The Industry is Punks
Don't forget about Tech N9ne. And the Urge.
Well ok but I hate Tech N9ne.

SkaRobotArmy 11-29-2007 05:54 PM

lots of tech 9s in east st louis by the sound of it...

Flagjacket 11-29-2007 06:05 PM

Well St Louis was America's most dangerous in 2006 but the Detroit Flint combo have restored their Lakers/Spurs-like dominance.

AndreTheHyena 11-30-2007 08:27 PM

Yeah, you just don't go to East St. Louis. It's ridiculously dangerous. For a while, St. Louis was towards the top of all of those great lists; "Lowest Quality of Living", "Dirtiest", "Most Dangerous". Probably still is.

Flagjacket 11-30-2007 08:41 PM

No I just said Detroit is number one again you illiterate hillbilly

AndreTheHyena 11-30-2007 08:54 PM

I said towards the top, slant-eyes.

Flagjacket 11-30-2007 09:11 PM

I can't believe you get internet all the way in the Ozarks. Do they even have phones?

AndreTheHyena 11-30-2007 09:18 PM

How are you even managing to read the text with your eyes so squinty?

SkaRobotArmy 11-30-2007 10:21 PM

Flagjacket 12-03-2007 07:33 PM

Nik are you drunk.

I saw WIFS live once and it failed to do anything but anger me.

mullets suk 12-05-2007 03:51 PM

any one see the recent rolling stones review of new wave. (i think its from a few months ago) heres an excerpt:
Tom Gabel's emo-hardcore band makes them rock.
major lulz

AndreTheHyena 12-06-2007 12:00 AM

What does that even mean?

mullets suk 12-06-2007 06:00 AM

also, AM! is lined up to play the '08 warped tour, who said that they werent goin to play warped again?

Flagjacket 12-06-2007 02:18 PM

no one

Liebensaft 12-06-2007 02:19 PM

Half-hour Against Me! sets are pretty lame.

obese_breasts 12-06-2007 02:56 PM

tru dat

Gnarmageddon 12-06-2007 07:38 PM

AM! shows are fun, even if their new stuff blows.

Brewing Up With 12-09-2007 06:10 AM

Well I guess Against Me! are past the point of no return for selling out. A lovely upcoming stadium tour with the Foo Fighters for winter/spring 2008! I wouldn't bother going to one of those shows even if I had free tickets.

SkaRobotArmy 12-09-2007 07:45 AM

wait is that a joke or srsly happening?

Flagjacket 12-09-2007 07:46 AM

do people even care about AM! selling out anymore. get over it.

Brewing Up With 12-09-2007 08:27 AM
wait is that a joke or srsly happening?
No joke, it's on their official website. Check the shows section.

$43 tickets. Nice.
do people even care about AM! selling out anymore. get over it.
I was over it until I saw this on their website. Now I've just lost a good amount respect for them.

Flagjacket 12-09-2007 09:02 AM

They played stadiums before this tour.

But honestly how can you lose respect for them because they want to do this? There's a lot of money in it for them, and I'm sure that's very appealing when you can go from getting your tires slashed by fans for signing to an independent label to not having to worry about your financial well being for the rest of your life.

Yeah, but it's the fact that their ideals and motives have changed from what they used to be that makes stuff like this disappointing.

Flagjacket 12-09-2007 10:08 AM

Ok I understand that
Yeah, but it's the fact that their ideals and motives have changed from what they used to be that makes stuff like this disappointing.
Yeah, they can make their own decisions, but it's just hard to listen and see them now knowing how they used to be before they started branching out.

Liebensaft 12-09-2007 08:46 PM

That Foo Fighters thing is seriously lame as hell. I doubt I'll go see them again. It gets worse and worse each time.

AndreTheHyena 12-09-2007 10:41 PM

I still love New Wave. And a friend who saw them on their tour with Sage Frances said they still "got it". I dunno, I really don't care about their success. Good for them. It's been said again and again, but if I could get paid enough to support myself and my family (I supremely doubt they're millionaires) by just doing what I love, I'd jump at the chance.

Teeb 12-10-2007 01:31 AM

It's almost amusing how they are consistently moving farther and farther from their roots. With every step I seem to find myself thinking "at least they're not doing X," only to find out a month later that they are.

Also, no one here has really gone to this degree, but I despise the "well do you want them to flip burgers for the rest of their lives?" mentality that a lot of people seem to have. It's as if the only option that any band has is to sign to a major or barely scrape by while working 2 jobs. That's bullshit. On We're Never Going Home, Tom says something along the lines of "We're in a position where we're actually being offered a million dollars to make a record." That entire DVD seemed to say that although their were plenty of advantages and luxuries to signing to a major, it certainly wasn't something they needed to do.

I'm not going to walk around town waving "new againt me! sucks" signs, no one is forcing me to listen to anything new they put out, and I don't listen to the radio, so I won't hear them on it. The Against Me! that I love no longer exists, and I've accepted that. It does, however, annoy the fuck out of me when people say that the route they're on now was really their only choice.
That Foo Fighters thing is seriously lame as hell. I doubt I'll go see them again. It gets worse and worse each time.
If they play at the Triple Rock in Minneapolis I'll see them again. That would be so unenjoyable to pay almost 50 dollars to see them open for the Foo Fighters in a huge stadium.

Flagjacket 12-10-2007 02:15 PM

But you guys think about if you packed a baseball stadium full of rowdy Against Me! fans if it were even possible.

crowd surf from third base to center field

holy lame jokes batman, thats the first thing flagjacket has ever said that gets some respect.

and i think its lame for i dont like seeing bands in larga arenas. i dont hate that they are playing them i just wouldnt want to be there.

AndreTheHyena 12-10-2007 04:00 PM

Didn't Jawbreaker tour with the Foo Fighters and sign to a major label?

I've read several interviews with AM! where they cited the Replacements as an influence, and the Replacements were a flagship band for the whole "signing to a major, milkin' 'em for all its worth, and still doing whatever the **** you want" practice. If AM! models their major label career after artists like that, or Neil Young or Wilco or any other major label act that still acts like an indie act....I don't know how I planned on ending that sentence. But you know what I mean.

This argument is so stupid. No one's mind is ever going to be changed. **** the sell-outs, and **** the accusers.

mullets suk 12-10-2007 04:29 PM

damn the man, down with the system

asdf 12-10-2007 06:54 PM

I expect nothing from Against Me! Why should I?

Hah, I love how this is one of the first threads I see when I come back into the punk forum(its been a while since I last posted)...They never used to get this much attention here but whatever...and just to be correct here they even covered a Replacements song on a tribute album, they still have played fairly small venues in tampa (except they just played NEXT BIG THING 7 Google it!) whate3ver

lolz. our babies are grown up.

SkaRobotArmy 12-10-2007 09:14 PM

i still like new wave. i even like a few foo's songs. maybe they are big foo's fans, if i got offered to play with the chili peppers or something i'd do it even if it meant i had to play an arena...
no it wasn't their only choice to sign, but it was definately in their best interests as a band and like andrew said, it doesn't matter f'uck all as long as they keep making good music.
