pink Floyd.

Sleepy 01-16-2007 10:00 PM

I think the max is a little over three and a half minutes.

Might be wrong, though.

GenuineImitation 01-16-2007 10:01 PM
I think the max is a little over three and a half minutes.

I havent seen anything take more than 4 minutes to scrobble, so three and a half is probably very close to the cut off mark.

pate 01-16-2007 10:03 PM

I think it's different for different players.

In iTunes, it takes the first uninterrupted two minutes of a song to scrobble. Half the time songs under two minutes don't get scrobbled.

In winAmp, it takes half of it the song, regardless of length.

Of course, this is from my own observations.

I use iTunes and it scrobbles all my songs that are under 2 minutes. I downloaded this thing off of last.fm that tells you the duration of time required to scrobble a song. Normally longers songs (15 to 20 minutes) take about 3 minutes. Songs about 5 minutes take anywhere from a minute and a half to two minutes.

Not sure what the thing I downloaded is called because I deleted it about a week ago to free up some space.

blueyxd 01-16-2007 10:39 PM

It sends it in at about 50% of the way through the song or 4 minutes, whichever comes first.

Edit: that's in winamp with the plugin they dont seem to have available anymnore

Mazeppa 01-17-2007 11:01 AM
It sends it in at about 50% of the way through the song or 4 minutes, whichever comes first.
Yeah, this was my understanding; and I think the minimum song length is 30 seconds.

the2stranger 01-17-2007 11:26 AM

This sucks if you're a grind fan and have lastfm.
It won't scrobble most of your songs because they're under 30 seconds.

For example, I'm not a huge fan of Pig Destroyer, but yet they're in my overall top 10, because I can listen to so many songs in such a short period of time. If the other half of PD's discography actually counted, it'd be even more disproportionate. On the other side, there's bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, whom I enjoy a lot more and tend to spend a lot more time listening to. However, because I'm not lame enough to listen to just enough for it to scrobble then move on, it says I don't listen to GY!BE as much as I do.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-17-2007 11:52 AM

Yeah, post rock/prog/doom fans get owned by last.fm.

My most favorite songs/artists hardly make it to my top 10 since most of my songs stretch from 10-70 minutes. :p

Kage 01-17-2007 12:47 PM
Yeah, post rock/prog/doom fans get owned by last.fm.

Godspeed gets the boot for me, unfortunately. My second favorite all time band and they're 21 on my last.fm artists. =-\

Actually I listen to them more on headphones/CD player and my vinyl copy of F#A# than on the computer anyway.

Stormrider 01-17-2007 02:46 PM

I listen to music while I sleep all the time. Put three cd's in my stereo for the night, and put it on repeat. Of course, this doesn't go to a weekly chart of my listening habits. I wouldn't let music run just to be the top listening of a band...I'de like to see what my actual listening habits would be like.

EDIT: Oops, this was from last page :-/ I forgot that there was another page after

EDIT2: Yeah, Kage. Iced earth for example is my favorite band, but never do I listen to them on teh computer...or if I do, I put it in my cd player.
