whoa the thought of up stroking MOP is daunting to me haha, Yeah nah my point wasn't 'how do you downpick it' i just find it amazing that even after 30+ years behind a guitar he still downpicks speedy songs, and yeah Battery, Blackened, Hit the lights etc, are impossible to downpick...

Apocalyptic Raids 12-13-2005 10:59 PM

If you think that galloping verse riff in Battery is downpicked then you need your ears checked...

Sph 12-13-2005 11:42 PM

Err, yeah... Battery downpicked?! Where'd some of you get that idea?

PepsiMetal 12-14-2005 12:24 AM

What does galloping mean in this case? Is it the chuggy chuggy part or what?

Jev 12-14-2005 07:24 AM

it's the palm muted open strings that sound like horses galloping.

iluvkirkhammett 12-14-2005 07:33 AM

They palm mute a hell of a lot don't they?

Apocalyptic Raids 12-14-2005 07:37 AM

Yes.

By galloping I mean the triplets on the palm muted e string in the verse riff.

mr black 12-15-2005 07:40 AM

God this site is running slowwwwww, the galloping part for any n00b's out there is the riff situated at 1.07 in the studio version of 'Battery'.

Jev 12-15-2005 10:40 AM

Are gallops triplets? I always thought they were 2 16ths followed by an 8th over and over.

timmySmi 12-15-2005 12:27 PM
They palm mute a hell of a lot don't they?
Oh hell yeah especially On Load & Reload.

Doctor Night 12-15-2005 12:30 PM

Galloping is dominated heavily by Iron Maiden.

Jev 12-15-2005 01:08 PM
Galloping is dominated heavily by Iron Maiden.
Is there any maiden songs without galloping? :smash:

PepsiMetal 12-15-2005 01:49 PM
Galloping is dominated heavily by Iron Maiden.
What isn't dominated by Maiden? :p

MRDuCran 12-15-2005 03:11 PM
Are gallops triplets? I always thought they were 2 16ths followed by an 8th over and over.
You're correct. I know someone who calls them triplets because they're grouped in 3's but refuses to accept he's wrong. Triplets are of course 3 notes played evenly.
I sometime's call them triples or just gallop.

heavy metal kid 12-15-2005 10:12 PM

Well back then it was the truth, Ozzy only had Randy Rhoads, while Metallica had...well Metallica.

Magero666 12-15-2005 10:24 PM

wait, ...that was the master of puppets tour. i thought randy died in 1982?

heavy metal kid 12-15-2005 10:26 PM
wait, ...that was the master of puppets tour. i thought randy died in 1982?
Yes it was, but i was talking overall, imo the only good thing in Ozzy's solo work it was Randy Rhoads.

I know it doesn't look like i was talking overall, but i think this clears my comment.

iluvkirkhammett 12-16-2005 03:43 AM

Dont albums come out in Europe before North America ?

Aw3someman 12-16-2005 07:15 AM

No. We get Metallica albums b4 everyone else. Yeah!

iluvkirkhammett 12-16-2005 07:20 AM

American artists always release albums in america first, same Australian artists release their albums in Australia first, Europeans in Europe... etc.

Jev 12-16-2005 07:29 AM
Dont albums come out in Europe before North America ?
Not normally.

ThrashMaster27 12-16-2005 07:33 AM

It depends on the record label, not the band. All Nuclear Blast artists CD's get released in Europe first.

iluvkirkhammett 12-16-2005 07:35 AM

I'm putting money away for it now, it'll come out around the same time as I have to renew my MetClub membership.

Does anyone remember who to make the check out to? I forget!

Lars Ulrich?

Aw3someman 12-16-2005 08:06 AM

haha. Just get it from Metallica.com They'll deliver it on the release date. Of course you have to pay more... so i think i'll head down to good ol' walmart

Quickdrop 12-16-2005 08:47 AM

Im not even really antipating their next album. I was mega excited for the release of St. Anger, and all i did was laugh when i listened to it. The same bar chords over and over again...

Although the reintroduction of solos does give it some hope...

iluvkirkhammett 12-16-2005 08:51 AM

If you listen to St. Anger in it's entirety, it's actually really good, and if you think that Metallica was almost no more before this album, it's good.

I have a new appreciation for it after seeing SKOM.
