I'm looking for some more bands that have harsher vocals mixed with clean singing. Bands I like that do this: Opeth, In flames, Shadows Fall, Trivium, Soilwork, Dark Tranquility.
Into Eternity and Disillusion immediately came to mind.

Toxik 08-19-2005 01:02 PM

Oh yeah, forgot about Disillusion. I just downloaded a couple Into Eternity songs and I'm really liking what I hear so far. Thanks. :)
I've been wanting to check out some Napalm Death when they switched from grind to straight forward death metal. I heard that Utopia Banished has some elements of grindcore in it, for a kind-of combination album.
No one wants to help me..

:).
Utopia Bannished or Inside The Torn Apart.

They combine the rough edge of the grind years, with some smooth Death Metal grooves.

I hope I helped :D.
And besides the wall, wish you were here, and DSOTM, what do you think is the next best floyd album.
I don't think the wall is so hot of an album. Dark Side of the Moon and Echoes are better.
recommend me some Black Sabbath...i just listened to Crazy Train and i love it
Crazy Train is not a Black Sabbath song...

It is a song from Ozzy's solo career.

Stoic 08-19-2005 04:35 PM
recommend me some Black Sabbath...i just listened to Crazy Train and i love it
Yes, crazy train is Ozzy's. Get Blizzard of Ozz, includes Crazy Train and other good songs as well (especially Suicide Solution, Mr Crowley, I Dont Know)

*blackpearl* 08-19-2005 04:35 PM

Can anyone recommend me any Dream Theatre or Chimaira cd's?

yes Paranoid is Black Sabbath's second album (pretty good release) and like every Sabbath album it has Iommi on it ;)

Juicy_Forlorn 08-19-2005 04:45 PM
Can anyone recommend me any Dream Theatre or Chimaira cd's?
For Dream Theater get either Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory, or Images and Words. Those are my favorites, but their other albums are quite good as well.

Arrakakaka 08-19-2005 04:58 PM

Anyone got a suggestion on what Cathedral album to get? I'm looking into more doom metal, and I've heard about them and a few songs. What album? The Etheral Mirror sounds promissing.

Actually, reccomend me some doom to check out.

KRASH 08-19-2005 05:18 PM
Get Paranoid followed by Black Sabbath, both of which are true metal classics. As has been pointed out though, it sounds like you might be looking for Ozzy Osbourne recommendations. ;)
Yeah i still like Iommi aswell though...sounds great
i was thinkin bout gettin Paranoid....it has Iommi on it don't it?
Yes but that is Black Sabbath. Just get Paranoid by Sabbath and Blizzard of Ozz by Ozzy and then you are set for now.

After that I'd suggest something like Master of Reality by Sabbath and Diary of a Madman by Ozzy.

Deth 08-19-2005 07:35 PM

Anthrax songs:

Just a few of the top of my head.

Some other songs (each from a different album) would be: Pull the Plug, Lack of Comprehension, The Philosopher, 1000 Eyes, Spirit Crusher. Pick an album depending on what song you like most.

ManicMusician 08-20-2005 06:32 AM

This isnt really a rock or metal album but the thread did seem official...
Another brain-teaser for ya - Dan Swano.

Member of Edge of Sanity, Nightingale, Bloodbath, Unicorn [SWE], Pan.Thy.Monium, Godsend, Karaboudjan, Infestdead, Steel [SWE], Subway Mirror, Odyssey [SWE]

And his solo record, Moontower, has some good reviews. Anyone heard it?
Let's try this one again.

Shadows Rise 08-20-2005 08:42 AM

Could someone recommend me some shred with a classical feel? Something relative to Malmsteen and Becker? thanks.

I would get:

Scream Bloody Gore:
This album combines Blast Snare with sheer power vocals, and some of the most intense Death Guitar work you could ever wish to hear. The whole album has a kind of Escape-age feeling, something nasty is lying beneath, and it wants to get out. The bonus and live tracks on the re-master make it even better.

Standouts:
Zombie Ritual: Death Metal is born. And what a violent birth it is.
Land Of No Return: Fantastic bonus outtake track, which completes this album.
Re-gurgitated guts: Don't let the title fool you, this is beautiful.

Leprosy:
This came out after Scream Bloody Gore. It's not as heavy, but the title track among others are some of the finest Lyrical/Musical songwriting ever commited to disc. Watch out for the instrumental interplay between Chuck, Rick, Terry and Bill. It's incredible, and has a post-Megadeth ryhthmic feel to it. Possibly my favourite.

Standouts:
Leprosy: Pioneers of the 7:00 Death metal song, this is the title track, and instant stand out from their second album.
Open Casket: Probbably the most well known from this album. Well, for me anyway.
Choke On It: This is possibly the heaviest off the album. Still, absolutley incredible stuff. Chuck was so young when he created this (and SBG) it's unreal.

Human:
This is comparitavely in the negative in terms of heaviness compared to some other Death. Allthough having said that, this album has some really solidly square compositions on it. Not to mention Together As One, which is a deffinite standout. Chuck introduces Wankery To Death Metal. Death Metal takes on wankery and gets best friends with it.

Standouts:
Together As One: This is similar to Scavenger off the next album. A good all rounder.

The Sound Of Percieverance:
Indeed, this album is the sound of percieverance. Many had written Death off by this point, but songs like Scavenger, and Spirit Crusher, it shows that Death could still pack a punch, and blow your ****ing ears off in the process. This was the original Death swansong. And it contains some Metallica style slower ballads. (BALLADS, DEATH? SCUSE ME?) But seriously, check it out if you like Scavenger. The drums and bass are very prominent throughout the album.

Standouts:
Scavenger Of Human Sorrow: Bass, Guitar, Drum and Vocal solo maybe? Yeah.
Spirit Crusher: Building on the progression of Scavenger, this carves a niché as one of the best Death songs ever. :)

[/Hopes I helps]
