this is the first sun city girls i've heard, it's interesting... don't like the parts & labor album much, MoHa! reminds me of lightning bolt, and raccoo-oo-oon is sweet

Sexypastries 01-18-2010 01:17 AM

parts and labor blows

you know i wonder some times about musicians who strive to make their music unlistenable, and wonder more still of the listeners who pretend to enjoy it.

perhaps this is the wrong forum for that

niobium 01-18-2010 02:26 AM

no, they do quite thoroughly

Thurston Moore in Kill Your Idols Basically said they'd strive to make their music unlistenable.

i mean you have to look at that contextually. i can appreciate certain 'noise' acts more than others because they use that 'unlistenablility' tastefully and well. you'll always have acts that take that too far in one direction but with Sonic Youth, I think they were also doing it a lot more as a statement, I think the punk/no-wave scene at the time wanted to even musically embody their rejection of mainstream culture/music. their use of the extreme volume and atonality dynamics with their loud, fast punk music works so well.

cbmartinez 01-18-2010 02:36 PM

emeralds- what happened is also ridiculously awesome

what

cbmartinez 01-18-2010 05:25 PM

am i way off, that's always what i liked about sonic youth, the punk dynamics mixed with all the crazy noise things they were doing. maybe im off on any historical references to no-wave or the new york scene they were a part of.
