You don't get to be a band that big without some smarts behind you...
 Those guys are incredibly smart businessmen. And Cliff was big into reading, he introduced them all to a lot of what they based some songs on, I'm sure, so they may not have been as well read if it wasn't for him. Besides, they grew up, they're middle aged men now, all with an education. :smash: |
Cliff introduced them to a lot of things and always kept open minded. Without him i don't think they would've been half the band they are.
|
It's off the Brave New World cd, for any fans. am i crazy or does the intro sound like cliff's bass solo in orion?!?!?!
I dunno, some Motherhead songs the intro sounds exactly like Anesthesia. |
In Cliff's last interview before he died he had said that Metallica would be experimenting with softer sounds. So it annoys me when people say stuff like "they went whimpy after Cliff died" or "they wouldnt be like this if Cliff was still around". Cliff was the one introducing all the new sounds
As a matter of fact if Cliff wasn't playing his bass or playing gigs he was normally listening to his favourite genre of music, Classical... Bach was one of many people he really admired. Also to be truthfull after 23 years of playing daily I would change my sound also! firstly of all I would be board ****less if I heard thrash every day and night for 23 years!!! |
i actually looked up the meaning of orion and why they called it that, its because Metallica thought the interlude was kind of spacey and "mystical" so they named it after the star constallation. The call of Ktulu is actually a book written by H.G. Wells that Cliff introduced to the band and he wanted to write song about it. There is also a quote from the book in the thing that should not be: Not death which eternal lie/Stranger aeons death my die.
HP Lovecraft surely? |

You should post more often, me thinks. |
i can buy one metallica (my mom dont like them , but said i could buy one) which one should i get
|
I just drop in occassionally nowadays. Decided I needed more from life than constantly posting on MX. I haven't even been posting about which CDs I've bought or gigs I've been too (or more significantly the ones I can't go to - **** university choices in the middle of Scotland :p)
I do intend to do an FA (or two) one day though. |

Most people will say Master of Puppets. I personally would try and guide you towards S&M - live album and (almost) best off. Gives the full impression of Metallica at their best. i.e. on stage. If you can only have one - I'd suggest that (provided the stores don't jack up the price on account of it being essentially a double album) |
it depends, if you into thrash metal get "kill em all"
if your into grunge get "st anger" (it sounds very grungy to me) but if i were in your situation i'd get "master of puppets" |

I say Ride The Lightning, but that's just me, most people think Master..
They're both great, but I think Ride's better. |

Yeah Rob owns Jason.
What bass solo (Rob) are your refering to? Jungle Essence? |
Wen Robert was auditioning for their new bassist Kirk even sed that he hadn't seen it been played since Cliff. I really hope Robert shows a bass solo in the next album (crossed fingers!!)

Trujillo is Metallica's most talented bassist to date |
Yeah Rob owns Jason.
Trujillo is Metallica's most talented bassist to date
I don't know, if Cliff had been around more, I think they'd be about even. Rob is faster though, he doesn't use a pick. You can't really say Rob is their most talented, because he has bee non one album, and most of that he didn't write. The next album and tour will be fair game for this opinion though. |
Trujillo is Metallica's most talented bassist to date
Most talented and wierdest. I still think they should have taken Claypool when they had the chance. I mean sure his style is different but he wouldn't be writing the songs either. Has anyone heard the Primus MOP cover? Would have given them a kick ass bottom end too. |
Rob didn't even record on St Anger, don't give him props for it.
Trujillo is fast, this is true, indubitably faster than me, although when Kirk was amazed that someone could play Battery and Whiplash fingerstyle, he shouldn't be... Loads of people can, myself included. Rob is more talented than Jason. That is a fact. Jason was not crap though. Having been playing for over 20 years probably gives him the upper hand over Cliff too... :smash: |
